- William the Conqueror's victory at the Battle of Hastings marked the start of Norman rule in England. The Norman kings, including William Rufus and Henry I faced numerous challenges in maintaining control over England and Normandy. The era was marked by the brutal Harrying of the North, the establishment of the Exchequer system, and King John's turbulent reign, which led to the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215.

Keep this documentary coming. This one is amazing
I love the narrator! He made this doc very entertaining to watch in my opinion
The tapestry is one of the finest thing I have ever seen. The presentation at bayeux is a must if ever you are in Normandy. Superb.
Another good one guys.......
I miss historical documentaries like this.
Amazing doc! Watching it right now, keep them coming. ❤
I loved these docs back when I think they were on the early days of the History Channel…… did anyone spot the mistake @ 26.26 ? Should be Henry II not Henry III 😊 H3 was the son of King John (grandson of H2)
very nice one...finally document that tells me more waht was between William Conqueror and Plantagenets! PLease kekep going🙂
The narrator is FANTASTIC
I love shows that look like they were made in the 70's. Especially documentaries made in England.
Correction. .
This is from the early 2000s not from the 70s.
@dstnurquhart it has that'70s feel. It wasn't filmed in 4k UHD. It looks and feels like a show we'd see in the 70s, before there was an internet crawling with trolls and teachers.
Such a well done doc. Will most likely watch again.
Hay what about the noble normanns that founded kingdoms in Sicily and Apulia
I blame the Normans for all the trouble that beset the British Isles after 1066 and all that. It was the Normans that invaded Wales and Ireland not the English and these Islands has suffered the legacy of the Normans ever since.
The Saxons had invaded Britain and driven the Britons to Wales, Cornwall and Strathclyde before this. The Gaels had also invaded Scotland and assimilated the Picts. The Saxons had previously carried out atrocities such as the St Brice's Day massacre under King Aethelred which was a murder of Danes. The Vikings had themselves previously invaded Northumbria, Ireland, the western Isles of Scotland, the Isle of Man, and attempted unsuccessfully to invade Wales. The Normans were brutal but every people that has ever occupied these islands has been brutal to some degree. Also the Saxons invaded Wales on a number of occasions including Harold Godwinson himself invading Wales in a campaign which resulted in the Welsh giving up their own prince, Gruffydd, who was executed by the Saxons. The idea that only the Normans oppressed the Welsh and Irish is nonsense - we Welsh to this day call the English "Saeson" (Saxons) and never used the term "Normaniaid" (Norman).
@@roberthudson3386 Yes we all know that, but it was the Normans that conquered Wales and Ireland not the Saxons, The Welsh, Scots and Irish just like to simplify history and the English are a convenient target. Saxon England was the first to be conquered and brutally suppressed by the Normans but some people choose to ignore that part of history. There was no English (Anglo Saxon) King after 1066.
Excellent. Thanks
Very interesting
Crowned in 1154 was Henry II not III.
I noticed that myself.
THIS!
His son would have been Henry III, but he isn't counted in the list of Kings of England even though he was crowned and anointed
True Paramahansa Yogananda Ji was William Conqueror in his previous life.
Had not our Lord Christ Jesus told Peter to put his sword away, for all those who take up the sword would perish by the sword?
Had he himself not refused to be thrust into the political struggles of his day, even though he knew full well the painful destruction that the Romans would eventually bring upon the Jewish nation, even stating that he and his followers were no part of this world?
Why then did our powerful Norman and Saxon ancestors shed torrents of blood in their quests for power and riches?
Could it be that the weeds Christ Jesus foretold had appeared, and the wolves the Apostle Paul foretold had indeed arisen? Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43, Acts 20:17, 29,30,
Matthew 26:52 John 6:14,15, John 17:16, Luke 19:41-44
Does anyone know how to find the rest of this series????
I saw it on Amazon prime
It’s all over TH-cam
What about Lindifarm.
Lindersfarm was in the 800s not 1066
I'm pretty certain it's Lindisfarne
Interesting documentary on my ancestors
Norman was a bad bad dude.
" I'll wrap this chain around your head man"-
William Rufus
@@sepperD3 Rufus was a bad bad dude
🔥🔥
Damn...they could've made friends if the damn Normans would've just had patience. Should've looked to see what the Saxons were doing.
Ave Maria
I love these documentaries and the channel. But honestly this is the worst portrayal of Eleanor of Aquitane I've ever witnessed. All of the early profiling is based on the most dispoved and outrageous lies that have been told about her, and that were mostly written or told by men. Gladly medieval women's history is now being researched again and rewritten. She was one of the most powerful figures of the XII century.
Reeeeee
It's an old documentary. Get a grip
@@MrSammer1972 yes and now historians know better. It is important to note that there’s more to her history in case anyone wants to know more about her.
You're really overestimating her bro😅
Ignore the incels. These men usually get too intimidated by powerful women.
When you don’t like history, rewrite history!
How are "Anglo-Saxons" not foreign but "English" ? I thought they were Anglo Saxons.
Weren't they the English by the 1100's? They'd invaded England hundreds of years ago by this time, hadn't they?
IMHO you are both right... Angles & Saxons had been there for centuries and had assimilated. They were "English" in the same way Normans were "French." I can see why Normans were thought of as more foreign than Anglo-Saxons; English wasn't really spoken by nobles & kings again until Henry IV. But even then that goes to show that they assimilated too. And then the Welsh Tudors, the Scottish Stuarts, the... Hanoverian Hanoverians, and the German Saxe-Coburg-Gothes also became English, though much faster.
Can you imagine what would have happened to the Jewish people if Islam was the religion of England?
Wait a few years.
Islam and judaism actually have historically been quite close to one another. Look at spain during the Islamic time.
They'd have prospered, much like they did under Muslim rule literally everywhere.
@@suwaidajalal Yep, I know kinda like those Jewish babies that were beheaded surely prospered.
Probably wouldn't have been worse than what happened to them under Christianity lmao
I make better content 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Prove it.
Sure you do troll
Really, because your comments are dogshit.
Yeah man Spingebill's 4D Pickle Quest is so intellectually stimulating 😂 All my bitches love it when I talk about all 300 ways to die in TF2, and they all hate it when I talk about lame shit like the foundation of common law and the schemes of Henry II 🙄
