Premier and Guru were just the absolute perfect duo. Two very distinctive styles, recognized by many as some of the best in their crafts, that compliment each other PERFECTLY. Guru with the jazzy, constantly changing flow, and Premo with the absolute top of the ladder boom-bap that leaves Guru the space to speak and play around with his flows, while being so fucking good by itself that you could listen to his beats on repeat to the end of time without getting tired.
The fact that this vid only has 41k views is disrespect of the highest order. What world are we living in?...4 years later 2.1m views. Still not good enough.
His skills are high on par with MF DOOM as my favourite lyricists in my opinion. There recognition wasn't mainstream and evolving around dallar they knew the game wasn't about all that shit. Huge respect to Guru

Check out Homeboy Sandman - The Carpenter (just check out all of Homeboy Sandmans music).Blueprint - Persevere. MURS - Everythung. Eligh - Love Ov My Life. The Grouch - Breath. Lupe Fiasco's whole album Drogas Wave and Tetsuo Youth. (Also Food and Liquor and The Cool). Blu and Exile - Below The Heavens album. Fashawn - Boy Meets World album. KAAN - Concealed The Outro. Jon Connor - Someone Like Me. (His mistake Season 2 is good). Mr. Lif - Let The Rhythm Just. Mr. Lif - Return of The B Boy. Evidence ft. Fashawn - Same Folks. Evidence - You prod. DJ Premier. Kendrick Lamar - The Heart Pt. 1 and 2. Capital STEEZ - Vibe Ratings. Joey Badass - 1999 mixtape. That's just a few.

Over time this has become one of my favorite gang starr songs. The lines " this beat is sinister, Premo makes you relax. I'm like the minister while I be lacing the wax" says it all. The video is an homage to THX1138 which is a dystopian science fiction movie. George Lucas' first movie. Highly recommended. Gang Starr is still one of the best yet.

"MCing, and DJing from your own mind, ya know?"

Similar to rounds spit by Derringers

It's time to dethrone you clones, and all you knuckleheads
Cause MC's have used up extended warranties
While real MC's and DJ's are a minority
But right about now, I use my authority
Cause I'm like the Wizard and you look lost like Dorothy
The horror be when I return for my real people
Words that split wigs hittin like some double Desert Eagles
Sportin caps pulled low, and baggy slacks
Subtractin all the rappers who lack, over Premier's tracks
Severe facts have brought this rap game to near collapse
So as I have in the past, I whup ass
Droppin lyrics that be hotter than sex and candlewax
And one-dimensional MC's can't handle that
While the world's revolvin, on it's axis
I come with mad love and plus the illest warlike tactics
The wilderness is filled with this; so many people
searching for false lift, I'm here with the skills you've missed
The rejected stone is now the cornerstone
Sort of like the master builder when I make my way home

And you know, and I know, I'm nice like that
Work through worldly problems, I got the healing power
When the mic's within my reach, I'm feelin more power
Stealing at least three minutes of every rap radio hour
It's often easier for one, to give advice
Than it is for a person to run one's own life
That's why I can't be caught up in all the hype

Great battle last night Premo vs RZA You should had played this so that young hip hop heads know whats up.
Completely Agree I'm Glad I'm Not ALONE 💯
They shouldn’t be considered hip-hop heads if they don’t even know this song.
I swear i love Gangstarr and Wu Tang so this track is fire to me cuz of the method man sample "You know my steez " 🎶
I bought some canned tea called Steaz. I kept shouting "You know my STEEZ!" So I had to come here and pay homage. I wish Guru was still alive so I could hear him clown and bash on these modern "rappers".
Peace to the God!!! RIP guru, you blessed a generation with knowledge-wisdom,how many years this video was done, he was teaching us back then beware of the people that want to control us all, tell you when to eat, sleep, walk, run, when to piss etc.be original dont be puppet/follower be your own I Self,Lord,&Master

That’s exactly what it’s a play on. A warning for us. Never except the Mark of the Best. Run THX 1138 your a Man!
Real hip-hop! How I miss it! RIP Guru!🕯️🙏
Gangstarr and THX 1138 mashup who could ask for more. Guru was a father when i didnt have one. Taught me so much from 12 in 92 and beyond. RIP to a major role model for all youth.
Lyrical poet. Tremendous rapper. I had his music when I was younger
creo que esta cancion fue de los primeros temas de rap que escuche y me enamore del rap
'The real... hip hop!'
Does anyone know the instrumental song in the intro or was it just made for this song?
25 years later and still i say PEACE TO MY GODS& EARTHS
“The rejected stone is now the cornerstone!”
THX1138 Oh shit! I knew this song but never saw the video. Paying homage to George Lucas’ classic sci-fi film.
REAL, HIP HOP! Rest In Peace Guru
RIP guru. My opinion he was one of the best lyricist. He doesnt get the recognition he deserved
“the rejected stone is now the cornerstone, sort of like the master builder when I make my way home(Pslams 118). 🤦♂️ .” Fuego 💐
