You know, it's really a shame that Guru didn't and doesn't get the credit that he deserves. We live in a time where we give flowers to those that have passed, but for some odd reason, don't nobody wanna give Guru his flowers. It's all good though. I appreciate the work that he done put in. This is always gon be my jam.
Preach. Guru is one of my favourites. If you listen to him without paying much attention, he sounds nice and has a simple flow, but if you dig his lyrics, he really has some dope lines . also he's as old as my dad, being born in '61. This kinda means he's older than most rappers, by atleast 10 years. you can really hear his experience, even in the way he speaks. Rest In Piece Keith.
There's she is again. I always see your comments in all these videos that I click on which has to be like over 100 by now. I had the privilege of seeing Guru in Seattle at a small venue, and he was great. He came out so late though. He was Loungin'.
Sometimes I can’t believe this this level of music exists without getting the level of notoriety it deserves. Rest in Power to the king of Monotone. Premier’s beats are undisputed. Greatness was achieved. Torch was lit!!
There is still good music now its not usually popular but it never stopped being made you just have to find it. Check out Homeboy Sandman - The Carpenter (just check out all of Homeboy Sandmans music).Blueprint - Persevere. MURS - Everythung. Eligh - Love Ov My Life. The Grouch - Breath. Lupe Fiasco's whole album Drogas Wave and Tetsuo Youth. (Also Food and Liquor and The Cool). Blu and Exile - Below The Heavens album. Fashawn - Boy Meets World album. KAAN - Concealed The Outro. Jon Connor - Someone Like Me. (His mistake Season 2 is good). Mr. Lif - Let The Rhythm Just. Mr. Lif - Return of The B Boy. Evidence ft. Fashawn - Same Folks. Evidence - You prod. DJ Premier. Kendrick Lamar - The Heart Pt. 1 and 2. Capital STEEZ - Vibe Ratings. Joey Badass - 1999 mixtape. That's just a few.
Premier and Guru were just the absolute perfect duo. Two very distinctive styles, recognized by many as some of the best in their crafts, that compliment each other PERFECTLY. Guru with the jazzy, constantly changing flow, and Premo with the absolute top of the ladder boom-bap that leaves Guru the space to speak and play around with his flows, while being so fucking good by itself that you could listen to his beats on repeat to the end of time without getting tired.
There will never be another Gang Starr in this lifetime. R.I.P to Keith "GURU" Elam. He will never be forgotten by the true lovers of real Hip Hop worldwide.
"And if you thought we'd lose our niche in this rap shit you way wrong I stay up, I stay on, shine bright, like neon Your song's, pathetic, synthetic, like Rayon Fat beats, they play on, want dope rhymes, put me on Word is bond, you know my steez" Still some of the dopest lines I have ever heard 💯
The fact that this vid only has 41k views is disrespect of the highest order. What world are we living in?...4 years later 2.1m views. Still not good enough.
Man do I miss the 90s hip hop scene. Never will there be a time like this gene again. Tupac, Biggie, WU tang clan, Geto Boys, Conscious Daughters, Method Man, De La Soul, just to name a few ... but my God this list could go on. I loved being a kid in the 90s. Real hip hop.
Moment of Truth, one of the best albums of all time far as I am concerned. The combo of Guru and DJ Premier is so potent, it always shocked me that they didn’t get the flowers they deserved
That takes me back when that song came out in Fall 1997 when I was in 7th grade. You Know My Steez got me pumped up. Thank God their 5th album Moment Of Truth got that Gold certification!! RIP Guru
2023 DJ Premier beats and Guru flow still is FIRE! Gang Starr truly underrated. Rest in peace to one of the best rappers ever Guru you left us some classics brother!
His skills are high on par with MF DOOM as my favourite lyricists in my opinion. There recognition wasn't mainstream and evolving around dallar they knew the game wasn't about all that shit. Huge respect to Guru
This the first Gang Starr song I ever heard, I think I was 19 back in 2009 and was blown away immediately by Guru flow. The next time I decided to search them and really run through their catalog I was 27. I'm 32 now and I'm sad I missed out on so much of they hype while Guru was still alive.
Seriously one of the wisest MC’s to grace the planet. I’ve learnt a lot from Guru and Premier blesses every track with a beat fitting to the mood. Gang Starr on top! 🔥
It's bittersweet. They were so exceptional and outstanding together. But in the end, they had acrimony and never resolved it before Elam died. It depresses me some. I'm reminded of how lucky I was to be a part of history though. And like you, I'm disgusted with mumble rap
Peace to the God!!! Gangstarr and THX 1138 mashup who could ask for more. Guru was a father when i didnt have one. Taught me so much from 12 in 92 and beyond. RIP to a major role model for all youth.
Over time this has become one of my favorite gang starr songs. The lines " this beat is sinister, Premo makes you relax. I'm like the minister while I be lacing the wax" says it all. The video is an homage to THX1138 which is a dystopian science fiction movie. George Lucas' first movie. Highly recommended. Gang Starr is still one of the best yet.
"On the microphone you know that I'm one of the best yet/Some punks aint paid all o' they debts yet/Tryna be fly riding high on the jet set/With juvenile rhymes making fake arse death threats.."

R.I.P GURU
Absolutely baffled that this doesn’t have a higher view count. This beat is undoubtedly a classic!
Great comment. I thought it was just me who felt that beat has been forgotten about. Even after 20 something years it's absolute flames 🔥. RIP Guru.
Loved this beat from the first second I heard it. Classic
The beat alone is the reason it made it to my main playlist. I just close my eyes while listening to this song. Helps guide me through darkness
Real Hip Hop is always underrated nowadays!
I normally listen to it on my cd. Maybe others on vinyl etc. I believe.
"I'm like the Wizard of Oz and you look like Dorothy"
Guru was indeed the Wizard of rap! RIP man!
Lost like Dorothy that's what he said.
At least get the line right fam...🤦♂️
Guru will always be remembered. It's mostly the voice. His lyrics. Premo did well too. Gangstarr for life!
