I feel you fellow Californian!!! I visited South Africa in 2018, Cape Town reminded me of my native San Francisco ironically, Durban gives me a Miami vibe and Johannesburg like Atlanta.

I will advise the following: 1: Be cautious wherever you go. 2: Don't walk alone at night. 3: Carry Pepper spray or a tazer at all times 4: Don't wear flashy sh!t. 5: Remember that the majority of the population in ALL African countries live in poverty, and there's a good chance your lifestyle surpasses theirs by a massive margin. The minimum wage is +- 1 - 2 USD /hour depending on country, and the general unemployment rate throughout is about 30 - 50%, and average basic cost of living is upwards of 400 USD. Remember that.

It's usually Africans immigrating to the West, not the other way around. My family immigrated to Canada from Nigeria in the year 2000 and we're not planning on moving back. But my parents have business interests in Nigeria and they donate money to help improve Nigeria. Just trying to show that Moving Back to Africa is not the best dream for some people.
