Interview footage from the forthcoming Love Story documentary, Arthur Lee talks about playing with Jimi Hendrix. For more info on the film please go to www.myspace.com/lovestorydocumentary
If you can find the LOVE album "Out Here" from late 1969 check out the tune "Love is More Than Words". Amazing jam and it still sounds futuristic! The whole double album is great! God bless Arthur Lee.
The Curtis Mayfield tune Arthur is referring to is "Gypsy Woman". The guitar technique is sometimes called "waterfall" and is based on "hammer-ons and pull-offs". The reason Arthur says so emphatically that "I wrote the song" is because in later years Rosa Lee Brooks would claim that SHE wrote it. She also claims that Jimi was her true love and showed me unpublished pictures of them in swimsuits at Santa Monica beach in 1964. But I have no doubt that Arthur wrote the song.
I totally disagree on the 'dress attire' thing, Jimi didnt steal a damn thang from Arthor's ass, if anyting Jimi put together a 'collage' of his own some from Little Richard, some from James Brown ,plus his 'own thing' which he had together well before he ever met Arthor and his band, then when Jimi went to england,he REALLY got it together and did 'his thing',I do NOT for one second believe Jimi stole his shit, the other way round, yeah, probably! it easier to say some shit like that 40 some years later about a dead Man. geez Arthor have some class and couth. U werent all that,by the way.
Jimmy didn’t nick from Arthur! He wasn’t famous till he went to England and then dressed like people in London dressed and nicked The Who’s act! Smashing guitar and such!
great . clip !!!!.. and now to be pissy with some details .. JIMi had already recorded by 63, and his year with Little Richard did a lot for his dress sense!!!
@barrtarr Agreed about Hendrix, and like Arthur was mainly a songwriter with a backing band. All 4 co-wrote almost everything with Zep. Page a session guitarist and recording engineer, Plant mainly wrote vocals and vocal melodies after the others had a groove underway and often lead by bonzo. Jones did most of the serious arranging and Page was a master of writing those great riffs. 4 people so talented that together they created a 5th element.
Jimi did kinda take Arthur's style...though I think even Arthur knew that it was kinda silly to complain about it. Style is not meant to be for one person only. Besides we all know Jimi is a great too. Though I have to say I like Arthur Lee way more...he was born in my state, shares a somewhat similar outlook as me, and both of our middle names are Taylor. :) I love Arthur.
If this was uploaded in 2007 - raw offline footage with burned-in timecode from an analogue VTR, shot off the monitor - and the myspace link is anything to go by, the documentary has never been completed. I have no idea what the original masters look like but as far as I can tell from these clips it's pretty rough. Anyone know more?
Pan oRoya The timecode says it was shot at 24 FPS (standard for then). PS: GOD bless Arthur Lee and Love, one of my favorites. Reminds me of the good times in the '60s.

Ms. Brooks was attractive, and both Jimi and Arthur had a thing for her. Jimi won out, for awhile!
There is audio out there of Jimi and Arthur together. You can hear it on TH-cam.
Arthur's funny. "He (Jimi) stole my dress attire. I don't appreciate that shit."
@@keithmccaslyn2527 Lee was jealous of Jimi's style, as well as his incredible guitar playing.

You forgot the part where Plant and Page stole from other artists

This guy is flying. How appropriate that he's sitting at a bar. After how many drinks was this interview done?
God bless Arthur Lee
All you have to do is listen to to the song, and you can tell Jimi wrote it
that's the man! oh yes!
Jimi jacked Lee's style like how ASAP took SGP/Raider Klan style. The major difference is that only one of them are beefing about it like children
Yeah, no. Good posit, though.
Asap rocky crew, the rapper? If so i should check out sgp/raider klan, never heard of them. I like rocky.
@bloderme Thanks for the info. I will have a look at some of it, cheers.
Danny Brown knows his history.
He think Arthur had a few before this interview?
