Discovered your channel yesterday and I am hooked. Bored of just seeing cars powerslidiing round a few corners in a cloud of tyre smoke on an airfield or track. Your in depth reviews are great. This BMW M5 Competition is a stunning car, perfect tool for any occasion.
Thomas had done a wonderful factual M5 review. The Competition pack (to make more money for BMW and annoy those who ordered an M5) seems to just give High Gloss details, extra 25hp, lowered and modified suspension, different wheels. These manufacturers fair milk you for extras! We got more of Brian's recent M2 review repeated "Driving Experience" and "What do I mean by that!" (quite!); but his track scene and his commentary at the end; and his summary, were very good. Nice car. Very expensive. Many thanks.
Thanks for the welcome, Autogefuhl. Yes, Stefan: probably a few choice mods or extras would be cheaper than expensive Comp pack! Or be different and go for 530e. Still does 0-60 in 6.2 sec, and say, if you have a short commute, you use no fuel! And even with every extra fitted you save £37k against an M5 - just a thought!
How do you know the M5 competition is slower around the ring?The M5 did a 7.39, the Alfa did 7.32, but the CP has not been tested so your cheap little Alfa hasn't been proven faster. The Alfa is not a luxury executive saloon you foolish fool and it's worth tens if thousands less because no one one would pay M5 money for it.

Great review, Thomas will be pleased. The long torso, short legs and small hands sounds slightly weird! Guy in front on track was having a lot of fun on final lap. Having had many BMWs I chose a Panamera this time as my daily and love it but may get an M4 competition for a bit of fun.
I have noticed most car reviewers and people in general to be confused at how automatic climate works, you always see them fussing with fan speed etc. Just set it at 70 and forget it.
NYGlockinator13 yes it isn’t even hard to figure out. Their thermostat at their home is the same, if it gets warm you turn down temp, if it gets cool, you turn up the temp. Your climate control is the same.
You were using the heating controls incorrectly. While in auto mode, the fan speed button adjusts the range of fan speeds the computer chooses for you automatically. It’s not truly manual in that mode. If you want to take manual control of the fan speed, take it out of auto, and then the fan speed will be under manual control. A little learning curve but works well. It’s like this in all BMW’s.

Great video!! I think the Competition pack is what an M5 should be in the first place!! But I don't like that black valence panel at the back! From a distance it makes the M5 Competition look like a normal 5-Series with M-Pack! I think that many owners of the real thing will complain about this feature!
From 25:51 to 26:24 shoulder blade and forearm contacts bear witness to some poor quality bolstering-padding on those sport seats. So, imho it's much more than an embedded or stitched M logo as the critic fails to express a more serious problem.
Hello, first congratulations on the reviews. I watch you constantly and look at them in one breath. I have two suggestions to you - first, before each review, to change the language of the car menu in English. In almost every review the menu is in German. My second suggestion - when testing cars on the move, it will be much better if there is one more camera to shoot from the position between the front two seats or Michelle to shoot from the backseat. The central display is currently "invisible" while driving. For the future, if you use a camera that shoots 360 degrees from this position - between the front two seats will be amazing. Thanks! We often change the language, sometimes we forget. Bout that camera angle, we have that when we have a panoramic roof. If u dont have that, the car needs to have seats where u could access the head restraint metal bars with a clamp mount, thats not possible with performance seats
Here in the US, a car like has only one purpose... To shout to everyone: Look at me! You’ll never be able to drive it anywhere near its limit unless you live near the Autobahn. If you like to go on track days, there’s many better and cheaper choices.
the M5 Competition and the "normal" M5 yes, always - sadly, makes no sense for a performance car. For the normal 5 Series you can order the M Package with the best M Sportseat in a fabric/alcantara mix, so I'd go for the M550i and pick that one
Gui llaume The exhaust manifold route, and I think the firing order, mimic that of a flat plane V8, ( for better high rev power) but this is why it sounds poor compared to the E63 .
+Akash S Also, the sound you hear inside is fake and comes from the stereo speakers. There should be a way to modify the sound, but yeah, that's pretty much it.
BMW calls this Competition but in terms of styling the changes are minor. For something wearing a Competition badge I would think there would be more GT3 influences..
Didn’t see the point of this video. You guys already “reviewed” the regular 2018 M5 then why do it again for the same car. The world and you guys should already know there is no difference interiorly or exteriorly between the cars besides the rims, badge, and black kidney grills. Video should have been a side by side comparison in acceleration, exhaust note, and drive of the car. People want to know if the car is worth $7300 more than the “normal” M5
What a stunning car. I guess one has to decide if the extra few thousand is worth it for the Competition Pack, but if you can afford a new M5 then why not just pay a little more if the CP appeals... If you're whining about the M5 and M5 CP surely you know you're too poor to buy one and BMW isn't isn't in your opinion. They are concerned with selling cars, not pleasing keyboard warriors, and those in the market for a luxury express will opt for the M5 over it's rivals more often than not.
+stubones - Actually, how about an Alpina D5 S (Euro spec, not UK spec)...? Assuming you're not going to be driving on a track - who does! I hope the rear lights will change completely on the facelift because they ruin the car for me. The facelift is the last chance for an E39 equivalent M5 because on the next model the spirit of the M5 will most likely be killed by something like a V6 assisted by an electric motor.
The color sure does match the car - it's gray and boring. Great for someone who likes sleepers ofc, but nobody else in their right mind would choose this over E63(S).

A car is, if anything, an appliance. It's meant to be used, touched and so on. Leaning on it or just slightly touching it won't do much to the paint and/or the car.
Thomas Jousse id agree especially if its yours do what you will with it. This is a different sorta of car. Taking car of your things goes a long way when it comes to owning it long term or getting rid of it. You would be very surprised btw what just leaning on a car can do to paint. Matte paint is differnet ya but still hes not very respectful of the car.

You're right and she is wrong. The Alfa isn't in the same class buildwise or performance wise.

Kit Kat perfect combo. I like the m5, but for everyday use, your selection is much more practical

I hope the rear lights will change completely on the facelift because they ruin the car for me. The facelift is the last chance for an E39 equivalent M5 because on the next model the spirit of the M5 will most likely be killed by something like a V6 assisted by an electric motor.

The color sure does match the car - it's gray and boring. Great for someone who likes sleepers ofc, but nobody else in their right mind would choose this over E63(S).

Very informative review but why must you be so touchy with paint and car in general? Smudging and scratching it for no reason. Leaning on it too.... hold yourself up dude come on....-_-
A car is, if anything, an appliance. It's meant to be used, touched and so on. Leaning on it or just slightly touching it won't do much to the paint and/or the car.
Thomas Jousse id agree especially if its yours do what you will with it. This is a different sorta of car. Taking car of your things goes a long way when it comes to owning it long term or getting rid of it. You would be very surprised btw what just leaning on a car can do to paint. Matte paint is differnet ya but still hes not very respectful of the car.
