    Something to consider with fan placement is over the cooking area, close the shower to dry it out and/or vent steam, over the bed for sleeping comfort.

    One tip for maxxfanns deluxers, the fan is never really closed unless you get in there with some window trim seal. It makes a night and day difference in terms of noise and also will keep the condensation out when you leave your van parked out in a misty day.
    Thanks :)

      I appreciate you sharing this. What if you don't want to get any mold in your vehicle and you want a fan running 24/7 how would that work? Have you done this? I can't imagine it would be a good idea to not have a fan run 24/7🤔

    Never felt the need for a roof fan - my solution is to open both doors (I have left-right doors) this arrangement is PERFECT for vanlife because suddenly you have crossflow.

    I'm glad you made that clear. We use our MaxFan Delux for safety reason with our furry family when they stay behind. In-case the power at the park goes out and A/C stops working; our fan kicks on with it's auto Thermostat @ 78 degrees working off 12V. But we also use it when we travel and we're at rest stop to catch some shut-eye and the weather is cool outside yet our Trailer is warm from earlier in the day being towed in the sun on a 75 degree day but over nights are 65 degrees that's where the Fan comes in. We create a breeze in the trailer buy slightly opening a window or two. We live in FLA so you have to be wise on how to use the fan. Or end up with major humidity inside the coach.

    It's not as powerful as I thought it would be, but it works very well. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxGjG43--gYqIoT4Xkur2PqCrtbKwTv2h6 There are three options to circulate air, and best of all a remote control for us lazy people. Installation was a breeze (no pun intended). It actually took longer to open the box then it did putting the side extenders on and sitting it in the window opening. It's a perfect alternative when you want airflow, but not the AC. Just might order another one for a different room. UPDATE: Bought another one like I said. They work great. Why not have two...

    Anyone out there check for roof sag after climbing up and down off the roof using the board pictured in this video (and others) to distribute weight?
    If you weigh more than 100lbs you may want a to span the roof with a platform.
    A couple of 2x4’s running on top along the roof rack channels with 2x4’s spanning the gap with plywood on top worked great.
    This was recommended on another site. I implemented it on my SECOND vent hole after cutting the front hole on my 170 Sprinter this week. I noticing a definite low spot where I’d been positioned.
    The good news is it only dipped 1/2” over 4’. Some quality time with a car jack restored the roof crown to make sure water isn’t puddling up there at the vent.

    At the moment I only have one roof van in the cab area of my bus. Summer of 2020 (June) we had 90+ degree week of course on my vacation week and I was able to trace the major heat problem from the cab area which I expected. I am hoping to really test out the fan in summer of 2021 to see how much heat it will draw out from the cab. I am hoping, once I determine solar setup, I can put a second maxxair fan at the very back of the bus.

    Thanks for tips.
    I’ll try the Dicor method you mentioned.
    Was wondering if masking tape could be used to keep it from flowing too far and making a mess? Either stuck flat to roof or building a box or “dam” around the fan by creasing the tape lengthwise to stem the flow until the Dicor firms up?
    Have you tried the thicker consistency Dicor formula?
    As you said, it’s the roof. As long as it doesn’t leak and doesn’t come off I’ll be happy!
    Did you scuff/dull the paint under the adapter only or under the Dicor also?
    Installed the adapters this week. So much easier than building up the perimeter with tape or sealant!
    Dicor this weekend.
    Thanks again for the tips.

    Recently on a Van Forum, a Van owner paid an alleged experienced fan installer to position them at the Front and Rear roof. The nightmare occurred the installer without consulting the owner Repositioned the fans both toward the center which did not allow the owner room for the pre bought 3-solar panels. The reason being there are Seams on the roof. My question is that an important consideration for installation?? To say the least, owner was NOT happy. BTW, GREAT Vid advice. 👍🚙

      Could fan be installed under the solar panel? It would have to be a flat one and the panel might have to be lifted a bit. It would be protected from the rain, but airflow might be somewhat restricted.

    Firstly, thanks for all your amazing videos! I will have windows in both front and back of my 159XL Promaster. My bed will be in the rear with a convertible bed up front. I was planning on installing my max air fan in the middle over the kitchen area thinking it would pull from front and back but maybe my thinking is wrong? You mentioned you probably would not install it in the middle. Wondered why? I do want solar eventually. Thanks for any input!

    • @seven_o_savage
      @seven_o_savage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have windows in front and back that is the exception! You’ll be good with a center located fan. Just note you’ll have to put solar panels on either side of the fan rather than one large panel.

    You clearly appreciate the conflict that exists between roof fans and space for PV panels. But of course, every van you might convert already comes with a fan as part of the van's own HVAC system. Clearly you don't want the ignition on all the time to use this fan but it would be a simple matter to fit 2 rectifiers so you can power the fan without back-feeding the rest of the ignition circuit. Is a roof fan going to offer significantly more air changes to justify the second (roof) fan ?

    • @pavel9652
      @pavel9652 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are there any fans that can be installed under solar panel? It would have to be flat and panel might have to be lifted. On the other hand it will be protected from the rain. Another location are the rear doors which is often where bed is located.

    Hi, I would love a Maxxfan on my Ford Connect but wouldn't want to lose the ability to fit under height barriers. I've been thinking about the possibility of fitting it vertically on the rear door. With your experience of Maxxfans do you think this might work. Water leakage is my main concern. Can't see how this would be any worse than speeding down the freeway in heavy rain ???

    • @beachbum200009
      @beachbum200009 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hint… Wherever you put a fan in, you need some kind of frame. Don’t expect screws through thin metal of your vehicle to hold the fan securely. I made a wood picture frame and put it on the inside then screw through the roof and into the wood. Use sealer all over and between layers. Clean all metal dust off or it will rust on your vehicle.

    Great video. I have a 2002 Dodge B1500 Ram Van. Just regular length. The rear of the van is all bed. My question is, do I want to mount a maxx fan above the bed or further up front? I have 4 windows where you pull the bottom lever and the window pushes out. I also value the real estate on the roof. I was going to get Renogy's 400 watt system for my van with a 200 mamp litium iron phosphate battery. I know its overkill but you never know. Enjoy all your videos. Great job! Thank you.

    If you have enough length in your vehicle, install a bathroom in the rear and mount the rear fan NOT on the roof, but on the back door. Put your cooking area near the front of the vehicle and the second fan just above it
    Then, when you make a *smelly*, you can eject that out the rear, you have a Vent fan for when you cook just above your stove AND, since your bed will be in the middle, catching the cross breeze while you sleep. Furthermore, you'll have more roof space than those that put two fans on the roof

    I want to share my review of the Fantastic Vent 3350 because my experience with the fan is anything but fantastic. I bought mine 18 months ago, as friends, who have an older model, said it was very good.
    However mine makes a lot of noise and pushes so little air that I can barely tell if I have it set to exhaust or blow. If I turn it up to get more airflow it becomes even noiser!
    The rain sensor closes the vent at night so I can only assume that it senses the night time moisture and closes even though it is NOT raining.
    My friend's older model seems to push more air than my newer model.
    I get much better & quieter airflow from my little Sirocco fan and it was only $!60 not over $600.
    Dometic agreed to replace the fan and the airflow improved a little but it is still very noisy AND the rain sensor closes the fan at really odd times like late afternoon. So we can't use the fan unless we manually open the cover.
    So in summary, I have found it an appallingly poor performing fan that is just not worth the money.
