I love how free & "messy" you are with your artwork--how you have such fun with it. For a long time I was really anal about getting things "right". I've gradually learned to let go of that and you've helped me tremendously. Thanks again! :-)
The backgrounds are wonderful! I LOVE the 'mandala' effect, it turned out looking like great flowers, so beautiful !!! Thank you for the inspiration dear Jennibellie!
My doctor told me to destress and try some yoga, told him forget it, i'd rather watch your video's. Loved this background video, all of the pages were fantastic. Thank You
Great backgrounds & inspiration! I especially loved the Mandalas. At first I was thinking that I didn't like how the stamping turned out but you really turned it into a piece of art. It was amazing to watch. I am humbled. Thank you for sharing your talent.
You are very calming to listen to, you got me out of myself and back into wanting to create, so I thank you for that. You would be surprised how many people you are helping.
Loved this! I am quickly (and happily!) learning from you and your videos that some of the best things come from being unplanned, and I don't have to worry so much that I don't have a clear plan in my mind when i sit down to journal - just let the materials take me where they will!! Thank you so much, you really are very inspiring xx
As always you are so inspirational. I've been painting up sheets of newspaper for collage projects and was looking for some ideas for layering on them for added interest. Thanks so much! I'm excited and very much inspired. I loved the 'messy fingers, happy mind' phrase, too.
wow Jenny one of my fav videos to date! When I was making your cereal box books this summer, I was using pieces of corregated cardboard to cover my work area. I discovered the paint on the cardboard was art in itself! I peeled the top layer off the cardboard and used the painted surface for embellishments and even made rolled paper beads to decorate the spines of my books! I really love this video and plan to recon my house tomorrow for cool found object stamps. THANK YOU for your inspiration!
Hi Jenni, I have just found your videos & I am working my way through all of them! I love this new one, some Excellent ideas. My hands will never be clean again! Linda x
it is just so amazing how you are so inventive in your crafting. I love the fact that you recycle so much. I have foam packaging, newpaper, etc. So much because I know I'll figure a use for it. I am inspired by you. Thank you for sharing :)
i so enjoyed this video and would love to see more of them, with the other treasures youve found around the house. that crackle technique was amazing, loved it with the script coming through, iv not see that on yt before. your last page was fabulous, it really come together when you went over it with your white pen and your doodling, it brought it alive. thankyou for a wonderful vid. hugs gina xxxxxx
lol thanks Barb, in truth I often get more excited over packaging than the product inside lol so fun finding the unintended ways of usage =D thanks for watching much love xoxo
Hi Jenni, These pages are just stunning. I can't wait to see all the STUFF you have saved and use in your journal. The styrofoam square was just terrific. I started saving everything I come across but, need a push to try and use them in different processes. Just love to watch you work. You make using left over package material an art in itself. The string was amazing. Barb USA
Wow Jennibellie, how cool is that?? This is one brilliant video! When you added the white outline to the petals in the last one, it all came together in a most amazing way. I adore the gesso resist, and the use of small scraps stuck down. Stamping using rubbish is so brilliant! And your crackle effect is amazing over the printed pages collage. So many cool ideas to try out! The trouble is, I'd never want to put anything over the top of these backgrounds because they look complete in themselves.
lol thanks Shoshi =D I have put things overtop the last one now but not so that it's not visible anymore because I did like it too, thanks for watching much love xoxo
thanks Nicky, glad you liked it =) well that's what a book is for in the first place - to improve, to grow, to develop, none of us ever stop learning - that's part of the fun xoxo
Wow these are all so lovely but my favourite would have to be the fourth and last. it was so pretty how you did those flowers, this could be a lovely and simple art journal page by just adding a nice saying/quote. can't wait to see how you finish off these pages.
aww thanks lol I keep meaning to film diff ones (I like variety if you didn't guess from the beginning lol) but one of those things I keep forgetting to get around to lol thanks for watching x
thanks dear, pleased you liked them, think the mandala was my fav too - it's been the first I've completed out of them anyway, I'll do a flip once the journal is complete =) x
thank you, glad you liked them =) you go work on the ideas already brewing while I work on the video and hopefully we'll meet back again at the right time ;) lol xoxo
Jenny!!!! How did we miss this video???? We are kicking ourselves now!!! This is a great tutorial for backgrounds! The rope for a stamp looks great! Hugs and much love~L&Y
Lovey ideas , I have just started doing a art creations book as I call as I can't draw to save my life , but love using my scraps up to make collages and any images I have off the net or old xmas cards , but have a long way to get any where near as good as you . Hugs Nicky
check those out first and then pick one or two things that appeal most to you out of the bunch. And yes def a gradual accumulation...but I talk about that too in the vids =D hope that helps thanks for watching x
Hi Jennibellie :) great stuff as always, but wow, i can't wait to use the faux crackle technique and the gesso resist, too cool!! you are awesome, thanks so much for all the inspiration!! i will head over to your blog now and read about the ink sprays :D Love & Hugs from NZ xoxox
You're welcome, Jennibellie! I shall probably not be around much for the next few months because we are moving house and there's tons to do... I get email notification of your new vids and they will mount up in my inbox and I'll get to them eventually, but just to let you know I have't (quite) dropped off the edge of the world!! Hugs, Shoshi
A couple interesting backgrounds: the printed insides of security envelopes (such as those your credit card bills come in), and, (yes, really!) onion skins--they're s quite lovely, really, in those beautiful golds and russets and tans. Beautiful!
Fabulous backgrounds Jenniebellie, thanks so much for sharing. I love the mandala one best from this video, mainly because I love the way you decorated it once your paint had dried. The faux woodgrain one was fascinating and definitely one I will try. I uploaded pics of my first junk mail book to Flickr today. I am working on two more and will use some of these backgrounds in them. Can't wait to see more of your use of saved objects in printing/stamping :0) Mo x
I think it was a correction pen or White Out pen which can be found in the school/office stationary section of stores. You can also use a white gel pen but the white out pens show up brighter and thicker. :)
well I'll def be doing more because art journaling is pretty much the bread and butter of my creativity ;) no I don't have a Michaels, I live in England so don't have any of those or Joanns so I pretty much get all my supplies online, I just search around art shops to find the best places to get each kind of supplies, much love x
There are many ways to do this stuff for really cheap. I cut my own stencils out of cardboard, I make my own stamps out of craft foam, and I haven't tried it yet but I think you can make the spray inks with acrylic paints and water. The rest, I agree, it can get pretty expensive.
yep I used to be the same, that's why I didn't do art for quite a while...now I'm freer with it I see it as the actual point of being creative & arty - I hate to be constantly be telling myself how things 'should' be done - it would make me not want to do it all over again so I say YES TO THE MESS! lol thanks for watching xoxo
Aww thanks Gina =D I've *just* this second posted a photo to my facebook page of a makeshift stamp I made with some treasures I found, check it out I looooove how the print turns out. The crackle technique is an oldie, so probably is on here but I think I lot of people fear it going wrong which is why I did in this vid it to give the golden secret - being generous with the glue :) so glad you liked it, much
Your mandala page is wonderful--reminded me of an artichoke! Oh--and if you decide to try the onion skins, just slather them down with lots of gel medium.
I don't know specifically where you can get it (as obviously I live in another country) but some people use Mod Podge or Elmers glue as a substitue, it's not the exact same thing but close enough =)
OMG, my friend and I were just discussing crackle and the best way to get the look yesterday, your in my head girl, thank you so much!! I loved all these backgrounds and now need to go do some playing xx your AWEsome girl, with a capital AWE! lol
Great ideas for backgrounds. I love the found stamps. Your mandala turned out fantastic after you'd doodled on it. I seem to get an idea for a whole page which I start from scratch. I'm not sure if I would know how to continue with a random background. Maybe I should think less. Any advice? Hugs Lynn
hmmmm yes...lots...not even for a comments box though lol I'm becoming a really big advocator for getting rid of all thoughts and ideas for when coming to art journal. I will do a 'go with the flow' kinda organic journal page soon to show you what I mean but for now a tip is I sometimes go to journal when it is the LAST thing I feel like doing and because of that I just HAVE to trust my instincts and let the page form itself - give it a try, see how it goes & let me know? Also did a video...
hmmm tbh I'm not sure, I have many mini misters, a few bottles from a co called craft creations and then these ones which I'm not sure about but they we're cheap, I got like 2 or 3 of these larger ones for the price of one mini mister online so I think I got it from a bargain shop as opposed to a 'proper' craft shop that sell the normal kinda lines (ie ranger = mini misters...etc)
haha yay!! They can join mine lol the amount of hand cream I go through from having to wash them constantly is ridiculous haha thanks for watching much love xoxo
