IMPORTANT CORRECTION: You CAN actually recast an instant that destroyed a creature with Umezawa's ability! Meaning you can target the spell you just cast with the trigger - it WILL be in the yard when the trigger hits the stack. I'm fortunate to have judge friends!
I know this deck struggles against combo decks and decks that aren’t creature heavy. Will adding stuff like Gisa and Tergrid help push it further a bit more?
Okay awesome! That was one way I figured it could compensate a bit, maybe last longer: blatant thievery with Gisa, Tergrid and maybe steal some life with Blood Artist.
I think any permanent that let you kill things would be nice include for the deck, such as his Jitte and Sword of Fire/Ice, or Murderous Betrayal (not the most efficient, but could use in a pinch).
the spell has to resolve in order to trigger Toshiro - in order for the spell to resolve it has to be put in the bin on resolution. By the time Toshiro triggers the spell has resolved, is in the bin, and is now a legal target!

Do you have to pay the instant's casting cost again?
@@jlateralus21 imho yes as the card does not specify the magic words: "without paying its mana cost".

In the 99? Absolutely. Being targeted-removal-based means you're essentially stealing creatures in either instance.

im pretty sure gisa is a nonbo, because its a replacement effect for dying, so nothing dying would trigger toshiro's ability, no?
I have my own infinite combos:
Professor onyx + chain of smog
Sedgemoor Witch + chain of smog + boardwipe (preferably Illness in the Ranks)

You actually can use the same card you used to destroy a creature. I just saw someone do it on an mtgo stream

I feel like ashen powder would be a great card for this deck
Grim return.

is this playable without the big expensive mana gainers? i have no money
oh absolutely! more mana just means more actions, but the deck is great even if you're taking out 2-3 targets a turn.
Time to update my Toshiro deck
The deck list link isn't working.
Taking it back to the old school. Nice
