*Have I ever helped you make a purchasing decision or enlightened you on an awesome new game you enjoy?*
Fan donations greatly help me keep this all going. THANK YOU! www.patreon.com/Boomstickgaming
THANKS TO ALL THE SPECIAL GUESTS THAT HELPED CONTRIBUTE TO THIS!
This has been the longest I’ve spent on any one video since I started TH-cam in 2006.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could put that summon sign down and help by sharing this with a buddy or two that might enjoy it.
SIDE NOTE: I am quite aware of the term “Souls-like” being tossed around too loosely in the industry so I tried to only feature games that are very obviously inspired by Souls, and not include anything that falls under “It’s like Souls cause it’s hard…”
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed this jolly co-operation!

Hi there! In case you see this, I just wanna say thanks for making this video bc it gave some good tips. I've been thinking of a souls-like of my own. It takes place in an island with dinosaurs and other monsters. You play as a raptor trapped in the ruins of a massive civilization that once dominated the land and you must find a way to escape while fighting predators, traps, and other threats. What do you think?

@@BoomstickGaming Thanks! I already found a few cool examples from dinosauroid art, such as knife fighting using backward thrust attacks and launching an alatl-like weapon with its tail. It might be interesting, even fun, to do some experimenting with these ideas

devs need to put more work in their hard modes. God of war turned out to be a great game on the max difficulty. boring otherwise. in general, devs need to follow ninja gaiden and white day models with higher difficulties. tougher enemies, more ai patterns and can add an extra puzzle or 2 that requires some backtracking. one hard mode mechanic I don't exactly agree with is more stress on resources. just makes the hard more tedious over it being more difficult. Overall right now all we get is Soul-like and Asian games for hard mode. If more love were put into these higher challenges, these games might not be a flash in the pan and forgotten about within a week.

It could be done but would be very difficult to make fun. Combat is so much of the core of these games, it would be like taking platforming out of a metroidvania. Kind of like what we see with the game featured in this, Unworthy, a metroidvania with no jump, but still has some "platforming".

I got wrecked really bad.. took me legit 7 hours to complete the first mission "the village of cursed blossoms". I usually just quit the game i can't play. But i really want to try how to be that kind of gamer. So i endured. I'm so bad, i feel sad for myself.
Enemies respawn is suck tbh. Also this game don't have the typical parry like "hit L1 at the right time" parry. Maybe i need to unlock it ?
I suck at the game, but i love this literally my first time playing it. It took me 7 hours to complete the first mission but somehow i beat the last blue horse head boss first try, maybe because i beat the boss while in fire beast mode.

Is the saga of Souls over though? Sure there was a couple good 1 offs like Salt & Sanctuary but ever since From Software officially closed the door on Soulsborne, it feels like there is no home anymore. Nothing to look forward to and its almost like this sacred genre that so many dare not to approach and the few that do fall way short or just offer this limited scope of an experience. I sure as hell hope Soulsborne is not truly over. It's just too good to leave behind for good at least.

That's a cheap and badly designed boss, though. She has moves that you can't see coming which will kill you in one hit. That's not challenging, that's just punishing - there's a difference. A challenge is something you can see coming, which therefore gives you the chance to respond: That's a direct challenge to you, right? That GOW boss will often skip the challenge/or "tell" and just punish you. That's bad game design.
People love the Souls games because they are genuinely challenging, as opposed to merely being punishing. In the Souls games, you are punished only when you fail to respond to the presented challenge correctly. Big difference!
