In a song all about the townspeople celebrating the death of someone they never tried to understand, it's insanely refreshing to see an animatic that does not let you forget that that Elphaba is a person, undeserving of the dehumanization she faced for her entire perceived life.
All of this is utterly breathtaking, but I want to highlight a detail I haven't seen any other comment mention. The first thing we ever see of Elphaba is not her birth like in the play and other animatics, where the focus is on her abnormality and the prejudice in response to it, but her reaching out for her mother and crying. Exactly the same as any other baby. You redirect our attention from the external idea that she's a freak, an outcast, a monster, to the unmistakable reality that she's a person like everyone else. This is the "wicked" the whole song's been condemning and fearing - a tiny hand outstretched, seeking love. The dissonance is fantastic. It's such an impactful introduction to our protagonist.
THE WHOLE ENDING WITH ELPHABA'S MOTHER AND THE CLIFF AND THAT COLD STOP TO THE MUSIC!!!!!!! oh my god i had chills the whole time, this is so so incredible!!!!
2:51 This is my favourite part of the song. After listening to the song and watching the musical over and over again, it hit me that Glinda is speaking about herself, not of Elphaba. I love how you animated it so she realizes how alone she actually is. Perfect.
Not just that. think about the endings of the Wizard and Madame Morrible. "Goodness knows the wicked's lives are lonely." He wanted to be a father, only to find out he'd essentially hired people to kill the very child he wanted and didn't know about--in the musical it's treated as a Despair Event Horizon. "And goodness knows the wicked die alone." Morrible is going to rot in prison alone until she dies.
how STUNNING. The part where Glinda reaches out and the glass shatters into the 'real' Elphaba ugh my HEART. The entire scene with the ending storm and mother especially is so visceral. Your use of timing with the music and the violent lighting/movements made this so darkly cinematic. At the end...that giant wave comes up and in that moment, all reputation or social anxieties fly out the window, the only thing she can do is 'react' and she does by shielding and protecting her child. A mother's love even through the hardships. How beautiful...You captured that instinct so well. 😢Who doesn't remember Wicked as one of their first musical loves, this just brought it all back all over again. Thank you!
Hello! Thank you so much for your compliment, and watching my video! The last part of this animatic was very challenging for me to make! I was so worried that Wicked Musical fans not going to like that climax, because it wasn't on the musical. But I'm glad it worked out!! Thank you for liking my video, and I'll do my best on the next one too!
6:21- I love this moment here. The sheer silence of it, the focus on the bundle about to be consumed by the wave, and the blank look of manic desperation to remove a stain upon one's name and reputation on the face of Elphaba's mother melting away, to be replaced by the softened expression of maternal instinct taking over to protect her child, no matter her flaws real or perceived. EDIT: In general, I really like the concept that, when Elphaba was born, her mother was initially as shocked and disgusted as her husband and their neighbors were, but when faced with the moment of truth, found she truly loved her daughter, warts and all, and couldn't bring herself to get rid of her.
When I searched for "No One Mourns the Wicked" I didn't expect to find a new animatic at all. And everything done in this turned out to be so *BEAUTIFUL.* Every single detail. And the scenes with Elphaba's mother and the baby was just so.... Truly, it just makes me so much more anxious to see how they gonna do the opening scene in the live-action movie 💚

this is the only time i´ve ever seen someone portrays so beautifuly how Glinda was actually mourning her friend. This shows the perspective about both sides on the decision made in Defiying gravity and is utterly precious how you managed to make it about it. All the message was well delivered, i just cried a river while watching how strong this is. I'm so excited for the movie.
This animatic has lived rent free since I saw the original vid, coming back I'm still obsessed with this art direction. Especially with the moms intense faces. Really great stuff! Excited for whatever else you've got!
Truly the most emotional and beautiful animatic of this song. Poor Glinda. You can see it on her face. Every gesture. Makes you wanna hug her. 😢🥺 When Melena runs towards the seaside cliffs, her intentions clear, it's like watching the beginning of _The Hunchback of Notre Dame._ Fortunately, she's not as heartless as Judge Claude Frollo. I remember seeing her, on stage, reach out for her newborn child, regardless of the deformities. So yeah, that fits right in with the story here. I especially love the nod to the 1939 movie. All that's missing is the burning Scarecrow to complete the accident. 😜

This needs to be the wicked movie. not a live action. live action has never been able to capture the drama that comes with musical theater but this did so perfectly. the expressions, the movements, the coloring choices. i didn't realize i had stopped breathing until the end when the weight on my chest released and i took a breath and then cried. this was awe inspiring. incredible!
OH. MY. GOSH. THIS STORYBOARD WAS SO WELL THOUGHT OUT AND AMAZING!!!! ABSOLUTELY STUNNING I THINK MY FAVOURITE PART WAS THE GLINDA REACHING OUT FOR ELPHABA AND GREEN BABY REVEAL WITH THE STATUE AND ALL OF THE ENDING ARGHHH ITS ALL SO PERFECT!!!!!
Hello! Thank you very much for watching my video, and writing wonderful comment! I'm really glad you like all those scenes, and I'm truly grateful! ^^ Hope I could do the same on my next one!
This is one of the most stunning things I’ve ever seen! If there could be an animated movie, I’d want you to help create/storyboard it. Also, wow, that ending! Also also, I’d love to see Kristen Chenoweth (the original Glinda)’s reaction!
Thank you very much!! It would be so wonderful if I could share this with Kristen Chenoweth too!! I'm not sure how I can do it, but hopefully, she could find this video in the future!
Most animatics add or change parts of the story. That final scene with the mother on the cliff is beautiful and chilling. And the way you paused the music at a point to fit the animation better was stellar.
Holy crap, when I got recommended a Wicked animatic I was not expecting this! Absolutely stunning work in every frame! Here are some of my absolute favorite parts: - The opening: It reminds me a lot of the stage productions I saw in the theater, especially the clock on the background. Also the stain glass window was a really great way to quickly set up the Wizard of Oz story. - Glinda's lines after "you know who": With her expressions and mannerisms after that point, it seems like she's instead saying lines like "good will conquer evil" and "outlive a lie" to comfort herself, maybe believing that someday people will somehow know who Elphaba, not the Wicked Witch, truly was. Of course the juxtaposition to the townsfolk celebrating her death was both beautiful and cruel. - Glinda and the stained glass window: The way the world switches to Glinda's own thoughts while thinking back to Elphaba was beautiful. It seems like this whole scene Glinda is talking directly to Elphaba and thinking back to their second to last moment together, maybe believing that everything could have turned out better if she had joined Elphaba. - Elphaba's mom: The expression on the face of Elphaba's mother already seems like she's slightly nervous about getting caught but also maybe rethinking her affair, maybe after seeing the concern her husband has for her. - The moment of Elphaba's birth: We don't see Elphaba herself (as most animatics do) but cut to an intimidating statue of a child (5:11). It immediately makes Elphaba seem like some monstrous, almost evil entity, which is the other characters view her, only to show her true humanity and form at the end of the song when she reaches out to her mother. - The whole sequence with Elphaba's mom after (5:28): It feels completely perfect when the music and ensemble pick up while Elphaba's mother flees into the streets with her child. She is already marginalized by her society, which probably sees her as having birthed a monster and would label her "wicked". And the ashamed, broken expression on her face as she rides out towards the cliff is perfect. - The cliff: This was definitely not something I expected in a Wicked animatic, but the music, expressions, and scene of Elphaba's mother about to throw Elphaba off the cliff was absolutely breathtaking. And when the wave comes up onto the cliff, all of the anger, marginalization, and social pressure in Elphaba's mother goes out the window and she just reacts by shielding and protecting her child. As Maidenofmine put it, a mother's love even through the hardships. You really gave Elphaba's mother so much depth with just a few scenes, making her someone who was cast out and marginalized from society from birthing a "monster" but who still deeply cared about and protected her daughter, no matter what happened to her. - Elphaba baby reveal: As mentioned earlier, we already got the view of everyone else seeing Elphaba as a monster and freak. Just having her reach out to her mother and cry like any baby tells us that she is a person just like anyone else, simply labeled an outcast because of something she can't control. This is probably the best animatic I've seen for this song, so great work! Only bad thing is that it makes me a but nervous about the live action version. Good luck on your job hunt and I sincerely hope it goes well!
I echo so many of the kudos others have already commented, and also add, I love how you reveal in the opening scenes Elphaba is very much still alive. Water "melted" the witch, yet our first glimpse of her is a smiling, happy green babe thriving in the rain. Love it.
Love how this animatic is in anime form. It reminds me of Kingdom Hearts. Especially the scene with the glass-stain windows. I also like how this version is more emotional than the broadway musical itself. I mean, you can literally see and feel the hurt and grief Glinda is experiencing in both facial expressions and in song. Great job. Keep up the good work.
@@JakeKimStory I absolutely did! I’ve been watching dice your Hamilton Storyboards and have always loved your artstyle! Can’t wait to see what you do next! ^^
@@agoblincandraw Oh Thank you very much for watching my Hamilton animatic as well!! ^^ I'm planning to make another WICKED musical animatic soon! Hopefully I can make it faster than this video!
this is absolutely incredible!! seriously, how breathtaking!!! the framing, the expressions, the atmosphere of each scene is 🤌so carefully crafted and the end result is so beautiful!!!
Hello! Thank you very much for your compliment! At this moment, I'm not too sure if I could do entire songs from Musical ^^; but I'll do my best to do more than one!
I love this opening song out of all the opening Broadway songs, because while this song sounds so joyful, we as the audience know that everything about this song is ironic.
Absolutely incredible work, I love how perfect your timing is on every moment of this! Every little detail plays to the music so well; and I especially love the use of the stained glass windows depicting the traditional Wizard of Oz characters, the way the shot focuses specifically on the ones who Wicked fleshed out, and the whole sequence where Glinda is on her own surrounded by them. Absolutely love how intensely you played the birth scene as well; audibly it's already a very strong moment, and everything you did with it visually completely lives up to that. Spectacular work! :D (On a side note, I've always imagined that in a screen adaption the final 'Wicked' repetitions would be where the title screen came up as well, so I really like that you had the same thought there too!)
I'm crying. I've love Wicked since i discovered it, you have done something incredible, just as someone said, you represented the loneliness that Glinda felt and that you can only understand at the end of the play or when you have seen it several times, her mother's perspective... everything. You managed to bring to life what that first song represents, you honestly gave me chills and made me remember the emotion I felt when seeing the play for the first time. I'm from Mexico and I don't know if they will bring it back, but I will make every effort to see it again, hopefully I can fulfill my dream of seeing it on Broadway. Thankyou and congratulations ✨
@@JakeKimStory Ah, Dear Old Shiz then. A pretty solid choice; do you plan on doing them all in order, or do you plan on skipping at some point or another?
I've listened to this song often enough that the actual tragedy of it doesn't hit me quite the same as it used to... so the extended scene with the 1. fully animated characters 2. the insane social pressure/prejudice/etc on full display and *especially* 3. the CLIFF was... harrowing. To put it mildly. Also the Glinda/Elphaba memory and stained glass visuals were phenomenal. Well done.
This was absolutely gorgeous! I love this! Is there more??? Now after falling in love with first the soundtrack then the book and then the play; I would be thrilled to see this animatic for the whole play! ❤❤❤❤🎉
I'm currently hyper-fixating on wicked again and came across this animatic and honestly this is exactly how I interpreted the opening song! While we can't truly decipher what Elphaba's mother felt during the Broadway show in comparison of the book, but I feel like this captures her mother in an entirely different light! One who has to suffer the pressures of a unforgiving society and a husband who is disgusted of his child. I would love to see another Wicked animatic, maybe No Good Deed or even the climax of Defying Gravity! Bravo!!
Excellent storyboarding. Keep it up. I love the expressions on their faces and eyes when they're shocked, depressed and happy. Expressions can tell more words than the story itself. And I like the Easter egg with all the characters on the window. 🧠❤🎖
I already was so surprised on how good your art is with the Hamilton videos you made. I didn't think I could be surprised again, but you just proved me wrong. This video is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THIS WICKED VIDEO YOU MADE! I can't believe how good it is. I really loved the animatic.. It's my first time I heard of this work.. when I saw it.. I felt really emotional.. it's really great work!.. good job you did in the beautiful work 👏🏼
This is so great. I love how it tells a story and elaborates on it with the music instead of just doing that thing where a presenter stands up there and read off the slides but visually. I am definitely showing this to anyone who'll listen to me.
Oh this was _gorgeous._ I've seen quite a number of Wicked animatics throughout the years, but this was piercing the stratosphere! The entire video was a truly phenomenal take on a story we're all familiar with. But from 5:30 until the end, _that_ was where it truly shined. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for anything involving a character torn between choices atop a seaside cliff, but it was GETTING me. I even cried a little--the absolute _silence_ as she was about to throw Elphaba into the water, potentially killing her in a way no one would expect, only to change her mind was just. Wow, wow, wow! This animatic was cinematic. I would happily give money to a kickstarter of a Wicked animated series with this exact style. I gave this a like and subbed. That's how impressed I was! Even if you don't do more Wicked animatics, you earned it, and I hope your channel grows from this. 😍
I am absolutely in love with this animatic. It fully captures the story of the song and I absolutely LOVE the designs, especially of Glinda (it has the motherly vibe and yet it fits well with Kristin's voice). I sincerely hope you do other animatics of Wicked cause my dude, you have nailed it!
Wow, this animatic is so beautiful and emotional indeed! The movement and styles are very impressive. And the ending certainly gave me chills! I give this storyboard music video 20/20! 2:07 You drew Glinda very well, because she looks absolutely gorgeous and adorable!! 💙❤🧡💛🧙🏻♂🔮🧙🏻♀🪄👍🏻✨🌠😍😊
A shame this had to be reuploaded but it’s good that your were looking out for those of your audience that are affected by the flashing. I’m just going to repeat most of what I had said for the original video: This was incredible to watch. I love Wicked so much and this just gave me chills. And also I’m really excited for the movie coming out. I hope you make more of these because this was just stunning.
It was a mistake to watch this at work. I was expecting a fun, creative animatic, not something that would make me have to hold back tears. Utterly amazing. You nailed every beat and didn't waste a single frame. Evocative and expertly done in every way!
WOWWWW THIS IS SO AMAZING!! I'm speechless, such a capitivating narrative of one of the best musicals out there, the way glinda reaches for elphaba kinda gives defying gravity vibes but is too late, and all the mom's backstory with her as a baby gave me chills. So brilliant, beautiful, Loved it so muchhh, you did such a good jobbb!! I'm rewatching no stop!
Please, please, please, do other Wicked animatics before the movie comes out. I'm amazed by your work and would love to see some more of this amazing musical drawn and interpreted in your style
This is the first time I ever actually cried watching an animatic. This was so beautiful, I loved every single detail. My favorite parts was when the glass broke and it revealed the true Elphaba, and Glinda went to reach out to her. Legit though this is absulutly beautiful, one of the best animatics, you did a great job
Most animatics add or change parts of the story. That final scene with the mother on the cliff is beautiful and chilling. And the way you paused the music at a point to fit the animation better was stellar.
I Just shed a tear when the music cut and she was going to throw Elphaba oh my Shiz
Holy crap, when I got recommended a Wicked animatic I was not expecting this! Absolutely stunning work in every frame! Here are some of my absolute favorite parts:
- The opening: It reminds me a lot of the stage productions I saw in the theater, especially the clock on the background.
This deserves to have millions of views
Thank you very much for saying that! ^^
WHAT A MASTERPIECE
Thank you very much!!
THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING!! The animation is BRILLIANT!
Thank you very much!! I'm glad you like this video!! ^^
I love that you added a scene in which Mrs.Thropp attempts to throw her baby off the cliff, yet she can’t bring herself to kill Elphaba. 😢💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤🧹📖
The scene at the cliff literally made me sob how dare you
Ur one of the many underrated artists I aspire to be! Even if this is an animatic and not technically finished, it's still so amazing to me!
Oh thank you very much for your kind words!! I'm glad you liked it!!
It be interesting to see this colored and fully animated. The character designs looks very fitting for the original cast.
this is absolutely incredible!! seriously, how breathtaking!!! the framing, the expressions, the atmosphere of each scene is 🤌so carefully crafted and the end result is so beautiful!!!
this is beautiful!! i want u to do like the whole musical
Hello! Thank you very much for your compliment! At this moment, I'm not too sure if I could do entire songs from Musical ^^; but I'll do my best to do more than one!
I hope you do the entire soundtrack/musical. Wow. This was stunning. Bravo!
You’re amazing at capturing emotion. This made me tear up
I love this!! I would pay big money to see you do Defying Gravity!
OMG THIS IS SOO GOOD! THE ANGLES, THE POSES, THE DYNAMIC ACTIONS AAAH ITS TOO GOOD FOR AN ANIMATIC
Wow, the direction you took this scene in was incredible and emotional! 💚✨
6:08 Bro really just almost had her own Just A Man moment 😭😭
This is INSANELY good omg??? This needs a lot more views! you sir are WICKEDLY talented!
Still absolutely gorgeous and beautiful with each rewatch. ☺️
Thank you very much!!
The final part on the cliff, deserves an Oscar.
(On a side note, I've always imagined that in a screen adaption the final 'Wicked' repetitions would be where the title screen came up as well, so I really like that you had the same thought there too!)
Hello! Thank you so much for your compliments and your kind words! I also do love the Stained Glass scene, and I'm glad you liked it too!!
Your mind and skill are unparallelled! This is so good
Why was this the best wicked animatic I’ve ever seen?! This was so good!
I’m excited for the upcoming movie musical this November, even if it’s only act 1 this year
This was beautiful! Please, do more from the playlist 😆
Thank you very much!! My next animatic is going to be the next song from the Wicked!
@@JakeKimStory can’t wait!
@@JakeKimStory Ah, Dear Old Shiz then. A pretty solid choice; do you plan on doing them all in order, or do you plan on skipping at some point or another?
@@LordCommander-ui2fw Ooo good question, I hope it’s in order. Even if it’s not, I’m sure I’ll enjoy the quality nonetheless 😊
Well done.
Very nice! So many "I see what you did there" moments too. :)
Bravo!!
Omg! This is amazing! This was my favorite song when I saw the musical in person, and my favorite part is at 4:14
Excellent storyboarding.
Keep it up.
I love the expressions on their faces and eyes when they're shocked, depressed and happy.
Expressions can tell more words than the story itself.
And I like the Easter egg with all the characters on the window.
🧠❤🎖
This makes me wish the Wicked movie was animated because, damn, this is amazing! 😍
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! YOU SHOULD DO MORE OF THIS!
Thank you very much!!
This actually made me cry like the last scene is so dramatic and powerful oh my god😭😭 tears are streaming down my face
THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!❤❤❤❤ Gettin me ready for Wicked realizing in November!!
If I was an owner for an animation studio, I would hire you in a second. 💞💖👍👍👍
Hello! Oh thank you so much for your compliment and your kind words! I'm so happy that you enjoyed watching this video, and Hamilton as well! ^^ I'm already thinking about making the next one, and I hope I can show it to you all soon! Thank you very much for watching!
THIS IS TRULY BEAUTIFUL
This animatic has more life and whimsy put in it than the trailers I’ve scene for the movie
4:50 love how smooth it gets here, the timing and expressions are just absolutely exquisite!
I really loved the animatic.. It's my first time I heard of this work.. when I saw it.. I felt really emotional.. it's really great work!.. good job you did in the beautiful work 👏🏼
The last scene at the cliff was so awesome dude I'm subscribed
I can't watch anything related to Wicked without crying, but my goodness, this one really got me. Just gorgeous.
This was incredible. Fantastic job!
Yoooo this is so dope!! You did amazing
This is so great. I love how it tells a story and elaborates on it with the music instead of just doing that thing where a presenter stands up there and read off the slides but visually. I am definitely showing this to anyone who'll listen to me.
this is so amazing
This is a masterpiece. Truly outstanding work.💚
Oh this was _gorgeous._ I've seen quite a number of Wicked animatics throughout the years, but this was piercing the stratosphere!
This is a true masterpiece
Thank you very much for your kind words!
This is actually so beautiful well done ❤
Wow you just stirred up my love for wicked the musical please do no good deed or defying gravity
WOW! I love those songs too! Hopefully I could make animatics with those songs in the future!
The latter half with the extra focus on Elphaba's mom had my jaw going slack. My god. Bravo.
If you ever intend to make another wicked animatic I would not complain
Thank you very much!! I'm planning to make more!
@@JakeKimStory HURRAY!!!
I almost cried watching this, it’s just so beautiful!! Wonderful work, lovely drawings, and I love how everything synced with the music!!
This is the first time I ever actually cried watching an animatic. This was so beautiful, I loved every single detail. My favorite parts was when the glass broke and it revealed the true Elphaba, and Glinda went to reach out to her. Plus the way Elphaba’s mother struggled in the second half of the animatic was so heartbreaking. Great job!
Very beautifully drawn for a beautiful poignant tale
I’m probably gonna watch this multiple times because it genuinely made me emotional and reminded me of why I love Wicked so much ❤
Oh my god this animatic of no one mourns the wicked was absolutely amazing 🤩
Omg this is amazing!! Please make defying gravity
