Idling trucks loves to throw emissions codes. I'm in the Midwest and these last couple of weeks that were at a high of 0°F, I had so many trucks in with emissions codes. It was so cold that the exhausts couldn't get hot enough to do a burn, or the DEF would take too long to thaw and throw codes.

I'm glad to see Edison Motors team up with Louis to proudly show this aspect of your vehicles off! I am looking forward to seeing those trucks on the road! I really love the technique you use for engine braking too. Really great stuff!
You know what I like about Edison more than anything else, it's that the guy's running it appear to be immune to bullsh!t, they just want to make a better product, and so they did. It's really a nice return to form, away from value engineering, back to actual progress.
51:00 As an owner operator trucker, I just wanted to clarify, you do not need to buy a subscription for an ELD just to drive, but you do need some type of log if you are actually hauling anything for hire. Some companies do take out a small weekly subscription for the ELD, some include it in their company take percentage. If you just bought a truck and you're driving it home under the dealer tags, legally that truck is not for hire yet, so you don't need a log at all. Granted, if you get pulled over, some cops are too dumb to realize this, but if they give you a ticket you can successfully fight it in court. General rule of thumb: for hire - need to log your hours, not for hire - no log required.
I've been enjoying following you guys and it's great to be hearing more about how the right to repair is planned out. Keep up the awesome work, sometimes it takes a group of regular guys to shake up an industry.

The developers in the rc hobby market have been doing amazing things in terms of creating firmware along with GUIs that allow the end user to make the system work how they need, but also include warnings and failsafes that prevent bad things from happening. They are very talented programers, and these are open source projects. For many people involved this is not a primary source of income. If at all.
Yep. At i work as a sample prep and testing tech in an industrial testing facility. We have a couple of old machines to do testing on elemental content of materials. They still are good, they got the calibration element numbers constantly. But they can be fixed in house. No need to hire a technician to come out to swap one part for 4000 and a day of work when we can do it for 100.
edison motors and Rossman should always keep in touch and exchange ideas or brain storm together. You two would make the best lobby group in north america.
To be fair, diesel-electric mostly only makes sense for heavy duty applications. For measuring miles on the highway, a straight diesel-to-wheels transmission is more efficient, and for city driving straight electric makes more sense.
@@Validole Idk, a plug-in diesel hybrid makes a lot of sense in a low-mileage use, too. It really does also make sense for long commutes also because you'll have no fuel burned for a portion of each way of your trip if you plug in at work. The offroading community love this too. There's really not much of a downside to it.

He’s said that it could be modified to work with most vehicles that have a solid rear axle (almost all trucks, almost all vehicles before 1980, Mustangs until 2015), but beyond a certain point you’re better off building your own kit. They should definitely make one for the GMT400/800 (1988-2006). Lots of those trucks still around with well over 300,000 miles. Lots of engines and transmissions are wearing out, but with frames and bodies that are still in good shape, especially in Dixie and the southwest. FWIW, Ram is introducing a plug in hybrid truck next year, but I’m sure it won’t have the same ownership mentality. It definitely won’t be nearly as durable as the old Chevys and Fords.

"Alright, dress appropriately, come in if you're cold, make sure you drink water when you need it, take your phone in case there's an emergency on either end, be back by dinner or dark (depending on time of day/year) and be good." Have i had to go hunt him down? Of course, but it's always at least fifteen minutes after i told him to be home. Five-ten minutes? "Hey, you're late." "I know, i was having fun and lost track of time." "Alright, you're staying home tomorrow, be better next time." Now he's a teenager, and he's super responsible. Weird.

your truck is a PRIME example of why common parts and LONG term support is NEEDED VOLVO does NOT make a turn signal for that anymore and I HAD to build one out of a NEW ones and the original one because VOLVO dropped support for any older then 2004 there dealer software WILL NOT hook up to that truck anymore if you had the "VECTRO D12" engine the weights you are running a Cummins C 8.3 would be a "better" option and that alone would improve your economy as a N14 is WAY OVER POWERED for those loads but do agree the sounds are second to a big OL Detroit screaming up a logging road (-:

Especially on more local trucks that don't get enough highway time to do a burn(regen).
Every person working around high voltage knows what LOTO is and how to do it, it is necessary to living if you work in an environment with high voltage machinery.
15:40 i love it when people ask an expert that is near them for a quick answer, that shows you know most stuff butnot all and are not affraid to ask in publi´c for help if you need it
Yay standardized parts! Big Manufacturing Company LLC is trying to bring back standardized parts in the tractor world, right across the boarder in Havre Montana. I hope it grows into a movement.
I am absolutely willing to pay a lot more for something that is well made, that I can service myself with minimal specialized tools.
I'm glad to see Edison Motors team up with Louis to proudly show this aspect of your vehicles off! I am looking forward to seeing those trucks on the road! I really love the technique you use for engine braking too.
Really great stuff!
If the fuel tanks are the same size as before the conversion, the new range before needing to refuel has to have at least doubled...
Edison removes the second tank.
True, but at least you have the option of the same range, or double the range.@@philipx2
You can refill in 30 seconds from your jerycan and be in back in business. Not like you need to wait for 4h till battery are fully charged
You know what I like about Edison more than anything else, it's that the guy's running it appear to be immune to bullsh!t, they just want to make a better product, and so they did.
It's really a nice return to form, away from value engineering, back to actual progress.
lets goooooooo!!! best transparent companies i know filming together!!
Mind blown that these guys connected 🤯🤯🤯
Hell yeah! Keep hauling brother!
I've been enjoying following you guys and it's great to be hearing more about how the right to repair is planned out. Keep up the awesome work, sometimes it takes a group of regular guys to shake up an industry.
2 of my favorite creators in one video!!!
Only 10 minutes in but you're a good interviewer. At this point you're directing the conversation very well.
Opposite ends of the accent-spectrum,
But one Mind where it matters.
Love this!
Man moulded by concrete and bagels.
The other mouldef by logs and maple syrup.
I'm so glad I clicked on this video! I wish there were ICE to EV conversions even for regular cars. I would in a heartbeat drop my engine outa my Velositor and plop in some batteries and a new motor.
Anyhow this made my entire night knowing someone is essentially making an open source electric/hybrid vehicle. Keep up the work man! Best of luck from Onterrible
Ooh I watched this live. Super glad this team up finally happened!
Wow guys, two of my favorite channels, together, an unlikely duo that makes sense. Keep up the good work man
This is such an awesome collaboration!!!!!!big ups to louis
Love when my fave channels collide, great vid guys !!
This is the best thing ive ever seen
edison motors and Rossman should always keep in touch and exchange ideas or brain storm together. You two would make the best lobby group in north america.
I am very impressed!!! I 49:05 wish Edison would make trucks for regular consumer drivers
There Making Conversion Kits For Regular Pickups Now Too
To be fair, diesel-electric mostly only makes sense for heavy duty applications. For measuring miles on the highway, a straight diesel-to-wheels transmission is more efficient, and for city driving straight electric makes more sense.
@@Validole
Idk, a plug-in diesel hybrid makes a lot of sense in a low-mileage use, too. It really does also make sense for long commutes also because you'll have no fuel burned for a portion of each way of your trip if you plug in at work. The offroading community love this too.
There's really not much of a downside to it.
@@Validole While you are correct, There are still clear advantages to diesel electric Depending on drive style and what the truck would be used for. Should everyone go Diesel electric of course no! But the option should be out there for those who want it
@@R.dactedNot quite regular pickups, it’s designed around a Ford F-550. He’s said it will definitely work in a 350 and a Chevy 3500, but will require modification to the original vehicle.
This discuusion was about human freedom tha EVs. Very well done
It’s not the “increase sales “ that’s the core problem, it the “cut expenses no matter what”that the major problem.
I really hope this style of design gains traction
18:45 carry a bafang a battery a bicycle and a Louis best usage case for straight electric. New vlog Mr Rossmann
Good call Louise, ..these guys are doing it !
when i saw you uploaded this video i was so exited to watch it, made me happy for the rest of the afternoon
OMG how did I know you two would meet up?!? This is great!!!!
2 of my favorite people and I don't care much for people.
A couple of some of my favorite content providers😊
Louis 2024:
Truck doesn't have turn signals?! No problem, give it to a BMW driver, problem solved....
He‘s not wrong😂
Best cross over watched it 100 percent and found it all interesting
WhistlinDiesel is gonna send an axle into low earth orbit if he gets ahold of the PID loop😂
Imagine that ebike scenario with one of those gargantuan mining trucks😅😅😅
Now if Edison motors ever decides to branch off into Edison Printers, you'll be 2/3rds to saving the world
This is awesome af best duo ever!!!!
I love that you guys met up and talked 🤘🤘🙏🏻🍻
this is a amazing talk between to amazing gentleman.
My two favorite people together
17:00 I love how we all just accept the intended compliment when Louis calls his guest’s product “thousands of pounds of shit” straight to his face 🤣
On the parenting thing, that's exactly how my son is raised. It's "can i go out and play?" "Homework done? Chores done?" "Yeah." "Alright, dress appropriately, come in if you're cold, make sure you drink water when you need it, take your phone in case there's an emergency on either end, be back by dinner or dark (depending on time of day/year) and be good." Have i had to go hunt him down? Of course, but it's always at least fifteen minutes after i told him to be home. Five-ten minutes? "Hey, you're late." "I know, i was having fun and lost track of time." "Alright, you're staying home tomorrow, be better next time." Now he's a teenager, and he's super responsible. Weird.
for me it was "dinner" OR street light come on be home
and a CO worker has a kid and "locked" in fenced back yard and NOT allowed out of the yard FULL STOP never out of sight
Y’all should build an electric off road wrecker and get into the off road wrecker games with matts off road recovery to show off the ability of the technology. That would sell pick up kits
It would do incredibly well. I towed a dead F-350 diesel home with a Prius, if that little nugget can do it a purpose built one would be incredible.
Great interview guys, love your work and ethos. It really is great to have you in the industry.
Lets go!
Hotboi shit!
Cant wait to hear these legends in the making!😎
Oh I gotta watch this. The crossover I didn't expect, but wow.
WORLDS COLLIDE.
I'm a retired Mechanic, when I started working there was about a dozen oil filters and that fit everything on the road, Today one vehicle may take 5 different oil filters depending on options. Every model is like this, there are no longer any universal parts every thing is model specific causing prices to soar and down time to rise because no one can stock that many parts
Louis Ross,an Seal of Approval. Sold! Where do I sign?
I have a 2001 Volvo. VNL that I use to tow my 45’ 5th wheel RV. It would be awesome to convert it. As much as I love hearing that N14 purr, hybrid would be cooler. And then I don’t have to run a generator in the trailer as it can get all the power it wants from the truck while camping.
You probably could keep the original motor and just have a generator put in place of the transmission
Yeah but that defeats part of the fuel savings of going to a smaller engine. But an option…
your truck is a PRIME example of why common parts and LONG term support is NEEDED
VOLVO does NOT make a turn signal for that anymore and I HAD to build one out of a NEW ones and the original one because VOLVO dropped support for any older then 2004
there dealer software WILL NOT hook up to that truck anymore if you had the "VECTRO D12" engine
the weights you are running a Cummins C 8.3 would be a "better" option and that alone would improve your economy as a N14 is WAY OVER POWERED for those loads but do agree the sounds are second to a big OL Detroit screaming up a logging road (-:
Crossover that makes me happy❤
I work in the MD and HD industry (warranty)...the aftertreatment systems have added a huge cost to the truck and repairs are a nightmare. I like what u guys are doing.
Heavy truck mechanic for a fleet and 90% of the repairs are "aftertreatment" related - got 2 "full derates" waiting for me on MONDAY
@@jasonriddell almost all my stories started with "derated"
This was really good, I follow Louis and Edison, both in one video is epic to me. Good conversation wouldn't expect less from both of this channels.
