Today was crazy, I decided to unwillingly participate in the speeding ticket challenge on an electric skateboard. It sucked, the cop wasn't that nice but I understand as I was riding my board in the street... But then again I a a trained professional :/

No. The cop has 0 authority to do that. It’s not licensed, as long as he operates it within the confines of the law (staying to the sidewalk) the cop has no authority to keep him from riding. The cop didn’t have any clean infractions on him either, that’s why he wasn’t given any tickets. The cop also was out of line for tossing the board. He would be culpable for any damage. Dude should have asked for a badge number and filed a formal complaint on the officer after he tossed the board. It’s easy to be big and bad when someone doesn’t completely know their rights. Ask for the white shirt next time then go to the department and file the complaint on top of it.

The only rights on-the-job personnel that are allowed to take away skateboards are securities with bikes, cops shouldn't be allowed to do those kind of stuff unless if they are state troopers then yes I completely understand. Other thing is they would be wasting their time too and could cause lives that could've been saved if they didn't fiddle with the skateboarders.

Knowing the law is key. In my experience most cops don't even know the law. You can find a bunch of videos here on youtube of people doing audits and the cops not knowing what to do, and making up laws :)

That's everywhere. It's because there's not too many laws out there governing skateboards or more so longboards. Many times, cops are going by roller/inline skate and/or bicycle laws, that are obviously going to be very different.

But I had a cop pull his gun on me before for trying to pick my board up after he accused me of stealing out of cars because apparently some shop had issues with other skaters and just blame all of them now. Electric skateboards are a new thing. So there are not many laws out there that cover them. So it's up to the cops to interpret existing laws regarding skateboards and unregistered electric vehicles. The best thing to do is to ride safely and obey all traffic laws. Riding at night, faster than the flow of traffic, with no lights and blowing through crowded intersections is not cool. If you do that in front of a cop, you'll likely get pulled over. Dude was lucky to get off with a warning. Cop even told him he could come back and ride tomorrow. The cop was kind of being a hard-a**, but he could have handed dude a few hundred bucks in tickets.
I think 750W and a 20mph speed limit is the federal max for exempt e-bikes. The exact law on what needs to licensed, what doesn't, and where you can ride them varies from state to state. Most electric skateboards exceed these numbers. So it's a gray area.
What did the cop mean you can't ride a skateboard in the road. To hell with that, Casey Neistat does it everyday and in NEW YORK which is far busier... lol
It varies by state. Some states you can't ride on the road and some you can. New York is actually one of the most lax states with skateboarding because of the traffic congestion. They encourage alternative transportation.

I respect your decision to not react to the officer throwing your board... it's not even my board and i got kinda mad at the officer and in my head was like "fuck that I would have snapped" but at the same time that's what the officer wanted you to do So he tried to provoke you so u could do something to get arrested or (in my case) maybe would've been shot... because obviously he had a nasty attitude to begin with while the other officer was nice and understanding.

you can see in my videos "How many cops does it take to stop an electric skateboard?" I was cooperative and they treated me very well and it ended up being hilarious for all the exaggerated deployment of forces.

Caleb N. golf carts don't need turn signals, reverse lights, brake lights or mirrors to drive on road in delaware, just headlights if u wanna drive at night I would imagine most other states are the same.

Billy Joel - actually it's not the same. GC's must be Street legal in FL. IE: Have all lights and turn signals. And you can't drive them on main roads. Only back and side roads. You can cross a main road. But not drive on it.
We have lots of people that drive them here due to the weather. They trick them out, mod them quite a lot.

A motor is a cylinder... it can't be upside down. Any way you throw it, it gets the impact from the fall...
It was not hit directly due to the wood of the board being between it , and dampening the impact of the motor to the ground.
It would be an atrocious design if the engineers built it so weakly that a free fall from three feet would break it.
