Mario teaches typing is literally the single reason I can type 110 wpm today. Got grounded once in 5th grade and this was the only video game I was allowed to play lol
Love this game. My first time typing back in grade school I couldn’t even hit 30 wpm. I played this game like crazy. Then in junior high my typing improved so much that my teacher who taught that basic typing class suggested I take a more challenging class. I was able to find a data entry job. Average wpm with little to no mistakes is over 60 (highest period over 100). So yeah best educational game for me.
Being forced by my Grandma to play this as a kid in the early 90s is why I type 120 words per minute to this day. And typing was the only reason I NEVER had to work at a fast food joint right out of Highschool. I landed Data Entry gigs for 12-14 dollars per hour right out of Highschool and that was in 2001. Would basically be like someone going straight from Highschool to $20 dollars an hour in today's era. :D

@@C0metm He was not fired, nor was there an 'Old Mario Voice'. Before Charles Martinet, Mario didn't have a consistent voice, it was all different actors.
I got this at the book fair in like 2nd grade. I was so pissed off after I installed it lol. I was only like 6, so I didn't realize it was a learning game when I got it haha
Not gonna lie, the game is actually decent, it does really good its job of improving typing skills, people complain of being a very bad Mario game but come on, don't expect an exciting and epic adventure from a 1992 educational game
I remember this being installed onto the computers in computer lab back in elementary school, and I used to like playing this. I forgot the name of it and thought it was called Super Mario Typing for a long time.
Same, minus the computer lab and and not remembering what it was called, but we did have it at school in the class that did have computers and I liked it because it was Mario.
Nowadays one space after a period is the norm. But this was back when you were expected to type two spaces after a period; that probably messed up my castle stage results more than anything.
I remember playing this a long time ago at a friend's house and I think Mario sounded like a chipmunk when talking lol. Has this happened to anyone else who played this? Is there a way to get Mario to sound like this in the setup file?
+Matthew Rivera It sounds like it was probably a problem with the sound card setup. If the drivers were forcing the low quality files to playback at a higher rate than they were recorded at (like a 16khz wave file played back at 44khz) it would play faster and higher pitched than it is supposed to. SB clones sometimes ran into issues like that.
I learned typing from this as a kid because they made a game out of it.....Then was pissed I had to waste 3 semesters of Typing class in Jr. High when my GWAM was over 80
+DoomKid Hmm I just looked at that video, and it sounds like he didn't set up a sound-card. Without running the setup utility, it probably defaulted to the PC speaker.
So this is what this game was supposed for sound like! Lol. We had this on our IBM PS/1 486 with an internal speaker. No voices or music just terrible clicks. Loved it anyways haha
I cant find it but there was a typing game that had a hub world in modern world theme then the mini game would go to mario and a few other game. Villian stole the letter. Or something. Main character was a boy or girl generic or something.
If you like this you might also like Ztype. It's free to play. If you want to spend money for a typing game typing of the dead is great and another game series called typing chronicles is excellent by a studio called Fishing Cactus.
This was the first time Charles Martinet voiced mario, he sounds super rough in comparison to how we are used to him. The upcoming Smash Bros Ultimate will be the 100th game he voiced him.

@Galo Dutan Me too. However, in the CD-ROM version of Mario Teaches Typing 1, Martinet replaces Ruben.
But he sounds like Mario but with lower voice so it sounds good to me

Whoever came up with the idea for a Mario typing game was a genius.
Mario has the most menacing prowl in this game. He's out for blood.

This one isn't Charles. He voiced the second game.
The first game he voiced mario was Mario's Game Gallery.
