There's two ways it pops out of gear. Synchros being worn out, which is what yours sounds like. Or in my case, it really was my shifter. The Detent was worn out. When it's the shifter itself, it doesn't make that gear tooth sound, it just makes a sudden pop and its back into neutral.

My 2008 Jeep Unlimited’s clutch doesn’t pop out all of the time, so I doubted I need a new transmission. I’m sure this is the issue. Thank you.
I just ordered it for my 2006 Jeep liberty. The B&M shifter is now 549.00 But still cheaper than a rebuilt trans. 3 transmission shops said to try this first. So I will update this post. My part will be in tomorrow. Wish me luck.

I also had a rubbing noise coming from the transmission like the sound of a baseball card on the spokes of a bicycle. That noise has gone away. The shiftier is so tight now with no slop . The stroke is also shorter. Thank you very much for the video.
Honestly I don't think that the synchros were bad at all, it was the shifter bushings itself that got weak over time, as you could tell how sloppy it was before you swapped it. Any shifter has to be tight otherwise the pressure of the clutch and transmission itself will make it pop out of gear. Seeing how cheap Dodges have been built its no surprise they would use cheap shitty bushings in their shifters. Now if it was the synchros, you would of experienced hevay grinding in more than one gear plus random popping of multiple gears. Good idea and nice easy fix, $500 instead of $2k or more for all reman or rebuild. Now just mark the price up to cover the repair. ;-)
I will be attempting this B&M 45195 shifter install soon on a 2007 Dodge Nitro 3.7L with the same NSG370 6 speed mercedes built transmission. I have the same issue with occasional violent popping out of 1st gear and sometimes 3rd. Thanks for the video
@@Aeroscott99 the owner could not justify the cost. I ended up removing the upper shift shaft dust boot as a bandaid solution. It did actually reduce the popping out of gear to almost never.
Luckily my 09 was covered under warranty so they replaced the 1st and 2nd gear sync rings, but what a pain in the ass. Had to go to three dealers before one would work on a standard. No one drives them in socal apparently. Good job.

Nobody had ever figured this out. last year I watched a video where a guy in California “AutoEdits” did a tremendous amount of replacement of parts on his Jeep, one of which was a B & M shifter. He never complained of this gear problem before or after, his reason for changing it was the shifter waging like a dog tail lol!. So it led me to believe this was the problem, “the shifter”. I am having the same problem with my 2008. Wanted to replace the shifter, but haven’t had the money. I will be doing this the beginning of the summer.
Haven’t done it yet, I know it needs a rebuild, “transmission“. My Problem, first gear and reverse. The problem comes from The ring gear and shackle. If it is caughtin the very beginning, changing the shifter would help.

I had a brand new 79 Toyota pickup, 4 x 4 that did that exact thing. Under waranty, the dealer apparently replaced the synchro, the gear, and the complete clutch. The truck only had 5000 miles on it and was not abused. Me thinks the dealer ripped off Toyota, if it was just the shifter?

I thought that was the issue, I replaced that 2 years ago and I'm still having the same issue, I've almost replaced everything in the transmission in it happens again. Synchronizers, replaced. Shifter, replaced. Clutch, relaced throughout bearing, replaced. You name it I've done it. A keeps popping out.

I did that and it went from popping out anytime I engaged 1st while rolling to popping out only 2-5% of the time (which is only when my tires are spinning really fast and im engaging 1st at like 5-7mph which is where u should be engaging 2nd). Mine was popping out today in the humid weather but I was in 2 wheel drive and my back tires were spinning on wet pavement even though I was stationary so again another situation where tires are spinning fast and trying to engage first. Switched to 4wd for wet pavement/low grip and nothing.

Wrong. Change your transmission mount. It may not look worn. If youre over 80 thousand miles. Trust me its worn. Dont do all this nonsense. Change your transmission mount. Done. Synchros are great, good transmission.
So you can't diagnose the problem and just purchase a part hoping that it fixes the issue. " if it doesn't fix it popping out of gear I will just return the part". Glad you didn't return the part after you used it to try fix something you no nothing about.

Did you replace the shifter? My 15 jku likes to pop out of 1st and randomly out of 4th. Trying to figure out what I should do.

CHRYSLER HAS A TSB ABOUT THE SHIFTER BOOTS. DRIVE WITH BOTH INNER AND OUTER SHIFTER BOOT REMOVED AND SEE IF IT STILL HAPPENS

When I bought my jeep it had this problem. Mine was because the jeep had a body lift on it . I had to buy a new shifter .

Not everything goes as planned at an auction. You can catch 10 cars with issues and then miss some one off issue you haven't come across before.
