The first patented curl bar was engineered by Lewis Dymeck in 1950 and called the "Dymeck curl bar". The rights were sold a number of years later and the name was changed to "EZ curl bar". The EZ is just an abbreviation for easy.

And they're "easy" in the sense that they're "easy" on your body. A neutral wrist position puts less strain on the tendons in the forearm and is therefore less likely to cause tendonitis.

@@gavinkwan5403 Cerakote. I also have 2 Rogue Ohio bars, a black one in black oxide and a red one with cerakote. They all look pretty good still. The black oxide one has a slight patina in the high use areas, but I think it makes it look even better. The knurling feels slightly different on each. The red is a touch sharper, and the black a tiny bit smoother.

I have the regular length, chrome Rep bar. It is AWESOME! The needle bearing they added gives the perfect amount of plate spin and I'm a big fan of the 30mm bar width. It's hard to find a curl bar that isn't too skinny or a full 2" fat grip. I like the passive knurling, but would like it fully knurled.

Could it be that you have an older version?

You might have an older version of the Bells of Steel EZ Curl bar? I bought the Bells of Steel EZ curl bar about 2 months ago, and it matches the link in the descrption - it's not the same as the bar shown in the video. The current model (?) has less aggressive bends, and it's not fully knurled. It's a nice bar, but my one criticism is that the knurling does not extend far enough into the narrow grip section.

Some other bars that are not strictly curl bars but allow for similar effects, i.e. rotation of wrist to allieve pain, are bars with rotating handles like the CUBB or Henchgripz. Might be worth covering in a future review.

It looks like a significant number of bars on Amazon are made based on the same design, so it comes down to which brand uses slightly better bearings/assembly processes to some degree. Even some of the brands not on Amazon marketed as "high end" weight equipment are most likely made in some of the same factories, whether assembled in the US or not.

Appreciate the review Coop! I knew I wanted a rackable bar, so that narrowed my choices. Since I'm the type of guy who tends to buy (kinda) low, only to upgrade soon after, on your recommendation I decided to skip to the head of the line and ordered the REP bar. Coop I love your channel and seeing the growth over the years is awesome but the fact that fringe sport equipment is never on your lists drives me nuts especially for this one I think they make a very good curl bar ! Comparable to bells for sure maybe even a in between closer to rogue

I recently looked at Titan's Rackable EZ Curl Fat Bar. What are your thoughts on that one?

In 1950, Lewis teamed up with Andy Jackson, founder of Jackson International Barbell Company, and the Dymeck curl bar was created and patented. However, the duo sold the rights to Bob Hoffman between 1954 - 1964. Bob Hoffman later changed the name to EZ curl bar, with EZ being an abbreviation for 'easy.

What's the advantage of having a curl bar instead of a straight bar?

Coop, you should try to swap out cheap with affordable. Other than that, love your videos. 💪🏼

Just bought one to use with elastic bands. It hasn’t even been shipped and I regret buying it. I can use elastic bands without a bar. Is it that useful or should I cancel it?
