What do we do when there is huge lines in hospitals, going to one means half day is over & one doc, only consultation visit in Delhi is not less than 1000INR. Then they prescribe same medicines.
Nd in the pandemic, we had to self medicate as all the hospitals were full, we all indians know what was the situation. Though not supporting self medication, this is the ground reality

Rubbish it is the fault of the Government you do need large sections of population hooked on opiates. We had no choice nothing to do with "King Modi". If you cannot obtain them over the counter you will be better of that is a Government responsibility instead you have shouty finger waving Modi who will do no press conferences, there will be no questions in glorious new Modi BJP Bharat.

Age of the internet, if done wisely after reading instructions, it's cheap. life saving and no harm at all.

It should be made known that the same ADR which is rare is seen with Paracetamol which is available OTC. This ADR is also seen with Diclofenac, Ibuprofen, Aceclofenac and Aspirin among a host of other drugs. Since this is already reported with these drugs there is no alert given. Why single out only mefenamic acid. Non medical people should refrain from commenting on medical expertise matters!

Doctors have become greedy over the years (except for a handful honest ones). They'll prescribe drugs found exclusively in the pharmacy next to their clinic, they'll prescribe the same meds again and again for which the kickbacks are more, they'll prey on your eagerness to get well soon and ur financial status. Very few who actually spend time in diagnosing ur problem before putting pen to paper and writing a list of medicines.
As far as govt facilities are concerned, well, seeing is believing... we are better of dying than be treated as dead and useless entities, just because we are in a government facility (again have experienced a few superb govt facilities, but that's far and between)
Verdict: You may self medicate, with caution. Now thats the tricky part.

Ayushman Bharat for poor people, CGHS for central govt employees, ECHS for state govt employees. Free for kids less than 5 years, and any student of a govt school (in government hospital, need to bring your school ID).
People who can afford pay for their private insurance, which you can claim on your Income tax.
The wait time for emergency in govt hospital on average is less than 30 minutes and less than 10 mins in private. (As reported by Wion).
Also India has become a hub for medical tourism for elective surgeries.
Now which foreign country are are you comparing with ?

@@DoctorJaneDoeAyushman Bharat and Golden Card are not accepted by all hospitals, only limited ones. And those who accept it, they accept it only for admission in hospitals for major operations.
These 2 cards are not accepted for OPD (medicines, cold, fever, or regular health checkups.)
Please, get a check of reality before you comment on anything. Govt schemes are good on paper, but their implementation is not going very well for poor and middle class people.
