"I want to tell you I'm L." one of the best lines in the show
This particular line (as well as that potato chip one lol) is probably the biggest reason that the subtitled version is so much more fun to watch, and even more-so as the first time. In Japanese he just says "watashiwa L des" which means "I'm L." So it's cooler not necessarily because the acting is better, but because it was animated to the Japanese language and you have to essentially come up with filler language in order to express the same thing in English otherwise the lips don't sync properly.
@@sweetnumb how does that make it better in japanese though? personally i prefer it in english because "watashiwa L desu" is so boring and basic, the way they dramatize it in english makes it more fun. plus not just for that moment, but for other moments in anime as a first time watcher especially eng dub can make it more enjoyable bc subs just translate word for word while dubs say the same meaning but in a way in english that sounds cool and flows well and makes sense. obv i prefer sub now that i've watched more but as a beginner anime death note eng dub is perfect

2 sides of the same coin... L and Light.
The anime does a good job of keeping you invested in this story. If you think about it, a large majority of the episodes is just people talking and thinking in their head with very little actual action. This is why Death Note works as an anime, there's no way you can translate people just thinking in their head most of the time, to live action. The anime keeps your attention by being over the top dramatic with its cinematic presentation which you can't achieve in the restrictions of real life. It all comes down to good directing.
I think at least in the West we don’t like to use monologues in our movies or think negatively of them and it sucks because you can’t really get the complicated motives of some characters across without monologue. I think a live action death note is technically possible but they would have to be open to monologues and interesting visuals that exist solely as a story telling device to represent the mental chess game they’re playing. I just don’t think a good director will take that on even though it could be really good.

I remember watching this video essay where they were praising the exposition in Death Note.
They removed sound and for 3-5 mins at a time nothing happened on screen, just people talking!

9:40 It would be but L chose Hideki Ryuga as a name because it was an extremely famous pop idol, and he knows Kira is not dumb enough to attempt to kill Hideki, but on the off chance he does, if Hideki dies, then it would just as light said ''Announce to the real L that i'm Kira'' and that would be the end of it.

Dont forget, when he killed Raye and the rest of the FBI agents, they called off their investigation too. People think killing Raye was a mistake, but he cleared a lot of obstacles with that move.
The reason why L's eyes are like this is because he's an insomniac.
The Chip scene is a big big turning point in the action

My two fav anime’s AoT and Death Note. It’s so logical if you know what I mean that’s what I love about these two shows. Also the fact these two shows are so fast paced, but of course as time goes Attack on Titan and Death Note get a little slower paced but yet it’s still fast. I don’t mind slow paced anime’s but I was really surprised about these two.
