They need to re-release No More Heroes 1 and 2 for the Switch, or I'm worried no one will buy the third one. The series has been away for so long, and those Wii games are getting harder and harder to play nowadays.

I think I'm one of the few people on TH-cam that prefers the US version of Philistine over the JPN version.
I always felt she was singing it as she was hunting you down. The JPN version has some digital distortion to the voice that kind of feels odd.
That and I found that downbeat a little weird for the overall flow of the song. The US version just sounds like it hits harder.

I haven’t even watched the video yet and I’m already on board based on the title alone.
Part of what makes this a great sequel is how it defies so many sequel standards, including things that have made other great sequels so great. I also think special mention needs to be given to the Nier games in this context, because I firmly believe Automata turned out so well because Desperate Struggle set a precedent for quirky auteurs to know when to move on from playing certain cards they've already played. The first game intentionally made players ask "why not just a location-select map?" and the second game says "yeah, why not?" and regresses (successfully and brilliantly!) instead of adding in a ton of random encounters and other active features like every other sequel usually does when criticized for not having enough to do in certain interactive areas. Altogether, the way you navigate the city between 1 and 2 is one of the best set-up/punchline executions in gaming, and I wish more people praised it.
Can you explain the set-up/punchline idea? I don't really know what you mean by that, and I'm a huge Suda fan.
@@L33PL4Y Well, the first game has the whole open town, but the flaw is that it's all empty. So you would think they would address that flaw by filling the town with all sorts of little bits of content like Shen Mue or something. Instead, they just replace the big open world town with nothing to do by giving you a neat map with plenty to do. I hope maybe that sort of explains the way it came across to me, anyway. Upon first playing Desperate Struggle I got a good laugh out of it when I was expecting a populated Santa Destroy only to receive a small literal map, instead. A map I loved and cherished. ;D
@@Pensive_Scarlet I'm not sure I'd call that a punch line, but yeah, I still agree. I remember appreciating that so much when it happened. I didn't want the open-world anymore. They gave me exactly what I wanted.

I love NMH2 in concept. I think the game play holds up, just needed more variety
there are segments you play as shinobu and some fights are different like ryuji's, compared to the first game there was way more variety despite most of the new things added gameplay wise didn't really work too well or felt out of place, the ability to just quickly travel to a place instead of driving around shortened the length of the game leaving more space for fights instead of grinding for 5 hours in a 9-13 hour game which improved the game tremendously tbh.
@@Fang_Tooth the variety in NMH2 I'm referring to mainly comes back to the fact that they let you play as both Henry and Shinobu but in a limited scale. It would be a nice unlockable for beating the game, if you could play as either of them throughout levels you couldn't before. Same thing with the "special boss" from having a save file from NMH1. Once you find your choice of beam katana, you're rarely ever going to swap it. And because of the beat em up approach to combat, there is no flexibility akin to a hack n slash where the tools help aid in variety with various ways to approach (basically no combo potential.) Even then, the tease of 50 bosses is exactly that: a tease. It's difficult to accept Charlie Macdonalds cheerleaders to account for 25 other competitors, as it goes against the concept of the deadly competition in the first place. Same thing with the mall section where you have to clear a parking lot of 100 enemies. There are big lows to NMH2, and I'm not saying I hate it, but it's hard to ignore some of it's flaws.
@@EmrlsCommunity true I get what you're saying although the first nmh and 2 are up there with my favourite games there are a lot of flaws, grindy parts and things that suck like not being able to redo a stage unless you start a new save file.
@@Fang_Tooth I agree lol. it's the main reason I'm super hyped for NMH3. I hope some of these oversights are ironed out. Those things alone don't hurt the experience, but they hinder the longevity of it.

@@giornogiostar3214 Imagine if Jasper actually did murder all of Travis's buds and in the end right before Travis delivers the final blow to Jasper, he gets a random memory of Henry saying _"That revenge-driven movie you told me to watch was pretty fuckin' shit, mate"_ and lets Jasper go.
@@lucylu3342 I somewhat agree but if you replace Silvia's head with Dr. Naomi so she can still give the exposition in the cutscenes. (Or have it be a twin or clone)
When I saw that, I was like "Holy shit! The balls of this game!" And was angry and in disbelief, but also happy that the game that was filled with dick jokes took such a hard and dark turn.
Then I gave an eye roll sigh when I saw it was replicas.
Also, come on, it would've been hilarious if they addressed that if Silvia didn't take the giant Mecha, the third fight would be more cinematic. Don't even show it on screen, just a phone call of Travis asking for it with Silvia giving excuses or dismissing it like "I need to take a shower, I'll call when you I get out if you're still alive. "

Edit: Most of the characters given the beard treatment can look kinda funky. Travis ROCKS the facial hair. He, and his Tiger form, NEED a Beard Mode in NMH3.

That’s how I pick games to play. Going for a specific vibe. Sometimes I’m craving some multiplayer competitive games other times I need the loot grind. That was a perfect explanation.

I absolutely adore this game. I can’t wait for the 3rd one to come out. This game and the original have amazing soundtracks. The first one is a really good boss rush game too.

i had a glitch when playing the switch version where my bike would stop wheeling and i couldn’t control it, no one had documented the glitch online so idk why it happened but replaying the game fixed it
"Doesn't make you think of high minded concepts." Man i havent hear something so wrong from someone on this professional a level in years. The entire series is a meditation on the glorification of violence and death. Every boss has some kind of symbolic message behind the wakyness. I get its hard to see but i assure you theres stuff worth thinking about here. Oh well good stuff anyways Jirard. Dont sweat it
Yeah, it’s kind of a major disservice to the amount of symbolism and themes Suda puts into his stories when you write off his games as just over-the-top dick jokes. It’s not wrong to like that, of course- absurdity is a major part of Suda51. But that’s it- a part.

I totally agree with you guys about the symbolism and concepts but I don’t think Jarad really needs to point that out for his game review. Though it would be nice if he enlightened his audience about Suda’s storytelling and his amazing creation of stories and symbolism.
I appreciated the symbolism but it's in the visuals only. The little extra depth wasn't nearly as present in Desperate Struggle. Still enjoyed the game but this one was more about the dick jokes to a considerable degree which was a disappointment for me compared to the first one.

No More Heros 2: It's a Tiger/10
My idea: You get to play as Shinobu and Henry in the third game as well as Travis. Shinobu gets to turn into a lion, Travis still gets to turn into a tiger and Henry gets to turn into a bear.
Did you forget about bishops death? That's what drives Travis
I absolutely love this game. It's still one of my favorite wii games to play casually.

sweet it is so cool to see this I love Suda for his quirky way to make games and personally think he is something that us as gamers should treasure cause we get very few developers like him who genuinely enjoys making games and being as creative as possible with them

Haven't replayed this game as much as i did with the 1st game many times, i should replay this one to get ready for 3. It would only be my 2nd playtrough to be honest.

I know not many fans of the first NMH didn't like Desperate Struggle, but that's only because Suda didn't direct this one. The term "executive director" was made up since he only helped out with the writing. This one's still my favorite and I can't wait until NMH3 comes out.

I’m surprised to see so many people enjoy the mini games over the odd jobs. They’re both super grind-y but the odd jobs at least have charm to them. The mini games just bore me to death
Fun trivia : Travis is related to the tiger probably because in japanese his name is トラビス(Torabisu) and Tora (虎) is japanese for tiger.... So yes, it's probably a stupid pun, which fits the game perfectly
first game was so much fun; never played the second though.
