    As usual the music is fabulous, but this time I'd like to compliment Jack Tuttle on the many witty and funny little things he says at these performances. He must be a great father and teacher. I still chuckle at his quips even if I have heard them 100 times already.

    The interpretation of the Spanish # on the mandolin, guitar plus banjo with bass plus added mandolin timing was superb to say the least. Thanks

    You know, around that time, January 2012, The New Varsity at 456 University in Palo Alto came on the market and there was some talk about turning it into a non-profit performing arts space, like Freight and Salvage -- which had a few years prior undergone a huge capital campaign and a move. Jim Keene the Palo Alto City Manager worked previously in Berkeley so was familiar with the project. Steve Baker of F&S was going to tour the facility but his 16 yo son broke his ankle in a soccer match and he never re-scheduled -- it was always a bit of a pipe dream. But maybe if we had gotten the Tuttles behind the initiative it would have gone thru!

    Every one in this band is amazing. Sadly, they are often overshadowed by AJ Lee. I'll admit, she has the best voice in bluegrass, but they are all great at what they do!

      They are amazing, indeed! Their fingers fairly fly over the frets. There's a touch of the Django Reinhardt about their playing here. AJ Lee has a lovely voice, it's true, but check out Alynda Lee Segarra for an absolutely amazing bluesgrass voice, esp considering she hails from the Bronx. For example, have a look at her "Blue Ridge Mountain" from her "Hurray for the Riff Raff" album.

      I should add that her 'St.Roch Blues' probably gives you a better appreciation of the amazing range of her voice, though it's less 'blues-grassy'.

      have to listen to Molly she has outgrown all of them

    • @jimwillis8747
      @jimwillis8747 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love AJ but Molly's drive and determination sets her apart she's turned her okay voice into something that's magical when you hear her cover of how can I tell you it makes you want to cry and then her songwriting keeps getting better and better she's won ! two guitarist of the years and one instrumentalist of the year and also nominated for vocalist of the year her best feature is her willingness to work with her peers and make music better love her Josh Radnor collaborations those are just spiritual songs it's hard to top and now we are waiting for return to full-blown bluegrass with her new band golden highway and a new record label her return to her roots should go great and make her even bigger star

    These kids are so amazing, but they look very unhappy when they play. Makes me think someone is forcing them or they have other things they'd rather be doing. Idunno

      That's not what Molly said when she accepted The 2017 IBMA Guitar Player of year award she thanked her dad for instilling in her a love of Bluegrass Music.

      Someone can be initially forced to do something but they can't be forced to be that good at what they do if they weren't already immensely talented. We on the outside looking in at these you tube videos can only guess at what the truth is. But I do notice in all of Molly Tuttles videos after she flew the coup to school at Berklee in Boston, does seem to be much happier on stage.

    Where's AJ Lee's solo? Oh wait she can barely play that thing.

    • @sireugenecourtney5797
      @sireugenecourtney5797 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She can play the mandolin and guitar adequately enough to support her vocals and create original music. Everyone can't be a instrumental virtuoso, except Molly who can do it all, sing and play kick ass flat picking guitar..
