    The actor playing as ROCKY Jr. in this movie is actually Stallone's real life son (Sage Stallone), sadly he passed away 10 years ago.

    Yeah, definitely not the best Rocky movie, but it always holds a special place in my heart because I was in middle school and picked on a lot when I saw this, so it I was also going through the process of learning to stand up for myself like Rocky's kid. That said, the follow up to this one is pretty excellent.

    Rocky having the brain issues is what causes him to change his style and start street fighting instead of boxing Tommy, to protect his head.
    Also, calling Tommy out in a street fight was a way of showing up Tommy while not giving Duke what he wanted, which was a promoted boxing match that would make him money.

    • @Lancun
      @Lancun ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. Bare knuckle fighting is way easier on the head than boxing is because a guy can only throw unprotected punches so hard before he breaks his knuckles.

    I really liked the realism of this movie imo. In the fact that after boxers and athletes retire, after they get bad injuries, this is a realism for them. They could lose everything, and struggle a lot. It's sad, but it's true, and it's happened to more than a few athletes in general. I didn't like A LOT of the Tommy story line. It was okay for a little bit, and weird for the rest IMO.

    1:12-1:22 - I was in that high school marching band that played a marching band hired by George Washington Duke. It was in the middle of my 10th grade year of high school (I was 15 going on 16), and we had to ride a bus down at 4am from our high school in the suburbs of Philadelphia to the Overseas Terminal portion of Philadelphia International Airport. We spent most of the day standing on that tarmac, either actually playing "Gonna Fly Now" or miming playing the song (we had actually recorded a performance of it a week or two earlier). It was really surreal seeing the main cast walking around us; with Stallone actually walking up to one of my bandmates to shake hands with him. At the end of our time, we got an opportunity to do a meet-and-greet with the cast (I only got as far as shaking hands with Tony Burton, who played Duke; Apollo's former cornerman who later became Rocky's cornerman). We also got a group picture with our band and the cast.

    15:15 - I think it's a stereotype about Greeks, not Italian.
    18:06 - The rest says: "you both come" (he speaks with a Sicilian accent in this movie so it may not easy to catch it for non-native Italian speakers).
    32:35 - This time he said: "You gave him a beating, eh?"; Translated to English is more something like: "You beat him good, eh?"

      @odiumgeneris729 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup. I know it is shocking for fans that just want to see the best happen for Rocky and adrian, but without conflict between Rocky and adrian, all of the hurdles have to come from outside their relationship, and the circumstances they were hit with in Rocky 5 were huge. In a way, Rocky 5 setup the great performance he would turn in for Rocky Balboa, and especially Creed I.

    • @CrazeeAdam
      @CrazeeAdam ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The only reason this is considered a "bad" Rocky movie is because of the Tommy stuff imo. Like yeah, there has to be some sort of fight I guess or that's what people thought, but the better story is Rocky's fight with mental and physical troubles

    • @odiumgeneris729
      @odiumgeneris729 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CrazeeAdam I don't think people hate Rocky 5 because of the Tommy stuff. I think they hate Rocky 5 because of how low they brought Balboa down. Between the health stuff and losing the money, it's a downer. Seriously! I think people were simply bummed to walk out of the theater without Rocky either getting 1) a clean bill of health and/or 2) getting his money back. This, juxtaposed to Rocky 4, which was essentially a cartoon on par with "GI Joe: a real American hero", that people still don't question the quality of To. This. Day. That's why I'm so glad that the Rocky Balboa character is still so informed by the events of this movie. Also, a former heavyweight boxer being down and out was a huge dose of reality that was missing from the movie before it.

    • @UncensoredScion
      @UncensoredScion ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CrazeeAdam Like I've said I like this movie because it's more personable than the 3 or 4, it's showing that fame is fleeting.
      I mean Rocky's practically forgotten and washed up after his Punch Drunken nature stops him from being boxer and all his money's gone.
      But yeah, the only bad part is Tommy as his plot doesn't really go anywhere.

    • @CrazeeAdam
      @CrazeeAdam ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@odiumgeneris729 true but this is a realism for a lot of boxers and athletes. Like this is real for a lot of sports stars post their prime. As sad as it is, it's real. I think the movie would have been a better story with just Rocky and his son's relationship.

      Rocky lost all his money due to a unscrupulous money investor putting all money into stock market after Paulie who was signed on to be power of attorney and worked with the corrupt investor. Rocky v has only a few things going for it: the concept behind the story-a boxer, our hero suffering from post concussion and who tries to relive the glory days through another boxer? interesting! a awesome into? yes! A heartbreaking mickey speech? Yes! Plus the guy who portrays duke Washington is funny! Plus he's based off the real life villain don king. I feel he was the misused character of the movie. also, the remixed rocky gonna fly now is lit. But yeah its the weakest. Perhaps its biggest pro is that it leads into rocky 6; it was both a necessary stumbling block for stallone but also within universe it puts our hero back to where he started in rocky .

    FYI Tommy was a real boxer. Tommy Morrison was his name. He later after this movie came out won the WBO World Heavyweight title. Originally the WBO wasn’t seen as a major organization until the turn of the century. Now the WBO is recognized as 1 of the big 4 with the WBC, WBA, & IBF. Tommy posthumously is now a fully recognized former world champion (just not lineal. Don’t ask). Yes posthumously. He died from aids. Tommy couldn’t keep it in his pants. Even after he passed his gf seems to not want that to be the cause of his death and claim he didn’t have it. Dude partied a lot and was a whore. He was reckless and got nabbed with the std

    As a kid, I saw this movie, knowing only Rocky 3 and 4, and I didn't liked it. It felt lame that this final fight for Rocky was a street fight. Plus I didn't liked the overall story it told.
    Now, as an adult, I actually prefers it to Rocky 4, and possibly also to Rocky 2. Cause I matured enough to understand that the Rocky movies were never about boxing. They were about fighting against life, when life tries to get you down... And that's what this movie does much better than the 4th one.

    IMO, it's not nearly as dramatic as Rocky, but for me it was even more touching and moving... and considering how touching and moving Rocky was... that says a lot.

Also starring Rene Zellweger and Paul Giamatti, it is a biopic of a real heavy weight boxer who captured the imagination of the entire country during the Depression Era. There's also has a heartwarming relationship sidestory in it as well. Awesome movie and being a true story makes it ten times better IMO than any Rocky movie. You will not be disappointed.

    This was intended to be the final Rocky movie. But it just didn't work as well as they'd hoped. So years later, Stallone made Rocky Balboa to be Rocky's last movie. And it is a top notch movie easily on par with or better than every other movie in the series. It would have been a great send off for Rocky. But then along came the Creed movie and series. Rocky isn't necessarily front and center, but he's still the heart of the story. Both Creed movies were excellent.

    Hi Duaffy!🙂This was supposed to be the final Rocky film. Sylvester Stallone had regrets after this film, and wasn't as hands on making the film. Don't despair due to the views, "Rocky Balboa" is liked much more this this film.

    This movie was not my favorite Rocky movie, I love that Burgess Meredith came back to play Mickey (I think this was his last performance cuz he retired for years but he came back to do Rocky 5). This movie though has a deeper message that's very sad, at least in my opinion. For example, the growing pains between a father and the son, which unfortunately later on became true as his son in real life who plays his son in this movie took his own life. It was also very sad story because Tommy Gunn was supposed to be a victim of greed and what to do wrong as an athlete and yet Tommy Morrison who played Tommy Gunn actually ended up destroying his life and his career and he passed away from so many drugs and women.
    This movie just saddens me watching it, seeing how art imitated life.

      It wasn’t his last performance although he didn’t much between Rocky 3 in 1982 and Rocky 5 in 1990 as did slow down in films was in his 70s when did Rocky 3 and did do movies including Santa Claus in 1985 not the Tim Allen movie of 1994. He voiced a character in 1986 G.I. Joe. The Movie. He went on to do Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men in 1995 his final film after Rocky 5 in which he was in stages of Alzheimer’s disease from which he died of complications from age 89 in 1997.

    I think for the longest time this was hated because it was the ending. and it just didn't live up to the franchise. Now that we have the sixth movie and 2 creed movies with Rocky this movie has become better in the context of the overall story

    I felt the plot had some potential but the writing and feel of the movie was off. I agree that this did not have the same feeling and energy of the previous Rocky movies. The movie just fell flat. Duke and Tommy Gunn just seemed to over the top also....more over the top than Clubber Lang and Drago. But I'll admit that I do watch it from time to time (guilty pleasure I guess) but I definitely won't go out of my way to watch it.....if it's on tv or I do a Rocky marathon, then I'll watch it but other than that, it's a pass.
    Great reaction, Duaffy....can't wait to see your reaction to Rocky Balboa (aka Rocky 6) and the Creed movies.
