    Thank you! Just did the front brakes on my cobalt yesterday with the assistance of your video.
    It was so simple of a procedure though, that now I feel like an ass for all those previous times i have been paying $100+ for this same service I did in under an hour lol. I will never be paying someone to do the front brakes on this car again, and that makes me happy. Thanks again!

    Dont forget if you want it to be perfectly in the middle or cant do the screw driver method. Autozone loans tools for free that act like a clamp to push the piston back. Super easy. You put a deposit but you get all of it back when yiu return it. Courtesy by cleaning it.

    Possible correction.
    My Chilton manual says:
    85 ft-lbs for the caliper mounting bracket bolts (front). You said 80 ft-lbs.
    The caliper guide pin bolts (front and rear) 25ft-lbs not 20 ft-lbs.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @survivormary1126
      @survivormary1126 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree. Many other videos as well say 85ft lbs for caliper bracket mounts and 25ft lbs for guide pin bolts/caliper. 85lbs as well on hub bolts, 35ft lbs for brake banjo bolt, and 155 lbs for axle nut, 100lbs for wheel lugs. I actually did my bolts to 80lbs with my 3.8 ratchet fitting and new bolts snapping off on torque. Also went thru 2 banjo bolts and reverted to the old bolt I sanded lightly on inner surface, wire brushed and reused because it was steel and not aluminum junk. Also I even called dealership with my vin# You are correct!

    Thanks Mike, just changed the pads and rotors for the 1st time on my cobalt today. Had the car for 40K, wouldn't suprise me if they were the pads from the car when it already had 40K at purchase. About to test them out.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You don't have to, you could add some of the anti-squeek to the backside of the pads to help prevent any squeeking noises.

    It should be about 20 FT LBS. You may want to snug them up with a socket wrench and then torque them down with a torque wrench.

    Just got my pad and rotor kit for my 2006 Saturn Ion from you guys. Other DIY vids or write-ups I've looked at say to put brake grease or anti-seize grease on the back and/or metal ends of the brake pads before putting them in the calipers. I noticed he doesn't do this in the 1aauto brake vids I've watched. Do you not recommend this? Why or why not? Thanks! Your videos are great.

  • @ManikMekanik
    @ManikMekanik 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok video, you should also lubricate all metal to metal surfaces, not the rotor though obviously, a different camera angle would have been nice too. My Cobalt's driver side disc brake is rattling loudly, I'm trying to figure out what's causing it. Have had them apart 3 times now & it actually got louder after the last time. Any suggestions?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +ManikMekanik Make sure that all the bolts are tight and the proper brake pad clips are installed. Then double check that you have the proper fitting parts. Then of course always check that the rattling is not coming from another part of the suspension. Check for worn sway bar links, ball joints and bushings.

    If you're c-lever, you can do the job without having to bug your neighbor for a C-clamp. Just don't be a dumbass like me and put your screwdriver between the pad and the rotor. Unless of course you already intend to replace the rotors.
