This is an excellent idea! I’m almost 58 and just bought a Schwinn Al Comp to try to get back into shape after being off work for over five months due to a work injury. Picked up my Wife a new Electra Townie. I have a ‘19 Ford Escape and this may be the perfect solution since I don’t have a trailer hitch. Both bikes have quick release front hubs so dropping the wheel to get them in and out of my car will be a snap. The only change I would do differently is instead of using the wood screws like you did, I would drill the holes for the fittings and use T-nuts on the bottom of the board. That way you can tighten the fittings down using machine screws that will thread into the T-nuts making it much more secure. But thank you again for the great idea!
You being cheap just saved me some $$$ ! Thanks 🙏. Lol I needed this because when traveling to out of state or far trails, bike racks suck for security and heavy traffic!
That’s so awesome! I really don’t want to get a bike rack. For something there “seasonal”. I love this idea! First because transporting two bikes and having enough room for one passenger. Today I scraped his accidentally on the chain of my bike. Just rubbing. It’s either one or the other fit in my car. Which is sad but I’m gonna experiment with this. Thankyou!
this idea is not only dangerous but also uses a lot of time and money. first we have to do is to invert the bike on the wooden plate. weight should always sit on the bottom not be in the air. you buy 3 Cargo straps. You attach both bicycle handles to wooden boards. the third cargo strap must go over the bicycle and be attached to both sides of the car. Remember that the wooden pallet must also be attached to the car, find a hole or other place and fasten well.
Very cool. Very resourceful. Because of what we do for a living, you know, with our hands, I always wear mechanics gloves whenever I do any kind of work like that around my house or yard or shop. Just to reduce the risk of cuts and scrapes.
I like having the bikes inside the vehicle vs outside on a bike rack because they are more secure from theft. It's a pain to lock up bikes and wheels to a carrier and not secure at a motel.
Exactly. That is the only reason I was thinking about doing something like this. A visible bike on a rack for a thief has to be like chocolate cake for a fat man on a diet.
Your video showed up in top of my search so I'm definitely giving you a thanks because I'm going to do the same thing Or put in my mountain bike in my Van.
I used a 9$ mount from riderace which I bought from aliexpress. It have adapters for 4 different sizes. The only cons I found is that the 110mm adapter is exactly 110, so it is too tight so I had to sand it a little bit

Hello. Brilliant DIY mate. I want to do the same with my road bike and have a query, how do you stow/secure the disc front brake callipers to prevent them from hanging, once the wheel is removed with this setup?
They dont require any special care. I know on some cheaper bikes the pads could fall out but these type of brakes they have a clip that keeps them in. Most mid to high end bikes should
Hello! Nice job for low price :-). The name of your bike "Motobecane" is a old name of bikes and motocycle in France. It own to Yamaha now (If I make no mistake :-) )
I suppose that's an option but I don't regret spending $50 or so to make sure my $4k worth of bikes aren't hitting into each other or falling on my dog lol. We go off road from time to time and there's no way they would stay in one place
Be sure to check out my latest video on the whole CR-V Mountain Bike setup! th-cam.com/video/7oMK5rBlf24/w-d-xo.html
Hey at least you were honest " you were ready for this to be done classic

I did something similar to this in my Toyota Sienna minivan. I actually carry two recumbent bicycles this way.
And this is how I'll put two ebikes in the back of my crv and not worry about them being stolen while camping. Thank you kind sir.
Good low cost and creative solution! Think I’m going to use something similar in my truck bed. Thanks for sharing
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
So glad I came across this video! I will be making mounts like this ASAP!

Brilliant idea! Just what I needed to fit 3 MTBs inside my trailer! Very creative 👌

I do if I'm doing mechanical work on my car but tend to neglect it most other times. Which I've paid for and apparently havent learned from lol

Did same with wheel carriers also. Excellent.

Pretty cool, I might try this
Cool to see how the cast of Singles would have made a bike rack.
I had exactly the same problem.Decided the gf would stay home. Not sure yet of the cost...

Thank you! Cheers!
Very cool...thks
What was the old bike rack you were using? We are going travelling and don’t have room for bikes inside the car
Where did you find the support for the bike axle please ?

Thank you! Yes I think you are right I used to ride motorcycles and remember seeing the name.
Does the wooden plank move around at all
No it doesnt. Depending on your vehicle you may have to find a way to secure it but I got lucky lol
I’m gunna do this to my mk3 but wanna make it so I can camp next to it
Or just let the bike roll on the wheels they already have. Use Lolo Racks bar carriers.
hello...what kind of bike is the 2nd one you mounted?
It is a 2014 Ibis Mojo HD. Was my loaner bike but I sold it when my gf got her new bike!
@@DirtTrampMTB nice ride...
I'm so doing this 👍
I like it
3 stars
Amateurs, I went cheaper. I put 2 bikes in a Honda Fit. I put them both handle bars down and front wheel removed. 0 dollars spent.

Did your GF replaced the Motobecane?
