    You really have to be a guru to know how to fix this kind of throttle body, I had an '86 720 and gave me headache after headache, and the guy in Culver City CA. who used to fix them retired, so I sold the truck. And went ahead and got me a '91 Hardbody I have only changed one injector in 30 years, with 226K miles, it is running like a top.

    This video is fantastic! I have a question. Is it possible that reg has failed without the fuel in the vacuum line? If so would you apply vacuum to the vacuum end of the reg to see if it holds vacuum pressure to verify failure?

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it can fail without leaking fuel. The other fail would be high fuel pressure. Try doing the vacuum test to the regulator, it should hold vacuum.

      @@Mountainpageproductions Since you are mechanically incline, you have two choices, remove only the injector housing that bolts into the lower throttle housing. This method is bit tougher, but duable. The injector housing has Phillip head screws that can strip or be tough to get loose. Second method, remove the entire lower throttle housing with the injector housing attached to it.

    I'm replacing my fuel regulator with an aftermarket unit that is remotely mounted. The adapter I got with the unit does not fit. I see you have the same throttle body mounted unit as my 1987 D21. I saw in another video of yours that you replaced your Fuel pressure regulator. Where did you get the adapter you used for your installation and what model number or part number was it? I purchased one but it was too big to fit in the hole.

    I have a 1987 Nissan D21 Pickup Z24i that has always been well maintained. The engine has around 10k miles on it and the throttle body/injectors are original with around 125k miles. It has been running great, but all of the sudden started running rough at idle last weekend and appears to be running rich. I could not get the codes to show up on the ECU, so I cleaned the throttle body (which helped this go away one time before). I replaced the MAF sensor, cleaning the pins on the plug with contact cleaner. No improvement. Today I replaced the original oxygen sensor with an OEM Bosch unit. Again, no improvement. I tried placing my finger over the vacuum port as you did in your video, which did not result in fuel going into the throttle body as your example did. Any thoughts on what to do next? The fuel filter was replaced at the same time as the engine and I only use Top Tier fuel suppliers. Could it be injectors? Bad gas? I filled up the day before this started happening.

      Possibilities:
      Faulty TPS sensor
      Plugged EGR system
      Faulty ECT sensor
      Ignition system
      Dirty or leaking injector(s)

    • @tomroberds6803
      @tomroberds6803 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EliTheOBDTech Many thanks for your quick reply! It looks like TPS and ECT sensors are available, as is EGR valve. Injectors appear to be no longer available, plus removing them appears to require a removal tool unless I'm missing something. Plugs are relatively new, plus I installed NGK plug wires with new cap/rotor some years back. It seems like ignition problems would mean rough running throughout the RPM range, but in my case it seems to run okay (but rich) above 2k RPM. I'll check the easy stuff, but not sure how to approach injector issues.

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomroberds6803 pretty much when dealing with injectors. Best thing is to do an injector balance test with an injector balance tester and a fuel gauge and see how much fuel pressure is dropping.

    • @EliTheOBDTech

      These injectors are notorious for getting clogged up. The only way to replace, is to send them to get rebuilt.

      @@EliTheOBDTech Thanks again, Eli. There are a couple of sellers on eBay that offer 'rebuilt' throttle bodies, but not sure if one or both are rebuilding injectors. They want $$$$ for these units, but with all of the ancillary devices that can go wrong, I may replace some of the ones you suggest first.

    Stupid question. Is it the regulator or the o2 sensor that makes it run shitty? Can I unpulg the sensor?

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both situations can lead to the vehicle to run with problems. A bad pressure regulator will cause the vehicle to stumble and run poorly.

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A faulty o2 sensor will cause to either run lean or rich and lower your gas mileage and at moments run poorly as well.

    • @EliTheOBDTech
      @EliTheOBDTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can unplug the o2 sensor and see if the performance of the vehicle gets better, that will tell you if your o2 sensor is the problem.
