    01:05 What are the most important factors to consider when carrying a concealed weapon and riding a motorcycle?
    01:10 Make sure your gun remains concealed even during the wind gusts of a motorcycle ride.
    01:37 Right-handed shooters cannot and should not draw a firearm at the same time as operating a motorcycle’s throttle.
    02:17 Holster selection can be complicated for motorcyclists.
    02:56 Is off-body carry a good option for bikers?
    03:25 Be certain to maintain control of your weapon at all times.
    04:04 Are motorcycle saddlebags secure enough to store a handgun?

    Good comprehensive video on an often neglected subject. As a lifetime rider one thing I can tell you that wasn't mentioned, is to consider where you place your firearm. If possible, you do not want to place it directly over bone As the adage goes there are two kinds of motorcyclists, those that have crashed and those that are going to crash. If you can, you want to keep your firearm over soft areas so that if you end up rolling down the road it doesn't end up creating greater injuries. I strongly recommend against carry positions like small of the back. Think of what that chunk of steel is going to do to your back if you land on your back going down the road. It may not always be practical, but it's something else to think about.

    • @ERidesOn2
      @ERidesOn2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is was thinking the same. I had a gentle dump on a mini mag flash light/Leatherman tool combo holster. It was positioned at 4...luckily a little more ass than bone, but man I knew it afterwards.

      My uncle was hit while riding and carrying. The doctor told him that if he had been ankle carrying like he normally did, we would have absolutely shattered that ankle and may have lost the foot. Luckily he had decided to hip carry that day. He's all fine now although that bike didn't make it due to the frame cracking

    I ride sport bikes, and the best solution I've found is appendix. I switched to appendix anyway since it was way easier to conceal, especially with a bigger gun. I carry a Ruger Security 9, and with the right sized pants (best go one or two sizes up) it's not an issue, even in an aggressive riding position.

    As a 71-year-old Harley rider, I find my leather vest with interior pockets on both sides is ideal. As said it the video, it's not too likely you'll have to shoot and ride at the same time. However, if I keep my gun on my right side, I could draw with my left hand in an emergency and at the very least put some fear into any attacker. I can wear the vest all the time, so no having to hang it on a restaurant chair back. By the way, some bikes have throttle minders or regular cruise control, so shooting right-handed while riding is not impossible.

    A mesh jacket with armor in the summer for me every ride here in the Deep South. The tech is out there for year round safety and comfort. Yes, it will get a little warm at a stop light, but anything over walking speed let’s air right through.

    • @derekbrown5420
      @derekbrown5420 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep. Hell, my leather riding jacket has enough ventilation that it's comfortable in the summer in central Texas. If a person wants to be safe, there are options. So I suspect that a person who opts out of wearing motorcycle safety gear for comfort is pretty likely to not be all that concerned with firearm safety anyway.

    What about conceal carry while single track dirt bike riding? You could be way out in the mountains by yourself and or a group and i would really like to carry my woods gun for protection from Grizzly, wolfs and mountain lions. The thing is that you do fall down and crash every now and then. I thought about rigging a holster with a securing strap to my chest back pack straps but is that safe or?

I stash my edc weapon between the bag and mount as it’s cordura against my tank gives me easy access if needed in a rush just unzip & grab . Also makes easy access when I get to my destination to holster to go about my day .

With a quality one they’re much more comfortable to ride with and crash with (Damhik). Plus your firearm will always be concealed and never fall out. If you’re more concerned with fashion than firearm safety it might be best to leave it home.

    I have never known any police officer, from any department from my state, to lock up his duty gear, while on duty when using the restroom. That would go against some department's policy and procedures. Some motorcycles do have cruise control that allow you to fire when riding. I was taught in the academy the importance of being able to shoot with your non-dominant hand and other defensive shooting tactics from the 1985 Miami FBI shoot out (A recommended case study). Also, in IPSC and IDPA non-dominant course of fire scenarios are used to help prepare you in case you are unable to use your dominant hand. My first physical exam to be hired for a law enforcement agency was that you had to be able to pull the trigger on anon loaded revolver with both hands. I thought how silly, then to my surprise there were candidates who could not do it. From my experience, Motor officers are trained to shoot while riding. An active shooter is not going to wait for you to park your bike and get off. Be safe

I carry on my right hip at about the 4:30-5ish, and my concern while riding has always been how the gun will impact my body if I go down - falling onto a metal or hard polymer brick sounds painful, but where I'm really concerned is how that might actually cause extensive damage, such as breaking my pelvis or causing internal organ damage (like with appendix carry). Realistically a sawed off pistol grip shotgun, holstered on the side of the tank or on top of the tank, can be fired with an off hand and a wider spread making it easier to hit the target while moving and not worrying about over penetration.

    One strategy I have considered is to have a metal locking holster that I made bolted in the handlebar/ferring area where it could be drawn by either the left or right hand. Right hand drawn when at stop lights and left hand draw while moving. Being buried in the handlebar area it would be fairly unnoticeable. My biggest worry though is forgetting to take it with me when going in to stores or paying for gas etc. This is why I have not implemented this idea yet. In case you are interested in the two metal holsters I made feel free to view two videos I made on locking holsters.

    Question for everyone who is smarter than me: what are your thoughts on using an ankle holster while riding?
    As long as your pant leg isn't going to get blown up to reveal it, it seems a position worth considering, but I am new to the concealed carry life and I figure others have tried this before and have some valuable feedback I can learn from before I purchase the holster.

    Too much emphasis on accidentally exposing the firearm. If you go down, the firearm you're concealing on your person could greatly exacerbate your injuries when you land on it. Off-body carry is better, but it means an entirely different set of criteria come into play, as in not leaving your gun on the bike when you park.

      I have on my Freewheeler in the trunk a good safe that the cable goes through the back in side to a frame point. And when I was on two wheels I had one in my bike trunk or in a saddle bag. I live and mostly ride in open carry states but don't need the trouble if someone cries wofe. So long trips I just put my edc in the trunk and have a NAR s on my side in 22 mag. As its my EDC here on the farm on my left side with my 9 on my right I am use to it being there. I have custom holsters that ride a little bit high but use to them. It gets hot here and all across this area off I 40 AZ,NM,TX,OKLA. So there is some days I do just a tee with vest. I can pull the tee under my NAR and it stays out of site. I fugue that if anything happens it's going to be at a gas pump or light. So first shot is snake shot. Placement. It's set up for green rattlesnakes at here. Keep safe. Be safe.

    • @RIPbiker13
      @RIPbiker13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand what you're saying, but I have to disagree about the gun exacerbating the injury. The gun may very well be destroyed upon impact, and losing it is also a possibility, but unless it's against your spine and you go down right on it, you've got bigger concerns at that point. Not speaking hypotheticals, this is from responding to numerous crashes involving riders with a gun, and that includes when they walk away and fatalities. In those, the firearm was never a factor in the mechanism of injury.

    Wish there was more solution in this video. You could actually show the various things you mention and show them how they would be in normal use. I would say get a Ranger Bag and you can probably put it on over your gear and have quick access to your gun if it is needed. Try to not make people angry so they want to harm you. There are those who might be looking for a fight but I haven't found any in 20 years of riding hopefully my luck will continue because with today's sue the pants off the guy trying to protect himself when the guy starts something with a biker and pulls a weapon and gets shot I don't want to have to go through that and loose my life savings when some jury makes ME the bad guy

    I carry on my Cbr1000rr sometimes being that it's a super sport and the riding position is very aggressive, then add on the fact that I carry a full size 1911 (I guess because I'm just a gluten for punishment). The most comfortable way is to put it in the inside left pocket of my jacket. When I have gone to a restaurant I always go to the bathroom first wiel still wearing the jacket and then once more after paying the tab. I've found its best to figure out the most comfortable way to carry and then work out the rest around that. Think about carrying like always having a infant with you it's always going to be a little inconvenience for the price of safety.
    Ps. My bike is fast enough that if anything happens on the road I just ride away like you said the only times of concern are at stab and grab gas stations.

    I am more worried about carring in a way that I am the least likely to land on it when I go down, or its least likely to cause more injery if I do fall on it. I dont really care if someone sees it, and I live where I dont have to. Hitting the pavement hurts bad enough without the pavement shoving a gun thriugh your ribs, or in to your kidneys. Not that there are great options, but right over vidal organs would not be my first choice.

    I have actually had a motorcycle accident while carrying concealed. Laid the bike down while slowing for a Fire Rescue vehicle coming from the right. Bike slid 150 feet, I slid 100 feet. Gun slid out of holster and a Rescue member picked it up and asked me what to do with it. I lucked out, the station they came from was just 200 feet down the road, one of the Rescue people rode a Harley and moved my bike there for me and locked pistol in tour pack and held my keys for one of my nieces to get when they had AAA come pick up my bike and take it home for me. I live in PB county in Florida, had a permit so no issues there. PB Deputy came to hospital to verify my permit and again no issues. Florida aka the Gunshine state, is very accommodating to legal permit holders. I was riding at the posted speed, but erred riding in the middle of the road, it was damp at 0630 and I didn't notice till too late. I know the Rescue people may believe it might have been their fault, they aer not used to people actually slowing down for them. They came over to me to assist, but could not take me, they already had someone in the back, but waited for 2nd Rescue to pick me up. Props to PBC Fire/Rescue for their professionalism and to PBSO for their respect also. Already a member of USCCA, so there's that.
