    Nice looking lathe. If I may, I'd like to offer just a few pointers. #1 Please, please, please get safety glasses for you and the boys if they're going to be anywhere near the lathe when it's running. #2 Safety glasses on the shelf aren't any better than not having any - wear them every time the machine is turned on . #3 Throw those Harbor Freight cutting tools in the trash bin & get a set of cutters with carbide inserts. I bought the same set & trashed them shortly after trying them. #4 Use soda can, aluminum foil, whatever to shim your cutting tools so that they are at the center of your work. #5 Have fun & make lots of chips. 😃 Looking forward to following your adventures as you learn your new toy.

      Yes Yes Yes I 100% agree with you @ 6:27 I mentioned (Which I know everyone cant see the annotations) But I have a dedicated set of safety glass Just for this area!!!! But you are correct. Ill have the boys do the same. It only takes one accident for permanent damage.
      I saw the bad reviews on these tools but I wanted to get something to play with this weekend.
      Once I pay this lathe and quick tool post off ( I bought both at the same time) I have 6 months no interest so it will be paid off way before then. But once that is done. I will for sure invest in good quality lathe tools.
      Good idea about the soda cans!! I used a 1/8 plate I cut into a strip and some sheet metal but I think the thickness of a soda can will get me right where I need to be.
      I love constructive criticism and highly encourage any thoughts, hints, tips, ticks and points I can take.
      Thanks again for taking the time to comment and watch I really do appreciate it!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the series on this lathe. I've been looking at this one for a long time. Been thinking of getting it with the DRO option that's now available.

      I just added a DRO 24" (see my other vid on the installing) thanks for watching. This has been a great machine

      Thanks I have LOTS to learn but if it takes me 5 years to learn its better to start now than 5 years from now start to learn

    Please don't spin the chuck with them clamping down on some material. The centrifugal force can potentially open the jaws and shoot them in outer space

    • @2LateIWon
      @2LateIWon  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If that happens I got bigger issues but thanks

    Is the GO 752 worth the money or is the GO602 a better buy?

    • @Billbobaker
      @Billbobaker ปีที่แล้ว

      My question too.
      It's a thousand dollars more but is it worth it?
      Did you get an answer?

    I like the tool post that came on it. I can index to different tools with ease. I put a washer under the top to get the handle to a different lock location. Let me know if I can help with anything. Threading is tricky on it. Good luck

    My lathe came with that same black grit, i made a couple videos on it taking it apart and some of the things i had to fix.. Your ganna like this lathe its a good tool

    • @2LateIWon
      @2LateIWon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      it must be from when they honed the cross slides and other parts.
      I'll go check your vids out. I can use all the help I can get.

    Not sure which was more painful to watch. Turning in opposite direction for which the turning tool is designed. No safety glasses! Kids so close to a machine while it's running!!

  • @mr8ballme4
    @mr8ballme4 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Man you should never run that thing with out something in the chuck. I have seen the jaws back out. I have one of these along with the Gunsmith lathe. Love them both.

      @@2LateIWon I stopped there, I couldn't stop thinking that the jaws may fly directly into your kids head. Of course if that would of happened we would not be watching this video. Machining is a lot of fun, just be safe.

  • @RVJimD
    @RVJimD 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, using the loader is cheating, you should have seen the jacking around I had to do to get mine on the bench! I used a goofy hitch mount motor hoist and did it alone cause I wanted to get it up and running. I think you will like it, I like mine. Have fun, be safe. Jim

      LOL Yeah the leak in the hydraulics made it more interesting than I wanted

  • @warrantyvoid100
    @warrantyvoid100 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I assume you already watch Tom Lipton, Mr Pete, Adam Booth, Clickspring channels for machining? Get yourself some high speed steel tool bits to play with, it's cheap, not hard to sharpen, very versatile and takes less tool-pressure to cut with than carbide.Carbide inserts are convenient but you'll never regret buying twenty bucks worth of HSS and spending a couple of hours learning to grind it nicely. The material you are working with makes a huge difference too, some Steels just don't like to turn.

    • @2LateIWon
      @2LateIWon  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes and several other Im also thinking about buying Mr Tom Lipton's books as well. Thanks for the info

    • @warrantyvoid100
      @warrantyvoid100 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom's 2 books are very similar, I recommend the "Metalwork, doing it better" edition.
      He never responded to my suggestion that he release a 3rd edition called "Metalwork, you're doing it wrong"

    nice looking lathe .please,please,please, do not leave the chuck key in the chuck like that . if you do and accidentally turn the lathe on you could kill someone . NEVER LEAVE A CHUCK KEY IN THE CHUCK.

    • @2LateIWon
      @2LateIWon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL you are correct. Ive caught myself leaving it in there. Ive never turned it on with it in there. But to get myself out of the habit. I drill a hole in the bottom of the chuck key and put a spring in it. So it will not stay in there. Its a PAIN IN THE BUTT but until I break my habit of leaving it in there. Ill have to deal with that. Its better than the alternative of forgetting and turning it on.

    Jesus, guys! I have a fused spine & have been through two major back surgeries & I still would have just told the kid in the yellow shirt to take off his purse & help me lift the thing. It's under 200 lbs. Would have been much simpler in my opinion.

    • @christurnblom4825
      @christurnblom4825 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh.. my bad I didn't notice the gearbox. probably 350 bounds or something. carry on.

    • @christurnblom4825
      @christurnblom4825 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah. looked it up. It up. sorry 'bout that. it looked like one I saw the other day & thought it was the same one just 8" longer. Dead lifting 450lbs is no fun. ...might not have had my 2nd surgery had I stayed away from loads like that. lol

    • @2LateIWon
      @2LateIWon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Turnblom yeah 200lbs is heavy but i could handle that. 450lbs not so much. i just moved a 1000lb gun safe with just a friend and I. Fortunately it stayed on the ground lol

    • @FrustratedBaboon
      @FrustratedBaboon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      450lbs not 200. Even 200 cannot be easily picked and not good for growing little kids to loose bone from a socket.

  • @FrustratedBaboon

    Why it blue display and brown ? Isn't it suppose to be green and red ?

    • @2LateIWon
      @2LateIWon  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      FrustratedBaboon mine was blue I didn't change that. But yes i did paint the green to a brown. I didn't like that grizzly green. I just thought the brown looked alot better

    • @FrustratedBaboon
      @FrustratedBaboon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha ha ha ah. I hate the green too. My 6 yr old son loves green. So we will see. I just ordered it few minutes ago watching your video. I also got sick of the Harbor Freight Mini 7x10

    • @FrustratedBaboon
      @FrustratedBaboon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got mine last week and it was new. I am not happy with the compound slide gib strip was not machined properly and jammed in.

    The "black" could be molybdenum in the grease they used but you have to be smart enough to call tech support and ask.
