One of the coolest features (at least IMO) of being monitized is you can have a "merch shelf" under your videos where you can sell your own products. I've seen a few youtubers with this. I think it would be a great feature for those of us that make our own stuff. You also need 4000 hrs/365 days of watch time to get monitized.
Hey Mike, why not apply for the Afinia Label L801? Its about 8k from what i saw on some sites and its super fast. I know you watch Derek from "print shop talk" youtube video because that's how i found you from a comment you left. The roland , from what i hear, is 4 to 6k, so just get financing for the afinia and you'll be rocking and rolling bro.
Great question & yes, I do watch Derek. I already have the Epson C6500 for making labels & it works great. I can currently produce way more labels than I have clients for, so there is no reason to upgrade at the moment. I went down a bad road for the sticker side of the business & tried to use BOPP for those stickers but it’s simply not the same as true vinyl. BOPP has a water based adhesive that will loosen up when wet. The edges start to lift off after it’s been wet for a while. Also, the ink is not holding up well after sitting in the sun for a few months. I know Derek said “a sticker can be a decal and a decal can be a sticker” but my experience says differently. That’s why I’m getting the Roland, so I can make higher quality water & sun resistant stickers. The vinyl I will be using has solvent based adhesive.
My answer to this is a disgusting coating to hold dye based ink. This coating makes media expensive and sticky to the touch. It needs to be laminated to become usable and that will add to expense, time wasted and complexity of the Afinia setup. Roland can print directly to cheap vinyl and will not fade like dye based ink.
