UPDATE: Be sure to also replace the O-ring for the timing adjuster. I had a leak from the timing adjuster after this repair and it was because that o-ring was rock hard. Part 2 video is here: th-cam.com/video/PbGMI6Td3io/w-d-xo.html
I did this same gasket replace with that exact right angle screw druver for the T30, and put a 10mm bit driver in it to reach all 5 10mm bolts. Harbor Friegt about $12. You don't need any other tools. Thank you for the video.
Thank you for this video. My wife's A4 has the oil pooling up in the same area and assumed it was the valve cover gasket. Just ordered the TC gasket and the O-ring from FCP Euro. I must say you won the lottery with that stripped screw. If it was me, it would've been the lowest least-accessible screw that stripped.
Be careful when going to the mech. They will price valve cover and timing chain cover separately. 80% its only timing cover. The timing cover has to come off to get valve cover off. Some mechanics will double dip on a simple repair. Thank you for the video.
That little torx tool was perfect, almost seemed like a life saver, for it. The funny thing is, the top torx which in theory should have been easier to remove, rather than the ones at the bottom or to the sides, was a PITA!!! You sir, are the definition of a DYIer.. Well Done!!!

Hi, I have ea888gen3, I changed my pcv and I've noticed now that when I remove oil fill cap when car is at idle there is quite alot of suction (vacuum).. I was told this is normal, it shows the pcv is doing its job. Does this sound right to you as I never really noticed it b4 I changed as was sceptical of the vacuum..
@@philpots3216 it absolutely is not normal. That is a common false theory about the PCV system, there’s even a video on here of some guy who has no idea what he’s talking about saying that a lot of negative pressure (suction) is normal. PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation; it creates positive pressure not negative pressure. There shouldn’t be excessive suction, in fact with these new PCV systems on these new motors, there should be a slight positive pressure when you take the cap off, as in it should blow some air, but even a slight suction is fine. You should be able to pull the oil cap with minimal force, like a two finger feather grip. I changed my PCV a few days ago, I had A LOT of suction trying to pull the oil cap with the leaking PCV. After installing the new one, it got a lot easy to take off, barely with any grip on the cap. I'm not too worried because I still have a vacuum pump gasket leak and an upper timing chain cover leak to address and the oil cap was still lightly coming off after replacing the PCV. I don’t think the bad PCV was caused by a bad rear main seal, cause those work together and when the main seal goes bad, every new PCV you install will keep going bad. Check out this TH-cam video and a short; this one is how the oil cap test should be “AUDI 2.0T FSI Oil Cap Test PCV PRV Valve” and this is for a failed vacuum system i.e failed PCV “Failed Oil Separator on 2014 Audi A4 quattro 2.0 TFSI CPMB. Excessive Crankcase Vacuum.” Paste those titles as is.
What oil is in here anyways just your normal engine oil ? Circulating through? My covers been leaking ever since the garage did my timing chain 30,000 miles ago 🤮
I have to say, maybe. I also had that code p2187 before I did this repair! But I didn’t know if it was due to this or from PCV valve so I also replaced PCV valve the same week. Unfortunately the PCV valve on these engines cause all kinds of issues and so I replace mine every 2 to 3 years and mine was due for replacement.

I did this same fix except I replaced the cover also. That little oil leak was so annoying. Hopefully your cover isn’t warped at all. Good job.
Nice! Keep filming your future jobs, love the Audi content.
When you own an Audi, there are no shortage of things to fix and make TH-cam content 😅
@@CarsandCoding So true! 😆
@@CarsandCodingcouldn’t agree more
From experience when oil starts blowing past that gasket it could be the pcv valve going bad. The excess pressure causes the cover to expand and leak.
I last changed my pcv in 2019 so might be time for a change! 3 years sounds about right to swap out just as basic maintenance.

@@philpots3216 Mine does the same after changing the PCV. I used an OEM VW/Audi PCV. I have a 2015 A4 Avant with the third gen 1.8 TFSI

does anyone know how to change the valve cover gasket for an a4 2010 b8? all the videos i have seen one with the timing cover connected
My check engine light came on after this. Feeling restored engine power, changed PCV valve with this too. Any suggestions or concerns?
What brake cleaner do you use? Thanks
Appreciate the video, definitely tackling this soon. Did you have to drain the oil or is there no need to?
No need to drain oil. Make sure you watch part 2, you need to change the o ring also
Great video. Do you need to recheck the timing after replacing the oring. Cheers from New Zealand Brian
Hi, what is the problem I saw some oil in spark plug audi q5? thanks.
Would this be considered the cam cover sealant? Or is that something completely different
What was that spray you used at the end to clean the leaked oil? Thanks!

Thanks a lot
Could I be getting low oil pressure due to this leaking???
I wonder this too
Could leaking cover cause code P2187 (system too lean on idle) ?
