  • For Braylee, we need to know what the differences are because we approach each situation differently. We do not want to reinforce a tantrum and we do not want to make a meltdown worse for her. Everyone's experience is going to be different. #autism #weefam

    I wish my family had been able to known there was such a thing as meltdowns. It would of made my life a lot different. Thky you for sharing and teaching parents, so maybe they can help their child. My parents honestly didn't know so everthing was treated as a tantrum and was punished. Keep up the goid brave work😃

      I’m sorry to hear that you experienced that, it hurts my heart. Hopefully this can give insight to someone else out there and their child won’t have that response from their parents. I couldn’t imagine punishing Braylee for something that she can’t control, she just wouldn’t understand and it’s not fair.

      From some of the comments, you are successful in teaching -people are learning from your openness and time on your videos! It feels be up with hope and I admire the work your doing despite your own struggles and Daddy heartache when the meltdown come, having to watch the video and seeing the pain again so you can share can't be easy!. As I have said before I know I am a stranger, however - I am proud of you and your wife for being such wonderful parents.😃

    I wish I had known the difference because I had a roommate with autism (not where she fits in the spectrum) but when it got too much she would trash the place and I didn't know what to do and I left until she calmed down

    Exactly. Very good video. It is good for people that don't have children with autism to know the difference.

    This is one of your brave videos, really proud of you. I know someone who has a son with semi non verbal autism, he has meltdowns quite a bit (and tantrums) she finds the holding him down with his weighted blanket (any blanket of not available) on the sofa preferably but does work on the floor, his head out (like in bed) so it's really tight. He loves the pressure and is not really able to get his arms out to hurt himself or her. It calms him quicker than other ways and he mostly let's her do it like he kind of knows he needs the pressure. I remember you saying Braylee likes the pressure of her harness, wondering if this might work for you and Braylee. Good luck 💜❤️💜❤️

    That vacuum workout was outstanding!!! Thanks for helping with the difference between tantrum and meltdown, it would be very interesting to found out what cause her meltdowns,... I think is trying and error until you know what makes her feel that way. In my new work every little detail is value and important to understand the child behavior.

    • @TheWeeFamily
      @TheWeeFamily  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah finding the cause is important. It’s one of the harder things for us sometimes because she is nonverbal and we have no way of knowing what she’s thinking. The last few days too it started right when she woke up. Those might have been because she woke up too early and were tantrum turned meltdown. She really doesn’t have many meltdowns in general, she can go months without a single one so having a handful of them in a span of a few days isn’t normal for her.

    • @G4RA
      @G4RA 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Wee Family most of the kids where I work are non verbal and the team agrees that even the change in weather change children behavior some of them love the cold weather or rain and snow and some of them love the warmth of spring and summer sunny days... also the light that represent day and night change faster and is hard to adapt to that. I sure you guys are aware of all possible reasons but I think it might be helpful to point these out...

  • @joykittenlover9052
    @joykittenlover9052 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This makes sense! It seems very important to tell the difference so it's a good thing to know! No one would want to make a meltdown worse by treating it like a tantrum, since the thing you are trying to do is let the person live there best life and make them learn to deal with things, but not to hurt them in any way. Anyway i shut up now I know u guys already know and said all this 😂😂
    Anyway the point of this comment is it seems really difficult but even from an outside view without seeing that much I can see you all are doing your best and doing a good job and I'm sending you all the good vibes and strength to get through this hard time

  • @kayleneharris5180

    I feel your pain guys, it's so hard when you just want to take their pain away, but you don't know what to do. I made the mistake of thinking that because she hasn't had a meltdown for months that she had learnt to cope much better and maybe meltdowns wouldn't happen as intense or as often anymore, how wrong I was. I have now learnt to accept that everyday is full of surprises, both good and bad, and that's ok 💖

    • @TheWeeFamily
      @TheWeeFamily  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. We tend to forget what it can be like when it’s been a while since a meltdown. Sometimes they can seem worse just because it’s been that long since her last meltdown. We have learned that any behavior can come back at any time and we just have to stay on top of things the best we can. I feel like the more meltdowns or behaviors happen, the more adjusted we become to them. Maybe it’s because we aren’t taken off guard. Great outlook though, we do have both good and bad surprises 🙂

    Great video wee family do you think that weather can sometimes trigger aggression or meltdowns? Thanks u guys btw fancy vacuuming u did David 😂😂😂

    • @TheWeeFamily
      @TheWeeFamily  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have no way of knowing, I know I can get migraines with different weather pressure systems so maybe something like that happens to her and can trigger something? I really don’t know.

    I have Other Learning Disability (NOS) which means I have traits of autism and ADHD but Not enough to get a full diagnosis of either one....and so it’s really hard to get the proper care I needed....but I did research on ASD myself for treatments.....one thing that helps me is fidgeting with broken mechanical pencils and stuff like that. I also like headphones on my head to listen to music that calms me. I can’t take meds or anything because I have heart disease too so I can’t have stimulant drugs

    My son will go into repeat scripting and typically has nothing to do with anything we are doing. It's confusing for me and I know what's going on, have to imagine it's much more confusing to him and others unaware. It seriously reminds me of when my father stroked out, he was trying to communicate but his words and what he was trying to communicate were not the same.

    • @loristewart3086
      @loristewart3086 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I see the repeat scripting a lot also. It's like her brain is in a holding pattern.

    • @TheWeeFamily
      @TheWeeFamily  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can imagine that would be confusing. My mom had some health issues a while back and she couldn’t speak and I saw her frustration so I’m sure the kids get frustrated too.

    I have occasional rushing anger when pressured by the fact that when we have a very large number of tourists on weekends for crazy winery events, or something else. Again, it overcrowds our city, and puts stress on us residents who need a break from constant tourism every Friday through Sunday. Some extremely small cities are not suitable for tourism because everything is too close together and not enough space in between. That's why I get annoyed sometimes. If I had the cash, I would move to a larger city of 50k to 100k. That means more competition with more places to shop and more to do. Also, not everybody knows everybody's business either, also less tourism, or it would be spread out elsewhere. In the meantime, I try to cope as best as I can. I guess I'm not a small town person who like small town tourism.

    • @TheWeeFamily
      @TheWeeFamily  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I could see that being hard. When we moved to Minnesota we definitely downsized to a much smaller town (about 20k) but we don’t have the tourism piece so it’s easier. Small towns definitely aren’t ideal for tourism for reasons like the ones you stated. I hope you can move someday to relieve some of the stress!

    • @hershalbyrd7435
      @hershalbyrd7435 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I agree. Too, the trouble is the grocery stores, such as ours sometimes not having all we need after tourists have bought out huge amounts of food. This is another reason us residents are upset with the tourism. When there is something we need, it is all gone after the tourists have left. This is one of the major reasons tourism interferes with our quality of life.

    David I like your way of vacuuming 😁. Carsyn's meltdowns only happen now whenever she hears loud noises. Like after school today I had her playing outside and she was on our trampoline when a motorcycle revved it's engine and that instantly caused a sensory overload and she ran over to me to come off the trampoline she cried 😭 and I took her in the house for a little while to calm down. Her meltdowns don't last as long as braylee's. Now the tantrums with Carsyn is when she gets violent and yes I see her planning to hit or kick or even head butt me. She only gets violent with me I don't know why. But there are days I feel defeated and I ask myself if I am able to do this since I'm a single parent. But like the movie Meet The Robertsons quote says "keep moving forward"....some days are easy, some days are hard but I wouldn't change it for anything.

    • @TheWeeFamily
      @TheWeeFamily  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s really hard when it happens because of things that we can’t control. We try to keep Braylee’s headphones on hand for situations like that because we never know if we will encounter a sound that will sort of trigger her.
      The tantrum aggression are so visibly planned it’s night and day vs meltdown.
      You’re doing your best. Keep going! ❤️

    I have a odd question well more a point of view from you guys. So when I was younger we used to hear the term Red Rage a lot where people got out of control angry and didn't know what they was doing, do you think that a large number of the people suffering with this where actually Autistic and the reason we hear less about it now is that they have been diagnosed or understand about what's going on, as Autism is a much more understood thing then it was in and before the 90's.
