I just bought a Cricut Maker and I'm SO EXCITED that you mentioned how to cut quilling strips with it - thank you! In your opinion, can I use ordinary crafting cardstock - like for scrapbooking or cardmaking, or do I have to purchase this special paper?
ooooh! You have the best model yet! In my humble opinion, ordinary crafting cardstock is only appropriate for larger work, otherwise the fibers tend to separate. Test it out and you'll see right away that using a needle tool on it makes the card stock fray. However, if you want to make a larger piece, such a framed monogram, then it's quite usable and holds the longer arcs better than the standard thin quilling strips. AND then of course, I have to jump into the middle of it all and create something like this quilled bird card. It does use card stock as well as a crochet hook AND it needs your gorgeous Cricut! Watch this video and you'll see why hybrid crafters like us (quillers with cutting machines) have some new flexibility in our time honored craft! th-cam.com/video/z7KbtQYqG9w/w-d-xo.html To answer your question in another way though, I'd say pick up some scrap leftover cardstock from another project, and just twirl it around your quiling tools and you'll see right away if you like it or not, and then THAT is your true answer! :D Cecelia
Ive wanted for so long to try quilling, and your videos are great!!! thanks so much. Is there a way you can post the template for letter B again? Thanks
Welcome to quilling Maria! I hope you find as much enjoyment as I do! Thanks so much for your kind words! The letter B is part of my book, available in my Etsy shop, but you can download the letter A to give it a try here: paperzen.blogspot.com/p/quilling-letters.html No need to wait anymore - jump in! I have lots of free patterns and tutorials here: paperzen.blogspot.com/p/quilling-tutorials.html Cecelia
Thank you Beenu! The paper I’m using is Canson Mi-Tientes, which is thicker than conventional quilling paper. It’s 160 gsm in weight and I cut my own strips at 1/4 inch width using a Cricut Explore cutting machine.
Yes here is the first in this series which shows more detail: Quilling Letter A - Outline Pattern Template Uppercase On-Edge th-cam.com/video/hi2ZEn5Ikco/w-d-xo.html
Hi Magdalena, I cut my own. Here's more info: Brand: Canson, Mi-Tientes Weight: 98 lb / 160 gsm (heftier than standard quilling paper) Width: 1/4" (I cut them myself) Sheet Size: 8½ × 11” or 19 × 25” from fine art stores Amazon Affiliate Link: amzn.to/2zpVAg2
Hi Susan, yes there is a free PDF download link in the notes, leading to my blog. The template is for the uppercase letter B within 2 squares of different sizes to make a card as shown in the video. The letter B can be swapped out for any letter of the alphabet. If you are looking for the pattern measurements for the letters, they are found in my book, Quilling Letters, and again the link is in the notes. Rather than write and photograph directions, I’ve gone the extra effort of filming my techniques, which is the closest I can come to teaching in person. I hope you’re enjoying the tutorials so far.
Thank you for these videos! You are so clear and helpful! ❤
You are so welcome!
