(Michael Phelps is the only swimmer to have won the same event in four consecutive Games.). Dawn has spent a lifetime standing up for human rights, including sexual rights.
Swimming and especially diving, seem to be sports with a relatively percentage of out LGBTQ+ athletes. When I was a little kid, I liked to swim at a nearby pool because of a very handsome lifeguard.
As a 62 year old gay in a 24 year relationship, I believe that Thomas competing against biological sis females is cheating & knows that she has an unfair advantage, this is not the 'rights' that our community fought for!
My only issue is that I feel I guess jealous when the beautiful female athletes come out. The guys.. fine no problem.. although I do feel jealous about their godlike physiques. Hihi...oh I'm straight btw.
Within red states and a red congress and senate, too many gays talents have been hampered. After 25 years working for the State of WV, I know. When graduatiing from college, a director aid to me, your degree does not qualify you for further training or a better job.

I don't know if that's common misconception, but most swimmers are not in fact gay at all. Many, especially male swimmers are very much like football bros who are really homophobic and make crude remarks regards gay people. Then there's the swimmers who are also the surf bros and are a bit more laid back and relaxed, but still straight. Many had girlfriends in high school and later married women. Some became high school coaches--and still chased high school girl swimmers getting in trouble (you know which kind of trouble). Swimmers also often play water polo which is very much like soccer in the water. A bit more rough/violent though. And it takes a lot of stamina (and a certain jock weight training personality) to be a water polo player. You could tell some high school varsity water polo jocks roided even back in the early 2000s. That's not to say some swimmers were not gay, but it was a minority as with the rest of the population. It's really no different in the swim world.
