Great builder, nicely done! I've got a minty low mileage 88 Land Cruiser with the 3FE and it's a great engine but pretty gutless and the A440F tranny robs some power, so I put a turbo on mine. Hand built the whole system from manifold to down pipe and exhaust. Amazing results running only 6 psi of boost. This engine has 8.1/1 compression and honestly it runs better with some boost. 4 years running now and no issues, could never go back to stock.
I wish you could tell me what was the increase in power at wheels after turbo install? Also did you install an extra auxiliary transmission cooler? That transmission will last longer with some extra cooling.
Coming from a workshop that built competition rally winning Subaru engines, cant fault anything Bobby's doing. Dudes a pro and is super detail orientated. Keep it up mate, record keeping/build sheets are a must too
Bobby is a total pro! Nice video of an FJ engine and he's spitting out a multitude of pointers and suggestions as it's going along. I love seeing this!
Damn, where does talent like this come from? Very rare. Can't wait to see more. You can tell he likes this sh*t. I subscribed just because of this video. Well, there may have been another reason too. Doug N.
I like this guy! Glad to see someone that agrees with my dislike for putting things together with an impact driver. I started out as a diesel mechanic years ago and finished my career as a master electrician doing industrial switchgear installation and maintenance. I hated to see guys using impact drivers on electrical equipment and many times I got to go back and shutdown equipment and production processes to make repairs when things burned up due to improper torque values. Part of my job was doing infrared camera scans of operating equipment to find hot connections due to improper torque values or terminations.
Paid off my credit card 3 months ago and paid my vehicle off this past paycheck. I have been extremely frugal with my spending for the past year and will continue to be so to work on my goal of financial independence. It's a long road and arduous road, but I refuse to be a debt slave.
My biggest concern is how we are going to survive all these financial and political crises, especially the power struggle in the US. The government has really made things difficult for its citizens, and we can not just sit by and suffer the consequences of bad governance🙏
Today, I'm kicking myself for not investing in cryptocurrency. I've been scared because of my lack of regulation in the cryptocurrency market. Please, is there a way I can start now???
As a beginner, it's essential for you to have a mentor to keep you accountable. Myself, l'm guided by Lauren Rita Tracy. For years, I highly recommend her and focus on her. To be honest, I almost didn't buy the idea of letting someone handle growing my finances, but I'm so glad I did. Don't listen to skeptics; they're just mad they didn't get in early enough...
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. Cryptocurrency is not a fad. It's a revolution, and the future of money is digital. Investing in cryptocurrency is like investing in the early days of the internet. Crypto is the most important invention in the history of the world since the internet.
My dad had a 66 fj40..bullet proof engine. I drove it to college every weekend 76 - 78. Manual choke and idle throttle. Had 150k on engine, body rusted out. Dad changed the oil every 3k miles. designed this engine for longevity. Excellent job by the technician.
This great. I love it. I’m building my first engine. 350 SBC. Different animal but the concepts and the anatomy are the same. Great to see I’m doing a lot of what he’s doing but saw some new stuff I now need to make sure I do. The video you just did where your guy was troubleshooting the crank no start was great too. I wouldn’t hate it if you did more of these tutorial type videos. Good stuff. Thanks. PS: whatever you do don’t idle more than 15 seconds!!!!
This is something we have to do in Europe for the technical exam. After that we never work on engines like this. Measure the entire engine… Remove and instal pistons and camshaft… and then go to the head. The heads and blocks are usually already separated, but that’s all
Dave, think your new mechanic is going to work out great, seems really sharp, may make the rest of the mechanics feel a bit under dressed though…. Well, after seeing the end of the video, I’m guessing the white shirt, braces and bowtie were just a form of dry humor and not likely going to be regular attire, well played!
When I was 18, a neighbor who was a dealer rep for GM offered to sponsor me for a GM training program. He did body and fender work in his spare time and had restored a car that was rolled for his son. For many years growing up I had been his helper as well as that annoying kid asking him questions. The offer gave me the choice of body & fender or mechanic training. They would have paid me to train and maybe placed me in at a position with a dealership. I gave it a lot of thought and decided not to take the offer. Watching engines being assembled on Dave's Auto Center makes me think I would have loved being an engine builder. During my Silicon Valley career, I spent more than a decade programming, maintaining, and operating CNC drilling and routing machines used in PCB manufacturing.
I appreciate the use of the speed handle over an impact. Back in my early years in the trade, mid-70s, all most of us had was a 1/2" impact and I saw several engines disassembled and reassembled using their impact. My high school auto mechanics teacher taught us to feel how the bolts or nuts did their job. Speed can lead to catastrophic failures.
Alright well it's opinion time.... Sooo hopefully with editing it was just missed but I've always put cam bearings in first...I like to blow out all the lil metal shavings they leave behind after being hammered in...then test fit cam to make sure it fits well after I've insured cam fits well then I'll install all oil galley plugs most were pressed freeze plug style back then...which i just watched Dave's video on...😂 those also will leave behind metal shavings then I give the block one last good blow over with air nossle before installing main bearings...builder preference I suppose 🤷🏽 I do have a question though about the Sim Machine? Do you think it properly breaks in a cam shaft? Like just curious doesn't engine heat an load from running have play in break in? I always thought so🤔 Other then that was a great 👍 Video!! this young man was thorough and liked he didn't use any power tools Built Like The Good Ole Day!!!! 👏👏
Chiming in here on the bow tie, white shirt & suspenders. Started out here as an auto mechanic, then onto aircraft turbojet/turbofan teardown/build up, & then onto a test cell technician. Bow ties were never sported before in the trade. At the end of the day, it's not the suits, but the merit & craftsmen of the person. Nicely done!
I was technically the first view yet there were already two comments up obviously both by bots telling us how wonderful and helpful this video was I wish to God Google would stop doing that
@@oliverelliott4453 you don't think there are thousands of bot responses out there The first bot response happened within 3 seconds of posting and it said wow that is an amazing and informative video there hadn't even been time to watch the video yet The second bot response basically said the same thing just a slightly different shuffling of the words Or were you meeting something different it's sometimes hard to tell when we give it like just a sentence in a response
WELL DONE, young man!! Many good rock solid, proven techniques demonstrated! Pay no attention to the wanna be's in these comments!! From a 42 yr veteran of MANY complete engine rebuilds.....AND....CLEAN is the name of the game....again WELL DONE!
I was 22 years old when I did my first refresh of a j40 engine. In puerto Rico, they figure out that by using a Chevy camshaft, it will become a different animal

He is obviously very common sense, educated, mentored by someone like Dave...... that's why he got the job. Respect.

Very classy! Bow tie, white shirt, suspenders. Pleasure to watch from a 76 year old retired technician.
Insane building an engine with a white shirt. This guy must be bloody careful haha
13:42 😅😂
Man Dave's hardcore there's a dress code to build engines now??!! well done..
Representing MD !!!🎉
Love the pride in his work and care given. Impressive!
Thank you! Lots of Tips 👍
Great job
On the weekends, Bobby replaces hips and knees, repairs Leica cameras, and writes books on quantum physics.
This is amazing work.
Most impressed

Thanks for the commentary about those acid brushes I cringe every time I see the other builders use them for applying bearing lube
Love this channel all the way from beautiful Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️

Bro looks like he stepped out of the 1920s. Black suspenders and a bow tie?? Man, this dude is dapper as hell.
Aviation Form a Gasket works very well for cork gaskets.
A organized and clean person speaks a lot of them.
Should promote the old guy in the shop! Young bucks gotta earn his pay no matter his experience! Old guy don't sweep floo's 😅no mooo

Congrats Bobby!
13:43 i wont spoil it for anyone but this was just the cherry on top
Bob the builder , straight forward and to the point ! Nice
Awesome technique with the 1/4" extension for ring orientation!!!!
Now that’s how a engine builder should look like! Class man

Beautiful job! Please paint it black. That is the correct color.
Dry as "Gin" 🎉 great crafts man
Nice work and loved the humour
Such a beautiful engine! It's getting the attention it deserves.
Great motor. I've over 200k on my '76
But for as much as it weighs and fuel comsumed, sure outputs low power.
Congratulations on the new hire Dave. Very professional, organized, clean and very knowledgeable. 👍
bravo
Cool
Nice work Bobby , Dave must be mad a Joey.
This guy is GOOD! Great job.

I like this guy, I think he is going to be a Great new member of your team.
Hahaha i was like holy how can he keep his shirt so clean. Made me feel a little better.
But is everyone going to be rocking morning suit vibes? Come on Dave!
He's very mindful, very Demure😂
I find watching all these vlogs very therapeutic
What year are you living in looks like 1925
Love the confidence to wear a white shirt. Great video and very detail oriented!
I love the smell of diesel in the morning…It smells like victory!! 🚁

Great job. Thank you for the video.
ALL THIS DUDE NEEDED WAS A CLASSY CIGAR AND IT WOULDVE MADE THIS REBUILD 1000X MORE EPIC! GREAT VIDEO!
Torque wrench? Check. Assembly lube? Check. Bow Tie? Check:)
He is good. Just like my last post don’t jerk the wrench like the last guy
Welcome to the team
Bobby
I say Giles will they be serving wine and hors d'oeuvres during honing process.
Got a good one there; old order dude doing it right.

Where’s Joey??? Is he doing alright?
most well dressed, love the class
Cello sounds like Bach 🧐🎶
I like the bow tie.
Definitely more of him and his builds and walk through
Where’s Joey?
Dave! We need longer videos!
bow tie is the guy! that white shirt days are numbered......
I was 22 years old when I did my first refresh of a j40 engine. In puerto Rico, they figure out that by using a Chevy camshaft, it will become a different animal
During my apprenticeship at Rolls-Royce most engine builders wore a shirt and tie back in the day.
Dave in the thumbnail but not the video?
Hey Dave and the team, can we see more of valve job process
How old is this engine? 1-23-25 TH
Really,,,,is this Dave's long lost love child..😬
love bobbys outfit, clean, neat and of course classy😅
This is what he does during the off season at the Ferrari F1 shop.
wow smh,...the lack of a sense of humor in the chat is just amazing!
….the bow tie was funny….
Make sure to use OEM Toyota seals and head gaskets or you will regret it I have several of these engines they are a pleasure to work on
This Kid Know's his Shit! I like that a Younger Man is working in this Field, Especially the Younger Crowd. Not Enough of these young Men getting involved in this Trade???!!! Nice Job on that Stove Bolt SIX. Beautiful... 😎👍🏼... Congrats Bobby. Welcome to DAVE'S!!!
That dude wearing a white shirt while building an engine. I can’t eat breakfast without dripping something on my shirt.
The results will speak for themselves.
