  • Probably the most striking product at the show was Moog's 50th anniversary recreation of Keith Emerson's Moog modular system. Watch the video to learn more about how Moog did it, and to hear some vintage modular sounds. -

Is anyone capable of doing what Keith did? What a musical genius - his mind was completely informed by classical music, going back to mediaeval plainsong; he could incorporate Bach or Mussorgsky into just wild synthesizer pieces. That's a great intelligence and discipline.

Keith was a monster considering he was largely self taught. It wasn't like today where we have guys that studied at Julliard that are playing prog rock. Personally I felt his playing was a bit sloppy in a good way. But his depth went far beyond some of the other big names of his day. He threw in ragtime, jazz and classical (mostly modern classical) in his playing. Too bad he developed trouble in his right hand later in life. He was definitely one of the giants.

I can't wait to get my hands on this Masterpiece from Moog.

Can be yours for the modest price of a medium house.
The preset boards are pretty cool. That is some serious analog engineering. I wonder where they can find the matched transistor pairs that Moog used. They didn't like IC opamps back in those days.

Transistors today actually come with very good tolerances, so they no longer have to match them like they did in the 60s.
