Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater’s maven of modular madness, gives a quick run-through of the Emerson Moog Modular synthesizer. Sweetwater is proud to be chosen to sell the final unit (third of three) that Moog Music will build of this historic synthesizer.
Because it was built using only ’60s-era technology and techniques, the Emerson Moog Modular doesn’t ring out with crystal-clear digital perfection. Subtle distortions and noise of every kind assault every note, and that is the secret of the clone’s success.

I saw Emerson, Lake & Palmer live at the Isle of Wight festival in 1970. Totally groundbreaking.
A great tribute to the maestro Keith Emerson .. sadly missed but his music will live on forever x.
The idea the Emerson twiddled all those knobs, and jumped back and forth between piano, organ, the Moog, and then stabbed them all with knives is mind-blowing.
He was both a great musician and a very good showman. IMHO, there will
never be anyone like him ever again. RIP "Fingers" .
He only stabbed his L-100.

If you want one of these, you have to build it yourself. You have to build it yourself, a module at a time, to understand how it works.
It also has about 22U worth of empty cabinets.

I want to apologize to Daniel Fisher. I once left a negative comment about him, that he read and responded to. My assumption about him was 100% wrong. Daniel, you are a great man and a purest. You did not need to share this vid as only a small handfull of enthusiasts can even consider buying such a device. Your other video/gear reviews are super on point and informative. You, my man...know your sh#t but inform the viewer in the most (and this will sound silly) caring way.

I had that sloped cabinet i believe it was called 55 or something. I literally got it for a pack of beers in the late 90s. Unfortunately i later learned it was broken. It could only play one note at the time. So we eventually tossed it away, straight to junkyard area.
Same thing happened to me but with a car. It was some old Mercedes with silly doors that opened upwards and it didn't even have a backseat. Since I didn't have any money it was given to me as my first car by this old guy in the neighborhood that said he was too old to drive it anymore. Anyway, it got shitty gas mileage and didn't even have a CD-player so I scrapped it and bought an almost new KIA instead. It even has an AUX input for my Ipod! :)
I had this bottle of MacAllan scotch that indicated on the label it was bottled at sixty years of aging. I figured it had to have spoiled after sixty years. So I poured it out.
I found a system 55 at the junkyard, whilst looking for somewhere to sleep. It had a loose wire in the back of it. Connected it back and she worked a treat. Got me all inspired and shit. Practiced on it every day for 32 years. Featured on my debut album that went triple platinum in 68 countries. Now I'm rich af
Mine took up way to much space in my trailer so I traded it for a Roland System 500, I couldn't be happier

If I had that system I would have all of the empty cabinetry filled, the preset modules removed, and the blank panels either sold or brought to full working order.

that beginning part dropped my existence frame rates to 30fps
The preset box doesn't change 'routings' - you need to manually re-patch those. Also I see you used the keyboard CV calibration controls as a 'bend wheel'... OK doing that for just a demo like here, but on a gig you'd be totally avoiding touching those..!

According to Sound on Sound, it was used to play oscilloscope waveforms as well as porn movies. Keith wanted to be cheeky.
Daniel please how was processed the signal after the synth?
Hi Alberto, there was no processing after the synth. What you're hearing is the built-in 905 REVERBRATION module that uses three 6" springs. Thanks for watching!

The second sequencer sounds just like an Atari punk console. Lol. The most expensive synth sounds just like the cheapest. No, it's really cool but I doubt I'll ever be able to afford it.

You would think that something that massive and complicated (and expensive) would create sounds that are so beyond a fixed architecture synth. But, based on the video, it really doesn't. I can easily create sounds like this on my regular ole synths.
Hi deroden, you can create endless varieties and complexities of sounds on it (until the heat death of the Universe...). But, as I mentioned, I was not allowed to re-patch or even tweak the knobs (other than fine tuning the oscillators) due to a live performance demo happening right after. Thanks for watching!
Oh no, are you one of those idiots on GS that kept saying in the "why didn't you go modular" thread that there was no reason to go modular if all the sounds you'd use could already be made with a fixed architecture synthesizer?
I hope not. Anyway, the counter-argument is always the same one: you've got many, many more possibilities of creating the sound you want on a modular, cause you can build your own system and patch it your own way. AND the point of modular is not making different sounds (after all, was the point of fixed architecture synths to make different sounds from a modular system?) no it's not about that, it's about creating sounds differently. They really just are different instruments.
One of the "dirty little secrets" about Keith Emerson is, he basically used a voice structure very similar to a Mini-moog most of the time. He generally used just three oscillators, a low pass filter, etc. Mind you, his original modular synth wasn't like this. The original synth that he used on the first ELP album was basically a slightly souped up I-C, with a custom preset box (which originally sat on top of the synth). If you watch either the Pictures At An Exhibition film (which was shot a few weeks after the first album came out) or the Beat Club video, you can see what I'm talking about. It was only as time went on that he added all the other stuff, e.g. the sequencers, more oscillator the more elaborate preset system, and so on, basically turning it into a souped III-C. But yes, you can do a lot of thing son this and most modular synths that you can't do on a pre-patched synth (at least, not the ones that were around in the 70's). You can have more flexible filter setups, things like ring modulation, wave shaping, virtually infinite modulation possibilities, etc. You can also patch any signal path you want, so you can do stuff like patching an oscillator into reverb into the filter, instead of having the filter first. And these days, there's so many makes of modular gear, you can mix and match and create any combination of modules you want, instead of buying someone else's idea of what should be in a synth.
Yeah... because you can show every sound possible on a synth of this size in a short video clip 🤦
I believe this cruft can be replaced with 10,000 lines of Python code, and then recycled as scrap metal.
As a minimalist, owning something like this is my nightmare.
Just for the sounds i heard in this video, it can be easily replaced by 1500$ of eurorack modules.
But that would be without the 2 big names on it.
As a minimalist, you shouldn’t be using synths at all. Sounds of nature, sounds of a house, sounds of ice in a tumbler, water running, water spraying, a flushing toilet, a squeaky hinge - if you are serious, all you need is a good mic or two.

Such a great machine. But it is not tuned even to one octave, not to mention two or more. Just don't say that it should be so. So far, I've only seen a demonstration of the instability of the oscillators and an attempt to paint over it all with reverb (as you know, with processing and a doorbell sounds magical). Like only for the overall look.
