Meanwhile, a galley loaded with slaves coming over the Black Sea is heading towards Istanbul. The hottest of the slaves is not yet aware that he is on a journey that will change his destiny. He is rebelling helplessly to return.
Sultan Süleyman wants to show what kind of sultan he is by the commands he gave on the first day of his sultanate. But not everyone will like these decisions. Sultan Süleyman does not hesitate to challenge all of Europe with the messages he sends.
Alex, despite all his rebellion, is brought to the Topkapi palace. His attitude attracted the attention of Valide Sultan from the first moment. I genuinely feel sorry for Mustafa. He had no skin in this. He was dragged into the crossfire.
His mother brought him up to think he was the future king, which was wrong, therefore he was brainwashed from the beginning.

@@xianxiannn removing the fratricide law isn’t as simple as saying ABC even in historical context it literally took 4 sultans for the fratricide law to go out of existence because being the sultan doesn’t mean you get to do whatever you want.
Murad III who was Suleimans grandson refused to sit the throne for 9 days because he did not want to kill his baby brothers and this wasn’t because he was close to them but because they were literal children, but was pressured by his mother and other Pashas to avoid another interregnum and possible deposition hence why the law existed.
So if you think that Mustafa wouldn’t have killed his brothers you’re going to be disappointed because whether he wants to or not is irrelevant because he would’ve been forced to under the right conditions no matter how much he loved his brothers eventually and Hürrem understood that. It was Mustafa or all 4 of her sons so she really can’t be blamed.

When Suleiman has moments of clarity like this I wonder whether he is truly aware of Hurrem's duplicity and just shrugs it off, or if he believes she's unassuming and innocent all the other times

This is the difference between Mahi and Hurrem. When he ask Mahi to apologise she did it immediately bcoz she respect Sulaiman but Hurrem argued a lot. She thought she is above all. But today Sulaiman show her place. Poor snake wrong timing 😆😂

I think people love Hurrem because they remember the things Mahidevran and Valide have done to her in the past. The beating, being thrown in the dungeon, almost marrying her off to a Pasha, stealing her ring, accusing her of killing Aysa, being sent into exile and poisoning her while pregnant. All of these things while protecting Mahidevran who has caused most of these problems and gets away with it.
The actress playing Mahidevran is more beautiful..

I watched this serial not once but twice. I’ve read a lot of history about the Ottoman Empire. And so I know Sultan Suleiman had no other woman other than Mahidevran then Hurrem who he married. Nobody knows what daily life was like in the palace during Suleimans reign. What you saw on screen was made up by film makers. But in saying all that I enjoyed the series very much. I felt all actors did an awesome job in making their parts seem all so real. My favourite actor was for sure Suleiman.

It wasn’t about a conflict for the sultan’s sympathies between siblings, like Mustafa vs her son Mehmet for example, that I would’ve understood, but between her and Mustafa...It was this particular situation/scene that I was referring to. I don't know what those who condemn Hurrem expected her to do other than protect herself and the lives of her children. Y'all are mad that she got rid of Ibrahim, Mahidveran and Mustafa. But what did u expect her to do? Just sit down and fold her arms and watch the eventual slaughter of her children, should Mustafa had taken the throne? Having said that, no one hated her since the beginning coz she's the lead charachter so it's tough to hate anyone who's the protagonist from the shows view. People only got angry due to her brutality towards Mustafa.

The ONLY way to protect her children from certain death was to usurp Mustafa. Until, in history, Hurrems son ascended the throne and he was the first Sultan in a LONG time to NOT kill is brothers.

I don't want to pass judgment so quickly. What had happened before? Was that about the scene in which Mahidvran insults her and Hurrem gets up and tells her it's enough and Mustafa arrives and insults her further? Was that the scene when Valide sultan and young Mihrimah were present?
If so, Mustafa was definitely in the wrong because he shouts at Hurrem before he knew what was going on and blindly took his mother's side.

I agree with you. Suleman should have asked Hurrem if Mustafa had heard everything that was said before interfering in a conversation he knew nothing about. Mustafa had heard nothing but lies about Hurrem his whole young life, from his non stop whiny mother. He showed up after Hurrem finally had enough & she snapped, like anyone would have in her position.
