FIX THE DEFENSE
I don’t think Ullmark is THAT great of a goalie- granted he is better than what we currently have. He is playing good with that level of defense in front of him AND a healthy competition with Swayman. IE- look back at Ned with Carolina. Exact same situation- great looking goalie, good defense. Goes to new team and barely stops a beach ball. Look back at Ullmark when he was in Buffalo, he was not any better than our current goalies.
What stats are you looking at? He had multiple seasons with Buffalo in which he had save pct’s higher than .915 and his worst mark with Buffalo was .905. Blows Husso out of the water and matches Lyon with his worst season in Buffalo. This is all before we mention the vezina season of .938 save pct that you just totally discounted because he has a good team in front of him. The idea that he isn’t a significant upgrade over what we have is laughable. Just tell me you don’t know hockey if you’re comparing Ullmark to Nedeljkovic
@@wyattbarnes9641ya our goalies are trash. I'm assuming Boston would probably want 1 of our top 2 goalies which are 5 and 6 overall in our #1 ranked prospect pool. I would not trade Cossa so that leaves Augustine.
We definitely need an upgrade cost is the concern along with blocking Cossa which is why I ultimately don't think they do it.
@@florida1289 Bruins have a young elite goalie already. I feel like they could let Swayman be their work horse and start 50+ games per year. They may not be looking for one of those goalies so I think it should be something that’s heavily considered if the price is right. Those 2 goalies won’t be ready for a while and we can have a great veteran goalie until that time and still be in a position for our team to continue growing with good goaltending, a weakness of our team right now.
Getting Ullmark would make you playoff contenders . People who mock Ullmark and say it was Boston are wrong . Ullmark was amazing in Buffalo and Boston. He was also better than swayman after the trade deadline. Unfortunately swayman got hot

To be honest I think New Jersey will get LU. If the reports are true that New Jersey is willing to trade the 9th overall pick for a goalie. I think a Boston trade makes a lot of sense. Boston is an aging team so they get a great young prospect and they make cap room to give JS a big pay day. New Jersey gets an amazing goalie in LU. It’s a win, win trade imo.

Seeing as they just gave you a first and forth in the last trade for a rental. My guess is it would cost a ton.
So I mean the better question is, and the Rangers are going to have to deal with this shortly with Shesterkin. What makes more sense? Spending 12m on two goalies like what Boston might be doing. Or spending 12m on one goalie like they are probably going to have to do. As I see 5 for Ullmark, and 7 for Swayman isn't a problem. The problem is if Swayman wants to be paid as a top 5 active goalie. If he thinks he deserves 8+ then it gets harder to justify. Frankly if he wants 8+ it's not Ullmark I'd be looking to move. You don't pay a guy as a top 5 goalie when he hasn't won anything.
As far as last year Swayman wanted 4.8m for 5 years the Bruins wanted a show me contract of 2 years 2m. It went to arbitration and the settlement was 3.475 and since Swayman brought it to Arbitration they had the option of 1 or 2 years. They allowed Swayman to choose. Why I have no idea. But yeah that's why you are doing this again already. He's still an RFA he still has arbitration rights but the Bruins only are obligated to give him a 10% raise. It very well might go to arbitration again and I think Swayman would be unhappy again because I think the arbitration award would only likely be 6m. Oettinger only making 4 hurts him. His team mate Ullmark only making 5 hurts him. It's pretty hard to justify him making way way more than those guys. So the Bruins could force it and they wouldn't have to honor him wanting 1 year. They could force it to be 2. That's an option. I don't think anyone wants that option but it's an option.
Ullmark right now is a huge boon to Boston in negotiating with Swayman. If you trade Ullmark then the team doesn't have that leverage. You cannot trade Ullmark until the Swayman deal is done if you don't want that situation to go sideways. Imagine you trade Ullmark and then you still can't get a deal done with Swayman. It goes to arbitration and he's bitter about it. Now you don't have any long term solutions and Swayman might choose to walk.
I say spending 12 on two goalies. You never know what can happen - injuries, etc. Spread the wealth for insurance
We definitely need an upgrade at goalie but I guess I just completely believe in Cossa. + we have Augustine as a just in case. Both are top 6 prospects in our #1 prospect pool.
I know some believe Cossa is a ling way away but hes not... especially if you think hes going to be a great NHL goalie which I do. I dont want to block him with a high priced goalie that we have to play no matter what.
You guys need to look into goalie trade Conner Ingram from Utah. Yzerman drafted him while in Tampa

You know what - this isn't a bad idea. Cheap contract, has been above .900 the last 3 seasons and did so on a bad team. Questions are if Utah would make that trade and how much would they want for him..
Ullmark isnt getting 9 mil guys. He got sat behind swayman this year and didnt see the ice in playoffs. Vezina doesnt put him in the same caliber of goalie near helly and bob. 7 mil is WAY closer to the ballpark

If you have a team that coaches and plays solid defense add an elite or more than.one top 4 defenseman on your roster and it always makes the goalie look better

here's what I took from this podcast....the bruins may or may not trade ullmark, and it would cost the wings something good. I'm not sure these guys ever actually say anything of substance. how about actually going out on a limb and proposing a trade. or looping in the locked on bruins podcaster to work out a trade idea.
Ullmark was close to being traded already. Whether that was the GM moving pieces or Ullmark wanting a bigger role in net. If he's been close to trade once, it can happen again. Detroit needs a #1 goalie badly. Yzerman has a history of stealing players and a boatload of prospects to help Boston. It's possible.
