  • Detached Blanket stitch is also quite often known as Detached Buttonhole Stitch too.
    This tutorial will show you how easy it is to use make this stitch and use it to create the calyx of a dandelion flower. Also I'm showing how to stitch it flat as well.
    Use it for flower petals, calyxes and beautiful edgings too...

    Dear Marion, Sharon here (magnetic pins). As you know a little of my story I just wanted you to know my journey with my mum who was 96 with dementia ended on Wednesday, peacefully at home with us. I just wanted to thank you as mum and I watched your videos all the time, and your calming voice I know helped mum to rest and have quiet time as well as teaching me new skills along the way. Your presence in our lives was more profound than you can imagine. I will still be watching and you will no doubt teach me much more in my journey ahead. So thank you from the bottom of my heart. Xxxx

      I think you'll not be knowing what to do with yourself at the moment..
      If you feel it would be of any help please message me via Instagram..you can send a private message on there.

    I will have to give this a go. I did just blanket stitch around the edge of a little felt monster that made, I then crocheted around the edge of the blanket stitch to see how it looked. I am looking for ideas to upcycle a thrifted man’s sweater to make it into a casual cardigan for myself. I have cut it open and cut the sleeves to length. So now I want to edge it. Still pondering ……

    • @marionsworld24
      @marionsworld24  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Oh I did something similar with a thrifted woolen dress. I cut it right up the centre front and blanket stitched around with some colourful yarn and a bit of embroidery. I wear it often.... Good luck with your transformation...

    Thank you so much for this tutorial Marion. You make learning such a pleasure. I had to do this stitch in highschool home ec.The teacher was not kind. We used this stitch for making eyelets for hook and eye closers on our clothing. Woe betide the student who bungled a stitch in her class. I was glad I grew up in a household where my mother and both grandmothers were stitchers. Thus I was spared the dragons wrath. I learned to love sewing years before I had to endure this women. I know she discouraged many a young lady who would otherwise have enjoyed it. Thank you again for bringing us such a joy in stitches. 😊❤

      I always wondered what made her so unhappy? She was so knowlegeable that I took every class she taught, tho it was sometimes a trial. She taught advanced sewing and tailoring as well as pattern making and design. Because of her I was able to go on to have my own successful business, which I have long since retired from. In all fairness I think she may have felt that her talents were wasted on unruly teenage girls, and she may have had other dreams besides teaching in a small country school. I am sorry for calling her a dragon, it was not kind of me. Besides, like you I love dragon's. ❤️

    Thank you Marion for the video and demonstrating this stitch close up for us. I can see so many uses for this stitch and it looks so complicated when completed but simple to execute. I was up so early this morning, it was still dark. Stitching away to myself. Weather looks promising so I hope we both have a lovely day in the garden.

      Thanks Carol. Stitches can look so complicated it's easy to dismiss them and choose a different one that you already know. But usually, when you just do it step by step, each part isn't that hard at all.

It would be lovely to stitch some poppies using it if I could work that out- because of the way the poppies begin to burst out of the pod. I appreciate your skill and all you so kindly share . Thanks Lesley.. it would definitely work for the base of a poppy.. especially the seed pod. I'd cut it a little slip of felt as a pattern and stitch it down with a scrap of stuffing underneath. Then make detached blanket stitch over the top....🤔

    It occurred to me that the flat blanket stitch you demonstrated would work wonderfully as a tiny pocket on a dolls dress if you stitched the bottom closed. This will work perfectly for a little dress I have been wanting to make for one of my childhood dolls. Does anyone remember the Crissy dolls from the 1970s, that you turned a knob on their backs to make their hair grow? I think this stitch on some clothes for her would help give it that retro 70s vibe. 😊

    • @marionsworld24

      My dad bought me Crissy's friend Kerry when I was about 10, at a church rummage auction for 5 dollars. I have cherished her every since. I still have her original clothes and shoes. The church lady that sold her had made extra outfits for her, which I also have. This lady was a fine seamstress, and made all her own clothes. I was a tomboy type girl, who didn't like dolls, but the fine tailoring of those doll clothes and that ladies talents really made me think about how clothes were made for the first time. I credit her for my initial interest in clothing design. My mom and grandmothers both sewed, but it was mostly utility quilts for charity, as well as some embroidery. Mom had 7 kids so there wasn't much time for fancy stitching. The hilarious stories I could tell of my moms attempts at sewing clothing would make you laugh. I mean no disrespect either. My mom is still living, she is 88. She would be the first to agree that she just couldn't ever seem to get the hang of it. I think she just needed your video's. 😊

    Good! Someone who knows blanket and button hole are different, yay! There are reasons they're different -- blanket has a smooth top, to avoid chafing, button hole has a knotted top, to withstand multiple passes of the button through the hole. But I've been assured I'm wrong on this by North American stitchers. Oh well. I learned all this in school. Great teaching in textile arts and dress making, in North Yorkshire.

    • @marionsworld24
