As I live in Birmingham, this film is if nothing else an interesting snapshot of how the city used to be back then.

As a fan of Cliff Richard, you should get a DVD copy of the movie. It's one of Cliff's best performance on the big screen. Meanwhile watch my other postings from the same movie.

I have this on DVD which was free with the daily mail a while back, also have most of his other films the same way. love to see the old Birmingham I used to go every Saturday with my sister shopping then something to eat, before they started to run it down and then knock it down to build what we have today, sadly not that Birmingham didn't need a good town just that they took it to far and took out the community with it.

I have always liked Birmingham but why does the second city have so few films? I looked up 'films set in Birmingham' and all that came up was this, some stupid vampire film and a few gritty crime things. Birmingham has never really had a film that stands out- Felecias Journey was probably the best but for a city of over 1 million, its quite disappointing how little Brum has been in films. Manchester and Liverpool have had more and they are smaller cities....

I've just looked up Gas Street on Google Street View. Only in Birmingham could they pull down the beautiful church just behind Cliff when he turns into Gas Street, but the glass monstrosity to his right (as he walks down the road) is still there!

Well, this is really something interesting .... thanks for the info. I shall look it up on Google Street View as well. I'm sure there are lots of changes in Birmingham. We are talking about 40 years ago. I remember going to The Bullring in the 80's and that is still there today. Cheers.

I'm not a lover of Cliff (sorry!) And i don't like Brum (Sorry again as I am a Brummie.) Love this film and got the CD soundtrack but sadly the film is still only available on VHS and the copies available are beginning to ask for quite a few pennies now.

Marvelous - Birmingham has been steadily improving in the last thirty years and looks better than ever now. Fantastic to see the Central Library in pristine condition. Pity it's going.

The demographics in Birmingham city centre have changed drastically over the years from the time the movie was made in 1973. I got on a bus for the first time in 27 years i honestly never noticed anything out the ordinary until i realized a wall of sound of mostly foreign languages was all around me so i am sitting there thinking to myself, is this what integration is about ? when my parents came to England there was not many of us, because of this we felt obliged to fit in and learn the language i feel the current immigration have been far too large so people tend to stick to their own customs giving them little or no encouragement to communicate in english . i can't see a solution because we cant force people to learn English never mind to speak English.

As someone in their mid 20s who grew up in central Birmingham and has lived here for all my life so far, I've never found people speaking other languages in any way a bad thing. I don't see what the problem is. The majority of the people who you hear speaking other languages are bilingual and speak english as either a first or second language. They can speak more languages than almost all of us 'native' brits. They're allowed to speak in languages other than English when with their family/friends and it shouldn't be an issue for you. I'm sure if your average English person moved to, let's say spain for example. They might learn Spanish. But I bet you they'd still speak in English when with their English friends and family. Who cares. Around 2% of the population can't speak English. It's not a big deal.

@@BattlesCinematics I was not saying people should be forced by law to speak English I was just making an observation after noticing the big difference after not using public transport in 27 years. I blame this on far too much immigration into the country. its just natural people just wont feel the need to speak English if they hardly venture out their communities.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts ....
