The problem Trek has with alien races is that it treats them as monocultures. Entire planets with a single culture? Every Klingon is the same? Every Betazoid has the same cultural heritage? Even the human splinter faction, the Maquis, are treated as traitors and worthy of disgust, and the script writers have no trouble killing them off by the millions. Trek is obsessed with racial purity, which is just one of many reasons why it is a silly premise for a show and should be treated as the musings of the racist who created it in the first place. Don't believe me about Trek's need for racial purity? Tell me how a self-described half-breed like Spock is treated on his world, or how Worf views himself having been raised by humans, or determines his child's worthiness for having been born one-quarter human, or B'lanna's existential angst whenever her being not fully anything comes up when her and Tom are trying to get pregnant, or how the Borg view every other race, or how the Founders view themselves as racially pure and every other race worthy of conquest, or Species 8472, or how Cardassia and Bajor view the other worthy of genocide, and on and on.
