    Hey Everybody! Today Paulo Runs Through "Rahdo's Goofs"
    If you find Goofs I didn’t notice Please leave Timestamps :)
    Thank You
    20:08 Not true... Anton has 3 "prohibited" symbols on him, so he can't perform the Afternoon Action!
    22:40 Again, Anton has 3 "prohibited" symbols on him, so he couldn't do an Action at this point
    24:36 Richard doesn't know how to upgrade... he just went from having 12 Wood and when he finds another one instead of having 13 he will end up with 11 due to "upgrading"
    29:04 Obviously this is wrong... you have to do this for every character and since Richard choose not to feed anyone that means that each character would have their Hunger level raised by 1

    Top runthrough, I just discovered the video game a few days ago and have been really enjoying it but, of course, a board game would be way more fun!
    It seems to capture the same feelings as 'Robinson Crusoe Adventures on the Cursed Island' which is one of my all time favourites.
    Getting these previews done by you and the other board game TH-camrs is ABSOLUTELY essential in my opinion, I'd probably have never discovered this game otherwise and I suspect I'm exactly the target audience for it!
    Thanks Richard :)

    Not familiar with the source material so mistook this for a war version of Dead Of Winter, didn't think I needed to double up on that theme so took a pass. Glad you had this up, after watching a bit I can see that this might strike a chord with our group.
    We get Android to the table a couple times a year and it generates some amazing stories, Robinson Crusoe gets love as well, I think this would see some table time. Going to watch the rest and see where you take it!

    i think these type of game needs a group of really commited players to make it an unforgettable experience. i, for one am really intrigued to play this game even though it would take 2+ hours for a sibgle campaign.

    Holy cow this looks faithful. Pretty interested in this now, given that I think the original video game was amazing in its own way.
    Given the structure of play, would you rank it highly on your solo games list that you did recently?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +artcellrox yeah, i think so. it takes probably at least 6 or 7 hours to finish a full campaign, but the built in save system that lets you break it down into 40 min chunks is great

    • @artcellrox
      @artcellrox 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That long for a full campaign... it sounds pretty extensive for a board game, but I think that's about as long as a full run in the original too. Thanks for the answer though, really excited for this one!

    • @TheBrothergreen
      @TheBrothergreen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rahdo every game has a save system, it's called get up, walk away and come back. I don't get why you seem to think that a pair of cheap plastic baggies (and presumably some kind of score sheet) is such an amazing innovation. It's not like you can restore an old save to, for instance day 3 of your last campaign if you wanted a slightly shorter playthrough in your next campaign*
      * well, actually, you could, theoretically. #paper.

    Hi Rahdo, I have really enjoyed playing the video game. And in the video game, there;s this concept of time where characters do different things AT THE SAME TIME but only one person at a location at that time. Do you think this variant can eliminate the chance of having alpha player and makes a better multi-player experience game ? Would love to here your input and see if it is a good suggestion to voice it to the designer

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tsun On LAU the problem is, sometimes the actions/choices you make in wom:tbg are deep and take awhile, sometimes they're really quick simple things. there's a huge variance from moment to moment throughout the game. so i think the boardgame's approach of splitting decisions amongst all players equally is the best way to go...

    • @TheBrothergreen
      @TheBrothergreen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tsun On LAU No. I think that type of gameplay would destroy a lot of depth and richness from the game.

    Hi Richard, I'd like your opinion on the replay-ability of this game. It's keeping me on the fence. Thank you! :)

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Ren Lim i would say it's as replayable as a typical ameritrash style game?

    • @TheBrothergreen
      @TheBrothergreen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ren Lim Every game will be 100% unique, but it looks like you'll run through most/all of the common decks cards at least 4x. I think the story-telling element, at least for me, would mandate at least a one or two dozen playthroughs, since you aren't likely to encounter the same 18+ reality check events per game (out of a pool of over 1000, and even if you do, the way your characters react, the event's meaning within the game narrative will be completely different), however, due to the weight (6+ hrs, somewhat grindy, dark mood) i highly doubt I would personally choose to play it except on special occasions.... or, to put it another way, replayablility is high, but would you actually replay it?

    • @renlim8761
      @renlim8761 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheBrothergreen Thank you for the detailed advice. I was indeed wondering about that 1000 combinations of the story and if they might be too similar in the end especially once you know what choices might lead to what consequences.
      Do you think that the stories will be "different enough" in a sense that it still engages players?
      Wait, why do you say 6+hrs? I think it states 45-120+min on the game box, so perhaps 3hrs at most?
      I like that this is a very "humanistic" game and if it can achieve what it sets out to (make players not just decide about the best choice, but actually tie in moral importance) , [if] combined with a different-enough story every time you play, I think I'd get it.

    • @TheBrothergreen
      @TheBrothergreen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ren Lim
      Honestly, based on this, 6hrs seems conservative. A solo player playing the game as solitaire might have a different experience.
      1) *Rhado said during the play through that he thinks it would take 7-8 hours.*
      2) *During this runthrough of a single day* (there are 7 days per game) *Rhado struggled to keep it under a 60 minute threshold* (14 minutes +48 minutes extended) while knowing the game pretty well. He cut short the exploration phase, didn't need to perform combat or looting, etc and didn't explore the basement even though he could have, due to time. yes, granted, he was teaching, but I don't think the pre-turn/post turn discussion period would be markedly shorter. His method of play is very much "i need to do this, this, and this; I also want to do this, and this; here, let me double check that i can't do something else, no, okay, well, I think I'm going to do this. imo, this was a realistic example of how the game would have progressed in a real "watch it played" style runthrough aswell.
      3) it seems likely that *you will spend at least 5 minutes per round* (2-3 _read actions_) *searching for and reading story material*. That is a minimum of *35 minutes* of "pause time" per game not counting the journal passing, and other pause-time related to gameplay.
      4) the game itself is broken up into 14 phases. 7 "days" and 7 "nights." each night is further broken up into a "scavenging" phase and a marauder/visitor phase, for a total of 21 "phases." *120 minutes for 21 phases* s completely unrealistic* imho (no single phase goes past 6 minutes, no single round (day + night)goes past 18 minutes). Obviously I can't be sure, having not played the game, but these are some of the reasons that I said 6hrs.
      Yes, I think the stories will be very different, and if you are still concerned, there is a memoirs expansion on the kickstarter (for an addl 10 euro) and the multimedia story-line cellphone app for addl content... not to mention that if you back as a kickstarter backer there are AT LEAST 2 more complete expansions coming your way (*sewers* and either *scenarios* or *orphans* depending on the outcome of the current vote) to keep the game fresh.I can only guess at the quality of the epilogue mechanic, but in my experience, the epilogues aren't the be-all-end-all of replay-ability. The mechanics are solid, the game is thematic, there is TONS of material and *if the writing is good,* I think it would be immensely replayable. My biggest concerns are related to getting a group of people together for 4-8hrs (even with the save " -mechanic- " (read: plastic baggies) ) to play a game that has the emotional weight of a schindler's list/sophie's choice/ the pianist super-drama more than once. Imho, if your group can handle the emotionality of it, then they will find subsequent replays engaging and fun... or, you could throw out the RPG elements of it and JUST play it like a dungeon crawler. Explore, Arm, Fortify, Explore, Arm, Fortify, etc. Honestly, even without the stories, I think the game itself would be pretty solid (if a little too easy mode for my liking but there are ways to fix that).

      +TheBrothergreen Insightful stuff! I understand now, thank you! (starting to have a feeling my group can't take this...)

    This game looks absolutely amazing. I really liked the Journal mechanic, how do you think it would work with a 4-6 player game? would there be alot of down time?

    • @TheBrothergreen
      @TheBrothergreen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Clinton Morris Like anything, it depends primarily on who the 4-6 players are. If you are hardcore D&D gamers who enjoy emersing yourself in a narrative, I'm sure you could knock it out quite quickly. If, on the other hand you are more casual gamers (and despite the length, this isn't a really _heavy_ game) there is a lot of material here to spur conversation. Handing off the 1st player token occurs, what, 10x *per day*? Times 7 days? Pausing to roll occurs how often? Pausing to read? Pausing to do worker placement? etc, etc.

  • @TheBrothergreen
    @TheBrothergreen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    question about the rules:
    If you elect to not put someone at the door, you would presumably lose the ability to "fight off" the invading hordes, but, since the "maximum" defense is prevent 2 (wounds or thefts... and you'll probably get a zero) wouldn't it make more sense to just not guard the door at all (unless you have a vigilant night watch card)? does the game discourage or prohibit this action?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheBrothergreen you can get a lot more stolen than just two by some of the cards that hit you. but yeah, it's perfectly reasonable to not guard the door and lose a certain amount of stuff every night...

    • @TheBrothergreen
      @TheBrothergreen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rahdo yes, that was exactly my point. The mitigation is so weak that it seems wasteful to stand guard at all. why risk 5 wounds +6 thefts (which you'll take the majority of the thefts either way). Just bug-out, take your most valuable stuff with you to keep it (safe-ish). I think the night raids might be a little overpowered and/or mitigation under-powered. Obviously this should not be a primary/effective strategy as it basically negates 1/3 of the game. Now, if it was possible to negate all, or nearly all of the wounds, and reduce the number of items stolen without leaving 4 people standing watch; I think that aspect of the game could be improved, either with more event cards (so that it isn't a 50/50 chance by day 4 that you'll get bopped with something-something-muggers or by using the fate die to control the thefts so that you could (theoretically) stop the intruders before they take anything of value.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheBrothergreen the more stuff you take with you out into the night, the more you're weighed down and can't bring new stuff back :)
      otoh, someone standing watch with a good weapon can very readily mitigate home invasion. in the video i didn't have any good weapons, and arguably i shouldn't have put anyone on guard, but tbh i wanted to demonstrate the game more thoroughly...

    • @TheBrothergreen
      @TheBrothergreen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rahdo _the more stuff you take with you out into the night, the more you're weighed down and can't bring new stuff back_
      true, but the more people you bring, the more stuff you can carry in total. If you bring an extra 4 "strength" then you can carry an extra 4 goods and not impact your total haul at all. furthermore you'll be a lot tougher if you get jumped by hobos,
      _and arguably i shouldn't have put anyone on guard, but tbh i wanted to demonstrate the game more thoroughly_
      No, I think you made the correct choice, BECAUSE you had a vigilant watch that allowed you to increase your mitigation by 6 (max potential of 8.).. unless that would have triggered anyway? the professor, who could only carry 1 good anyway was doing more good at the door than he would have been scavenging. I'm speaking more about the general rules, and honestly, the rules are thematic and realistic... If a band of looters smashes down your door, one burly muscular firefighter who could be holding 45gold worth of trading fodder (not to mention a pistol) and saving it from the looters, isn't going to have much to say about it... It just sucks from a game-play pov.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +TheBrothergreen true true. but the more people you take out into the night so that they can carry stuff, the more tired people you will have inviting more sickness and less work being done during the day, the greater chance they'll see horrors of war that send them into despair, the more likely they are to be injured by attacks, etc.
      going out at night with a huge party to grab tons of stuff doesn't do you any good if everyone's too exhausted, sick and depressed to do any work with them during the day.
      the designer, michael oracz, has been doing this for quite awhile, and is responsible for some of the most tightly balanced asymetrical games out there (neuroshima hex and theseus), so he's no design newb. :)
      re: vigilant watch. yup, i have to admit, i forgot about that. bear in mind, i filmed this video almost a month ago, and i barely remember the specifics of what happened now :)

  • @zhhrah

    About the definition of the game: I would define it as an Anti-War game. Just like an Anti-War movie that tries not to glorify war or its participants but tries to reveal and cleanse your head from any positive image that wrongly got implemented in our brains by hollywood which makes it a different kind of entertainment. So yes, it doesnt try to give a picture of satisfaction or comfort, but it is still called entertaining.

      +rahdo true i guess, but i would have personally preferred it as it would have given me a better since of thw initial progression of the game from the start... more like how the first half an hour would be with new players.

    • @TheBrothergreen
      @TheBrothergreen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Awesome Man No, it really wouldn't have. The game's mechanics are just very grindy and wear-you-down. In the first couple of days, he scavenged, explored, acquired misery and illness (and pavlo) and had his place broken into. The only thing I think we missed out on was the "sad story" that was so scarring that it caused pavlo to abandon his home and put the other guy on the harry edge. I'm guessing it involves a pair of orphans with no shoes who froze to death and were dumpstered with their favorite broken toy truck, still huddling together for warmth. Unfortunately, this runthrough doesn't dive very deep at all into the storytelling. Richard says it's awsome, but most of what we saw was pretty generic (the hobos, the punk-kids, etc.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +The Awesome Man the first round day plays out almost exaclty like the 2nd and 3rd and 4th day, etc. Just much faster. The whole house is open for exploration, so you'll clear lots of rubble and whatnot, find some equipment, maybe make a tool depending on what you find, then you go out into the night doing the exact same sort of stuff you saw me do. The only real difference at the beginning is the entire house must be explored. i thought it was more important to demonstrate *a little* of the house exploration, but also the act of building stuff in the house. plus, dealing with tired/sick people, who you don't have at the start of the game.

    I was looking forward to see the runthrough of this game. Also learn polish, it is [sarcasm] most important [/sarcasm] language in the world.
