I think this type of video where Tenncom helps someone do a racquet transition should be a regular mini series, lots of insights on how to switch racquets here
i did this switch, try measuring your regular ezone 98 and see if you can get the swingweight/balance the same on the percept you are using, it'll allow you to do everything you do with your ezone 98 but the bigger sweetspot will help your consistency. Also try out the 2023 vcore 98, its got that free topspin you are looking for and after a month of playing with it you'll be able to do everything you can do now with your ezone 98
Treys inability to vary the speed / spin ratio on his forehand is by far because of his technique and his inability to change his swing path radically and the contact pressure when he’s hitting a ball. He is hits mainly in the moderate topspin range. He can flatten it out a bit but currently lacks the control to consistently land it in especially on low pace balls. I’ve never seen him hit a heavy topspin forehand in an actual match. No racket can give you something that a lack of technique doesn’t allow for. Enhancement yes. Magic cure, no way. It’s like that old jazz song said, “It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing.” 😂
Not sure any of those rackets do anything you need and you'd be giving up a better serving racket just so you can feel like you're swinging harder despite balls landing shorter than your EZ 98. Switching racquets frequently doesn't tend to improve anyone's game.
I’m glad I switched to PA98 last year. This frame just flies so easily through the air, I’ve never felt it with any other frame I’ve tried. Plus, it does everything good or really good.
Firstly, props to the guy going to pickup the dog poo😅…Everything Trey said he likes about the 100D and everything you said about swinging a heavier racquet giving more power with less effort is why I’ve gone back to the Speed Pro(Legend)…complete control over spin and I don’t need to customise it at all to feel perfect for me..I really liked the Extreme Tour and Pro on my whole game apart from the fact that I was swinging hard at everything and it was more taxing on my arm than a heavier racquet..adding weight to the tour changed the feel that I didn’t really like it so I haven’t bothered trying to customise the Pro since falling back in love with the Speed Pro…Apparently slightly higher launch with the 100D and more manoeuvrable than Speed Pro so I’m intrigued to try the 100D…needs a better paint job though lol..I thought he would’ve preferred the aero 98 out of those 3 considering what he was wanting to add to his game…might be too light for him stock
I agree, i chose the regular vcore 98 to get more topspin on my forehand and its working well, trey can probably handle the vcore 98 tour because he is big, it was a bit too heavy for me after a set, longer matches
@@TennCom true, this is why i have decided to play one racquet after years of buying two, the number of times i actually break a string during a tournament i can go back to my old bat for the remainder of the match. also, after becoming a racquetholic i have more budget for the next game improvement tech, 2025 has that next gen ezone coming...
Thoughts on where Trey fits into your updated philosophy about needing more power from your racquet? None of these racquets are really more powerful than an Ezone 98 (I think). Why might those have been good options for Trey?
By TennCom's own flowchart Trey would be better served by the Ezone 100 yet he was steered into a control racquet like the 100D. It just isn't consistent with TennCom's usual philosophy about racquet selection. Rec players need the added power for when their technique breaks down as they tire out.
@@TennCom That makes a lot of sense that you weren't the one recommending those racquets and that Trey had done his own evaluation of what he was looking for. I definitely think you would have chosen different racquets for him and would love to see an episode where he only tries your recommendations and then compares them to what he choose.
I am in the EXACT situation with my Ezone 98 right now. Not sure if I'll see a drastic difference, but I just got an Ezone 100 in a trade, with hope the larger head size will help with the same issue Trey is having.
i did this switch recently, the ezone 100 is your friend that makes tennis easier to play than with the ezone 98, you don't lose much other than maybe weight which you can add. note that if doesn't give you much extra topspin though so if you are looking for that try out the 2023 vcore's as well
@@The4.0Guy Honestly I think the ezone 100 would make Trey's backhand a lot more serviceable while also adding more spin and power to both his serve and forehand especially if he adds a little weight. The other good option would be the Head speed mp. IMO 100 sq in racquets are probably the smallest racquet heads that rec players should be playing with.
@@The4.0Guy Good to hear! Luca's review on the Yonex Line a couple weeks ago, along with some other posts I've seen were a huge factor I'm giving the 100 a go. The tone down in the launch compared to the 98 is what I'm looking for, although I am curious how much control I'll sacrifice doing so.
@@bn9161Yeah that's a good call especially since he is already using the ezone, should be the easiest transition. Also agree on going to 100, i always used a 98 but realized this summer what i was missing out on with the bigger sweetspot. Thing is i feel 100 sq.inch racquets have gotten a lot better, they weren't always as good control wise
@@ShortRoundActualif you have a healthy elbow and can string it a bit on the tight side control should be fine. It has a predictable string bed, not weird hot spots. Thing i really like about it is it seems like the most stable 300g frame out there, its.easy to.swing with the lighter weight but still good.for slower swings like volleys and slice
I'm looking for a new racket too, I thought about the PA98, extreme pro, Percept 100d and strike 98 or 100 16x20...choices....but right now I'm waiting for the new ezone. I love the ezone because it helps with more mph on serve and good for flat forehand s but not sure about the backhand and net play in my opinion. I used to play with the aero 100 but killed my elbow with it.
I kind of wish trey tried the RF01 300g version, just decided to commit to that myself, but there is no arguing that the PA98 isnt near perfect, just ugly to me.
@@TennCom In fairness neither is the Percept. If you watch his previously posted match play with it most of his shots don't make it past the service line and his serves drop in both levels of speed and spin. Imo he just likes that he can wind up on his shots and they still go in despite being less effective and higher in energy demand.
@@bn9161 having been on the receiving end of his ball with these different racquets I can tell that Trey has more confidence in his shot selection with the Percept. You are right, his ball is not necessarily as heavy but I think most people agree that power is not his issue right now.
@@TennCom Agree. I've recently tried to transition to a new racquet from the ezone 98 and my two cents is the percept will be the easiest move for Trey. Its got similar directional control to the ezone 98 (string pattern helps a lot) and I found the 100 sq improved my serve consistency, the bigger sweetspot really helps with that. I'd look at measuring the swingweight/balance of the percept he is using to see if he could get it identical to his current ezone. Note that I went to the 2023 vcore 98 which I think Trey should also try, it gave me much needed free net clearance and topspin on my flat forehand and is also a good serving racquet.
@@TennCom It's definitely not as heavy as with his EZ98. There are a lot of subjective aspects to racket selection so if he has more fun with the Percept then all the more power to him and that's the one he should select. I think his results will suffer a bit as it will make his serve a lot more returnable which will decrease the free points he frequently gets and it will give players he will be playing in the 4.0-4.5 range a lot of easy approach shots to put away due to lack of depth with the percept. I do think power is still an issue for him and the vast majority of rec players far more than control will ever be. Trey hits hard for his current level but there is still room for more power and spin. He's going to be neutralizing his most powerful weapons with the percept and not improving his weaknesses enough to surmount it. I also think energy expenditure will increase as he will have to swing faster throughout his entire match which will hurt him in longer matches. We'll see though. TLDR: Rec players need some power. Control frames are generally bad for them.
if you want heavy topspin just go aero 100, extreme mp or speed mp. Bigger sweet spot and more reliable to put pressure when your slightly off. 98s , extreme pro, aero 98 or vcore 98? but heavy reliable topspin? 100's for sure like extreme or aero or VCORE 100. But the IMHOI he wants easy power and reliable spin to put pressure on opponents backhands, 100s for sure.
Exactly! He should definitely add those to his demo list. I hate how he's being guided to the Percept-- a racquet that is very unsuitable to his strengths.
@@HarryManbackTwo Placement but it requires accurate ball striking and a very fast acceleration through the swing.
