  • This event, jointly hosted with the UNCCD Secretariat, followed up on discussions on rights-based land governance held at the recent UNCCD COP 15 in Abidjan. Panelists and speakers explored global agreements to advance legitimate tenure rights, take stock of the progress on implementing UNCCD Land Tenure Decisions, and charted the way forward to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality.
It contributed to this year's High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), which is tasked with tracking national progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The HLPF is an opportunity to stress the importance of securing land rights for a just transition to sustainability to key decision makers. The focus this year is on 5 SDGs: 4 (quality education), 5 (gender equality), 14 (life below water), 15 (life on land), and 17 (partnerships for the Goals).
