I love how when given the full power to control history and destiny, the first thing Liu Kang does is give Kung Lao the chance to become the legend he always strived to be. Shows how much Liu Kang _really_ cared for his best friend.
I don't think that's his friend "Kung Lao"... I think it's the elder legendary Kung Lao, and he would train him so he wouldn't lose to the 4 four armed monster in the future.

@@MericErdemBal The only thing I can think of is that whole 'chosen one' destiny background coming into play. If he was shaped by Kronika with the strength and skill specifically to win most tournaments in the series without being killed (as happens in the normal timeline up until, like... 9?) Then he's supremely skilled, and has a lot of power. The only reason he dies to Raiden is because he's a mortal fighting against a god, and even then Raiden has trouble. At the point when he fights Shang Tsung at the end, he's got a gods power, plus his own power, and Onaga's fire. And I can only imagine his own power is doubled, because his revenant, in his timeline, absorbed his own soul... so... I guess all of his effects are essentially times two.

Cary Hiroyuki Tagewa absolutely chews the scenery in every moment he can. Having him reprise Shang Tsung was the best thing Netherrealm could have done.
But with all the effort they put in to get him back in the story if Liu Kangs ending is canon he’ll be erased from history so he’ll never have existed😨.

I love how the concept of history repeating is played so well in this new timeline, with Raiden succumbing to his anger and becoming Dark Raiden, even down to the repeat of lines like Lui Kang's *"... is not the enemy this time"* or *"If you must die, so be it!"*
It's simple but smart story writing on Aftermath's behalf, despite it's other issues.

actually Fujin was told by god Liu Kang that shang tsung was gonna do all that, and they knew shang tsung was the only one who could beat kronika, I admit this strategy is a big pile of shit, but it is the story.
It is so satisfying to see Shang Tsung being the top dog than the lapdog, begging for mercy of Shao Khan like he was in past games. Seeing him taking the souls of Sindel and Shao Khan is the greatest moment in the history of MK. Being voiced and using the face of Cary Tagawa makes it the most satisfying.

That isn’t even true. Shao Kahn was a clever tactician and deceiver in the original timeline. The assassination of Onaga, the long-term plans to conquer other realms, and having the foresight to have a clone made of himself with the advent of the Deadly Alliance; which ended up being killed by Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, proving him right. It just so happened that he also had the muscles and ego to match his status as one of the deadliest threats in all the realms, and as the man who conquered countless realms. He is not just a simple-minded brute.

With Cary returning as Shang Tsung, its impossible to see anyone else as a true final boss in this game. He towers over Shao Kahn’s presence 10 fold and the performancd is undeniably superb.
This isn’t even nostalgia, this is the definitive Shang Tsung, and the most entertaining character in the story by far. You love to hate him, and I love every big of it

I love how aftermath ends with how the first mortal kombat ends, lui kang vs. Shang sung. It’s easily able to tell that that good ending is the true ending tho.

I actually really liked the twist that Liu Kang let Shang Tsung win to get the crown.
Pay more attention to the details.
He tells Fujin how the events will turn out and to play along with it. Notice how he keeps using the Hourglass for quite awhile after Tsung explained why he should stop. Liu was double-checking Tsung's claims, and then asked Fujin to ensure Tsung's success.
Hence the lie about Liu Kang having to stay behind and his smirk at Tsung's "You let me win."

Should have watched Injustice gods among us and injustice 2. They are also made by Netherrealm Studios. They make great story modes like a story worthy of a movie.

Most fictional hero and villain characters don’t have a great home life or has a tragic, relatable backstory that makes them the way they are. They always have to have a problem.
