I think a huge misconception of MJ is that he was ashamed of his blackness. Nothing could be further from the truth and even his music has seen him express his blackness. Remember The Time was a tribute to ancient Egypt and he literally transforms into a panther in Black Or White. Even the meddling in hiphop when he made the Dangerous and History albums. Mike was proud of his blackness. I just think it was in very subtle ways that he would express it. Even that story of MTV shows that he was a trailblazer in what he did. Mike had to cross over and it may have separated him from his people but after that, MTV had no choice but to show our culture and MJ was a huge part of that.
His vitiligo was real. I wish people would look closely at the gimmicks and makeup and realise that he was losing pigment and trying desperately to disguise that.
Michael only realized this once he changed his skin and it still wasn't enough to convince the group he was trying to impress 🙄 he embraced his blackness when the whites turned against him
he very clearly told the organiser of the sperm donation that he wanted his kids to not look like him when he was young. he had serious phenotypically-driven identity crisis. His dermatologist told him to tell the press it was just vitiligo. that skin condition never alters the appearance in the way he had dermatological alterations. Also the way he had his nose knobbed so many times. it hurts his fans to consider this.
That's the problem. The whiter he became, the blacker he acted. He was white asl in REMEMBER THE TIME but that was one of his most pro black videos of all time lol.
@@kinggeorge9331 Stephanie Mills was the original Dorothy in the "All Black" version of The Wiz (the play). The play came out years BEFORE the movie. Berry Gordon later bought the rights to "The Wiz" just so that he could specifically cast Diana Ross in the leading role. This is the ONLY reason that Diana beat out Stephanie Mills from being cast in the movie. She had an unfair advantage. But the guy who played the "lion" was cast in both the play and the movie.
Yes. I've been following her career also since The Wiz. Prior to The Wiz, she won at the Apollo theater like 6 times in a row, and that's how she landed the leading part in the play. Then later a recording career. Love, love, love Ms. Stephanie Mills.

It's crazy concerning MJ because even though he wanted to be a big star, the elites still worked against him anyway because they simply did not like him. As he got older he started to wake up to that. It sucks because when younger, one does not see it, but as they get older, they start to see it. I believe that if he stayed with Stephanie, they would have had a nice life together, and he would still be alive today.
yeah he had plenty of enemies and on top of that here you have Stephanie denying his vitiligo and saying he didn't want to be black but doesn't say any valid reason as to why MJ after Thriller would suddenly not want to be black given that he achieved his biggest success pretty much looking black
Their PR made them hang out.. he wasn’t into her like that.. he was into Diana Ross. Miss Stephanie is not mentioning that their PR put them together.. it wasn’t a real “relationship”. She said it in a previous interview but I guess she likes to exaggerate it for what it’s worth. MJ liked her, he was a fan but he was head over heels in love with Diana. Even Tatum O’Neal said so. He hung out with Brooke but only took a romantic interest in her once Diana got married.

I’ve followed her career since the wiz. I absolutely love this lady. She’s such a classy lady. An amazing Mom.
You must be talking about the Broadway play because that's Diana Ross in the movie

Stephanie !!!! Damn she don’t age ! I grew up on your music ❤ stay beautiful!
Ms. Stephanie stayed true to her church roots. She most certainly is a treasure. All of the recent singers are here because of her. All love and respect to the lovely lady. Thank you,my lady, for the wonderful voice and your contribution
to this industry that did not respect your heavenly voice. We all ease on down the road with you ....
Very well said💯
yeah he had plenty of enemies and on top of that here you have Stephanie denying his vitiligo and saying he didn't want to be black but doesn't say any valid reason as to why MJ after Thriller would suddenly not want to be black given that he achieved his biggest success pretty much looking black
Very well said. I believe that as well! 💯💯
Without Michael and everything he did, the musical landscape for black artists wouldn't be the same. It's a harsh reality.
My favorite singer of All Time!! Greatest voice! No diss to Whitney or Aretha, but when Ms Mills opens her mouth to sing, I get Goosebumps everytime!!!
Whitney, Stephanie and Mariah are my top 3
I love how she smooth side stepped answering that first question. ❤️
I said the same thing. I was lookn for this comment. 🤣
Ms. Stephanie Mills is an ICONIC LEGEND and deserves her things!!!!!
Lots of things MJ did were a career move, it’s obvious
So did beyonce and Prince. Most artist do. lol
@@fabalousitydon’t ever be fooled and think Prince didn’t want to be the biggest artist he possibly could. And definitely made moves to make it happen
@@ikexbankai Thank You!! like prince was just all about making music and not wanting to become one of the biggest stars of the world. GTFOH
So you don’t think Purpke Rain and the bikini underwear, buttless pants, etc. that Prince did weren’t career moves. You don’t think EVERYTHING Madonna did wasn’t a career move. Every star including Beyonce, Janet, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Drake and the list goes on and on had “Career Moves”. Just saying.🤔
@@rayhardy4856 EXACTLY. You can't be that successful and not make career moves.
A class act and one of my favs!! I turned this on my tv while my three year old son was having a meltdown and he went silent sat right down and started watching!! He’s a fan too now!!😭🤣❤
If MJ married Stephanie Mills or someone that really cared about him, he'd probably be alive today.
How the interviewer not know about MJ and Madonna?
I'm surprised he didn't marry Shana Mangatal (sp)
Or not the icon he became
He sure would.
@soldiersoflovetv7664 Mike wasn’t dating white women, he was just friends with them. He was literally having an affair with Diana Ross for 10 years. Stephanie Mills just saving face & painting another narrative. Because Diana took her role as Dorothy & her nigga
if she cared for him she would not deny that he had vitiligo. That was one of the biggest things that hurt him

I like how she TOTALLY DISREGARDED the interviewers 1st question and responded how she chose. Lol!!
Saw her last year, February 2022 in Atlantic City. I've loved her since The Wiz. A true class act.
"Sweet Sensation" remains one of my all time favorite R&B albums. Lost a close friend back in 1980, this LP helped me get through it. Thank you Stephanie! The greatest songstress of my generation. RIP A1C Karen L Marti USAF

In Michael Jackson's Moonwalk book 1988 p. 131, he briefly discussed this. He mentioned that he had gone to see Stephanie on the Broadway version of Wiz, 6 or 7 times. The he said this: "I later became VERY FRIENDLY with the star of the show, Stephanie Mills, the Broadway Dorothy. I told her then, and I've always believed since, that it was a tragedy that her performance in the play could not have been preserved on film."
Ms. MILLS has always been in a class by herself pure beauty and elegance and very underrated artist 💯
I agree 💯
She's lived a healthy life style and it shows . She's still so pretty & vibrant !
MJ wasn’t hanging out at Studio 54 to partake and party lol, he was researching/observing for the Off the Wall album 😂

@@JustLove.Official The fame he achieved as a child with his brothers as the Jackson 5. Michael Jackson crossed over to become the King Of Pop. Stephanie is absolutely correct. @Yo Mama’s A Funky Hoe! naw found innocent PERIOD the chandler family wanted money Michael wanted to take it to court but his team just said pay him to just get it over with which he regretted later in life and he should have fought it more cause it made him appear guilty, and also they did a strip search on him Jordan the first kid who accused him said he was Circumcised and Michael’s uncircumcised but the media never reported that ,and as far as the 2nd case they turned out to be scam artists the Arvizo family who was proven in court that they lied about the whole thing but again media never reported it ,also 10 year fbi investigation on him raided his house twice found NOTHING and with 75 police cars at his house too nothin ,and with the people who accused him it was always about the money and not justice

I was in love with Michael Jackson when i was 7 years old i use to kiss the tv every time he came on I thought he was so beautiful and sweet and that smile omg that smile just melted my heart
Michael never called him the king of pop. He just was.
Just to clarify, Prince’s 1999 music video was MTV’s first black music video. It aired December of 1982. March of 1983 Billie Jean dropped alongside Prince’s Little Red Corvette. Juss to add fire to the Prince vs Mike flame 😭
True True I remember. Because Prince was considered more a rock artist playing guitar solos and rock keyboards. “Controversy” started that crossover.
Michael was the FIRST black artist put in HEAVY ROTATION . There was a black British group called Musical Youth even before Prince; their videos like Prince were played sporadically.
I'm glad you shared that amazing backstory! I never knew, heard, or had noticed this before even though I grew up during that era watching MTV religiously.

Right… not surprising or funny. It’s like she’s being interviewed by a twelve year old .
Yeah that confused me when he made that a big thing. Like what do you expect Mike not to be called a nigga?
There’s a funny story about MJ sitting in a meeting with Brazilian officials for the They Don’t Care About Us video. He was sitting impatiently waiting for the meeting to be over. After the officials leave MJ says “ I thought those muthafuckas were never going to leave” in a very deep voice.
