I had that problem a few years back. I just bought a new cam frame housing from freightliner. It was about 2K plus core. You have to factor the opportunity cost of being off the road while you wait for a machine shop to do their thing. If time doesn't matter to your customer then Francisco Amaya once featured a machine shop out in California that installs steel sleeves in those housings. That would be a permanent fix.

I don't even give the option to the customer. Repair the correct way or charge for the the amount for disassemble and some extra and he can take a hike. 25 years in the exotic automotive repair business (currently owner operator with the dd15 cascadia😂) realized how much mechanic trying save some money for the driver. And 90% of the time the other shop need to deal with the so called savings. Carlos you can only able to fix trucks easy but can't fix your reputation . 🍻🍻

@@tait4613 find a shop to perform a compression test and see what the numbers are. I am pretty sure your valves are tight and need to be adjusted. Running the test lets you see which cylinder needs more attention. It’s always good to run a before and after to see the change.

when the engine warms up the pistons increase in size due to thermal expansion, causing the compression to seal better.
cylinder #5 seems fucked up though regardless

I remember the story that you told me about a trucker very close to you ( 🪦🙏🫶) that he went to freightliner and told the clerk that he knew his truck better than his wives nachas 😅. Point being and that you made was that truck drivers are in their truck 10-12 hours a day and know when somethings off
Curious, was it just the hissing sound, did the trucker notice any other indicators, e.g : MIL on, loss of power, etc ?
