This run is so good so much fun I'm watching it for the second time. I'll probably watch it again in a few months. The commentary was great and this game itself is phenomenal. Thank you everyone who worked on this
_Tales of Symphonia_ was one of the most defining games of my childhood, but this is the first time I looked for speedruns on it. Very interesting, and the commentary was great (though I guess others didn't like it? I thought it was just friendly banter). That Ymir Forest skip was great, as was walking around during scenes. Time to watch a _Tales of the Abyss_ speedrun, since that and _Eternia_ are my two favorites in the series.
2:03:27 I love how even though it's a speedrun they chose not to skip the dialogue and just read kratos' line out loud 🤣 i love this scene too so it made my day
I like how at the beginning they're like "oh ya this is one of the more happy go lucky tales games" and then after the second disc gets popped in they're like "when you're not playing, but just describing what's happening this game is really dark"
At 3:54:40 the commentator says that Presea is 23 years old. I just wanted to clarify that in the credits she says that she is now 28 years old. Unless I'm missing a piece of the puzzle in which 5 years elapses from the time in the game to the time of the credits.
I was listening to this in the background and randomly glance over to see buddy with the para ball sign. I decided to rewind and see how long that had been goin for and he has a FUCKING POW HAMMER SIGN TOO!! What an absolute LEGEND! Great run, commentary was just fine. Way better than couch’s who cosplay silent protagonists. Jay crushed it. Amazing gameplay and some witty one liners. And Yawgamoth gets points just for existing
I was watching this and for the first hour I was recognizing Lloyds voice but I couldn't remember where from... He shares a voice actor with Robin from the Teen Titans.
04:10:14 Wonder if the idea is supposed to be that half-elves in this game have better vision in the dark than humans do? If so, I guess that'd be a weirdly specific thing to implement considering I don't think that *ever* gets brought up as a thing in-game.
What do you mean? It is not unheard of for elves, the generic fantasy creature, to have good eyesight. Being elvish and having heightened eyesight and/or hearing capabilities go hand-in-hand
Just want to note that Jay and Gedrith are absolutely fantastic and a lot of the heat for commentary should be on my shoulders. In general, I tried to channel my inner Spikevegeta and keep upbeat constant commentary during fights which unfortunately led to a bit of a clash with my cohosts. Basically, there just wasn't enough communication about who had what roles in commentary going into the run and while the run itself was fantastic and raised a ton of money, please bear with some awkwardness and clashing between myself and the other commentators. Definitely not a mistake I'll make in the future where that should be hashed out in the future.
I thought it was fine man. I saw some of the comments before starting the video and thought “uh oh, time to cringe I guess” but the commentary was mostly excellent with just a few stilted moments. Plenty of other runs tend to have those moments too especially for such a long run which has got to be difficult for the commentators.
The roles of commentary have nothing to do with you talking over other people my guy. I couldn't finish the damn video and i fucking love this game. For the love of god, just let your boys get a word in edge-wise. I defy you to sit down and listen to this whole thing without getting aggravated. It is actually so distracting listening to you passive-aggressively talk over your co-hosts.
I thought you all did a good job and I really enjoyed it. A criticism a few make is "the commentator trying to one-up the other," yet all I saw was an entertaining, friendly rivalry over the Raine/Kratos Flanoir scene. Record any group talking for over 7 hours though during a charity stream and there will be something someone will criticize.
Man that dark Pegasus destroyed me in my game. I had to equip accessories that canceled stagger so I could even have a chance at him. That pow hammer was no joke.
There is nothing worse in these events than commentators who argue, or are too talkative, and especially ones who are always wrong. Why would you as a runner pick a couch who doesn't know anything and then just let them argue and talk over each other the whole 7hr run.
Kyle Corrales I know my comment won’t matter because your input is correct I just chose Gedrith and Ghoul because they were my only friends going into the event. I hope you at least enjoyed my gameplay on the other hand
@@JayMota16 Dude, you were amazing. Besides, even if the commentary wasn't to a lot of tastes, I did like that you all seemed to be having a good time, and more relaxed as things went on. Doing a 7hr run requires a ton of stamina and at the end of the day, raising money for charity and having fun is the most important thing. I haven't seen many ToS runs but I definitely hope that you'll be able to attend future RPGLBs and wow us with your skills again sometime! Also, after finally finishing the vid, I want to play it again. It's such a damn shame that the PS3 version just feels... kind of wrong. I ended up getting halfway through and just stopped, but maybe I can try again.
@@Hokaru11792 Thank you for the kind words dude. It really goes a long way when it seems people didn't take a liking to my commentary which is actually my worst aspect lol
I don’t expect an answer to this coz it’s such an old video but there’s two things I just never have explained and even googling them doesn’t give results. what glitch allows them to move so fast on the world map? And why is Raine the best option for Flanoir scene? Is her scene quicker than the rest?
@@maxpower3555 Sorry I didn’t explain those things. Despite this run being from 4 years ago that was my first live marathon and my nerves kept me from talking most of the time. Still I’m glad you watched the run and enjoyed the run I hope.
Probably why it was a near constant couch talking over eachother. I have a feeling and hope things were lost in translation but I just think sadly it was a mini battle of egos
Slightly old video, but I'm kinda mad Raine won. I love Raine, she's a great character, but Kratos is by far my favorite character. The scene between him and Lloyd is just amazing to me, and, if I'm being brutally honest, I can't stand Zelos and him dying by picking Kratos is just icing on the cake. EDIT: Para Ball

Why does everyone hate Dawn of a new world and Tales of Legendia? Like to me they are some of the best tales of's, Not just story or cute moments but fighting and exploring was so much fun in each.
I played legendia right after symphonia and I really did like it, but I felt like the story went on a for a bit too long, having to run through a mini story at the end for each character got kind of boring eventually. Also dawn of the new world was only fun to me because I knew all the lore and details about symphonia, so the contrast and changes that took place after a couple years was really cool to see.
I can't speak to Legendia, but Dawn of the New World just wasn't a necessary squeal. The story wasn't very well polished, and it over all felt like kind of a rushed cash grab to me.
because dawn fundamentally misunderstands the characters from the original, chooses to reuse locations only to take all the life and charm out of them, and has quite poor plot pacing. Among other things. Majulaar has a pretty good video going pretty objectively into where the game fails and (occasionally) succeeds.
@@Just.Kidding I can understand that, but the focus is on Emil and Marta in the second one, in all honesty they could have just called it Tales of monsters or something, because of unique monster fighting plus you couldn't level the og cast.
they get paid on twitch and youtube and other sites to stream their runs. obviously not all of them, but a ton. and if not, they are just hella dedicated.
Grandia runner here (12-14ish hour game). Work a full time job, do practice on the days I work, full runs on days off. It's not difficult to find a couple hours here or there to practice sections in between work and sleep. Finding the time to dedicate to a full run is tougher, but not overly difficult.
Late reply on my part but i used to practice symphonia day in and out when I only attended college and being 6 years later now I have a full time job and even then my muscle memory sticks with me. You just need to find a healthy balance with it in my opinion
Great run, but omg, the commentary was terrible. Both of the guys were talking over each other and the runner. The guy in the black shirt was completely misinformed about a lot of things too. Look up the WR run from last year on JayMota's channel for entertaining commentary.
The Tales of 'name eludes an old man' run that Yagamoth did earlier than this is a prime example of good, informative and non-intrusive commentary - I know it's easy for us to claim something isn't that good when people on the couch are trying to be entertaining and informative, but the delivery was awkward - nothing worse than when the runner has to fight to speak while the couch is on a word-gasm spree - opinion, of course :)
