"Vex'ahlia, I... I'm sorry." - Possibly the one time he spoke to his daughter with genuine compassion. But he's too ashamed to look at her when he said it, becuz his eyes look away from his daughter when he does.
This is how I thought of it in the original campaign, and the book as well. It seems like it was either changed for the show or it was never a one-night-stand. This whole scene gives me SO MANY questions about the Vessar family in the show though! For example, assuming they didn't meet in Byroden like in the campaign, where DID Elaine and Syldor meet? Was Elaine originally from Byroden, and that's why Syldor sent her there? Was she visibly pregnant when she was "sent" to Byroden? Also, what was Syldor's true motivtion for mistreating the twins? Obviously it was, at least in part, losing Elaine, but was he also still racist towards them, or was that just a front for the never-getting-over-Elaine, thing? I think, at the very least, syngornian society has to be racist, or else why would Syldor think that his relationship with Elaine was something to be ashamed of, something that he was too proud to admit to? If his society did didn't look down on half elves, and those who are not elves, this wouldn't be the case. He would think it was a perfectly fine relationship to be in. It could certainly be both, maybe he did want to love Elena, but then also looked down on his kids for not being full elves. In the campaign he says that he fights his prejudice every day, so it could certainly be a mix. What do you think? I have thoughts and I wanna discuss them with people and I have no one to talk to you about it!
It was, their mother was always in Byroden and its the children who were taken away, they've changed it for season 3 in an attempt to explain Vexs irrational view of relationships. Kind of ironic considering the theme of "truth" its trying to spin.
If I had to name the biggest A-hole in the series, that has to go to Syldor Vessar. I know about the other bad guys and what they did but to me he is the top one because he turned his back on his children when they needed him
Just wait there are two massive A-holes coming in later seasons of Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein show that is coming soon . . . . . And they are both Fathers to player characters!!!
To answer your question.... Ripley defo Ripley. She killed Percy's family, tortured Percy and Cassandra. Later made a deal with Percy's toxic ex partner of a demon. Pin the creation of her weapon on Percy and get very creepily up close and personal with him. WORK WITH THORDAK TO STEAL RESIDUAM AND TO SEND A MESSAGE. And then kills him just after he forgave her making his forgiveness be reduced to nothing. AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HER VIEWS OF THE WORLD
@@iancody3215 did she get a reward for her performance on the last of us part two despite people wanting to string her and her family up all for cause of her character which I have to say was pretty shameful?
@darthdracul8372 You're right, it was shameful on what happened to Laura for her performance of Abby in the Last of Us 2. Having said that, those same people that criticized her for her performance just didn't know any better and were directing their pain to someone out of sheer convenience. Not saying that this was justified by no means. It just that there are those people that act out of emotions then using their heads.

I think it could be a bit of all those factors. Humans are complex creatures and elves I assume wouldn’t be any different, some elf societies in fiction are often prejudiced against other races the same way humans are, some of it is out of hate, some out of fear, ignorance or a sense of superiority. It’s a mixed back no matter how you look at it. In the case of syldor I would say he truly loved Elaina, wanted to be with her but his society wouldn’t allow it and because of his high standing within it he needed to bury those feelings deep down. I think his treatment of the twins is a projection of his self hatred, hate for sending his wife away, which inevitably led to her death. Looking at the twins is a constant reminder of his late wife, the woman he loved, and his guilt over sending her away and the death that followed. Of course from our perspective her death is not his fault that was all Thordak, but to him, the twins are just a constant reminder of how he send her away, and the guilt over her death that he feels. It doesn’t justify his treatment of course not, and part of it is probably the elven society’s distrust of other races, but I think deep down he blamed himself for what happened to Elaina and he couldn’t deal with that. So he took that out on his children

Fantastic performances from Laura and Troy
Troy fucking Baker, doing what he does best: tugging at our heartstrings.
I always assumed the parent's relationship was nothing but a one night fling

Nah, there's been quite a few villains that could occupy that spot, and besides, Syldor kind of redeems himself from this point on.

This show gets better and better with every season. I really hope we get more.
There is one more season I believe.
@@tahleeeza Yes, it's been renewed for another season.
Considering its popularity, it will hopefully be renewed for many more.

@@tahleeeza Likewise. Say what you will about Amazons live action shows, but when it comes to animation, they always entertain.
_So_ glad the show didn't keep making Syldor a hate-sink character. This role is usually reserved for TLoVM's villains.
Give Laura an Oscar! Please.
Technically The Emmy but still!
