    Nice to see you enjoying some classic Swiss food. Little info for those who are interested: The Beef fondue that you had was the Fondue bourguignonne, where you fry the meat in oil. There is also the Fondue Chinoise (side note, Fondue Chinoise, or chinese fondue, is based on Chinese hotpot), where you cook the meat in broth. My Family and I mostly eat these dishes and including Raclette in the autumn or winter. Keep it up!

    I make a chocolate fondue for family and friends each year on New Year's Eve. What I discovered early on, is that if the fondue pot uses only milk chocolate, people can only eat a few bites before they hit sugar overload and don't want any more. So I use Bernard Callebaut chocolate slabs - about 50% milk chocolate, and 50% dark chocolate. Most of the sweet taste then comes from the fruit and people will eat more fruit and really enjoy their fondue a lot longer.

    I've had all 3 fondues. My parents had a fondue pot when I was growing up. Glad you had your first experience of them in the place it originated. Aren't they just scrumptious?! I too love the dessert and cheese ones over the beef.

We love everything about a fondue....raclette, garlic, kirsch, white wine and all the tasty morsels we coat in the melted cheese. And of course, the company of those sharing the meal! My mother is from Switzerland the Italian part of Switzerland and she always made fondue for us. Both the cheese and the chocolate fondue, I never had the meat fondue. When I was a little and my mom would throw me a birthday party she would ask me what type of cake I’d like and I would always say I didn’t want cake. I had some kind of meat fondue in Malmö, Sweden once back in 2012 when meeting up with some online friends. We were 2-4 people per fondue pot and just having a great time chatting over good food. I cherish that memory and would definitely go back to that restaurant again if going back to Malmö, if that restaurant is still in business that is. I moved back to my home town close to Gothenburg shortly after that restaurant visit and haven’t been back to the south part of Sweden since. I lived in Copenhagen at that time though, and also lived in Malmö for a while before that. Lived in Copenhagen or Malmö for almost 5,5 years, before moving back to my hometown. Fond(ue) memories from my time there though

    At Christmas time Whole Foods and Trader Joe's carry "Swiss Fondue" already mixed. All you need to do is heat it up in a saucepan, put it over a sterno or an individual burner and the day before cut up a french baguette into small pieces and let it dry out overnight. You now have everything you need to experience Swiss (cheese) fondue. A nice addition is to have steamed vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower florets to dip in besides the stale bread pieces.

    • @danielegger6460
      @danielegger6460 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends. You can easily tell if a fork is meant for eating by counting the number of prongs: 2 prongs -> not meant for eating, 3+ prongs -> okay to use for eating. The fork he had for the cheese fondue had 3 prongs so it's meant for eating (since the pot is shared, you're supposed to only lightly pierce the bread (though not too lightly, if it stays in the pot you'll have to pay a round of Kirschwasser for your party and drink it), dip it in, get it off by softly hooking on with your teeth and not licking it). Regular fondue forks like for meat fondue only have two prongs so you're supposed to put the ready food on your plate and eat it with a regular fork (the fact that they'll supply 2 forks should also be a good hint). That's the theory at least, but nowadays everything is possible. 😉

    Back in the1970s Fondue Parties used to be the rage here in Australia, probably everywhere else too, at least in the west! They went out of fashion, but I suppose you could still track down the home fondue sets which we used to have. The Swiss have military service, so I expect that is why they are so thin. Thank you for the video!

    • @etuanno
      @etuanno ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The army for sure isn't the reason why so many ppl are not obese. Fast food isn't cheap at all, eating in a restaurant is expensive and since everything is somewhat close together, you can cook at home for dinner and warm the rest up as lunch at work.
      I love cooking and I haven't eaten in a restaurant in several months because if I cook at home I can afford a LOT nicer food for the same amount of money.
      I prefer Raclette over Fondue because you can buy a big block of it, make a Raclette and then use the rest to make cheese melts (I usually take a frying pan, put a bunch of Raclette cheese in it along with a bit of dry white wine, put the lid on top and let it melt in the steam, that way less cheese sticks to the pan. Then pour it over a piece of bread). Also you can use the leftover boiled potatoes to make Rösti, fry them in a pan, etc.

    Asians seem to not have learned to size food bites to fit in the mouth.
    I live in China 8 years and due to the lack of fork and knife (only chopsticks) I realised Asians have difficulties to cut food to mouthsize pieces.
    even if too big (what is most of the time) it just goes into the mouth and then the endless chewing starts (incl. hamster look)
    I am surprised to see you do this.

      I agree. Slurping noodles loudly is the norm in some countries but doing so in most places is not appropriate. Eating bite portions that are obviously too large is the same. I love this channel immensely but that is the only thing that bothers me.

    • @jpjay1584
      @jpjay1584 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@manther907 agree. but its also a mix of other things.
      one is if you do Fondue for the first time its hard to judge how to rip the bread, that happens easily.
      and a second aspect is if you have a food channel, (slightly) bigger bites look more rich compared to mini bites.
      but my observation here in Asia is that they don't learn it early on (as we do. our parents would tell us to have smaller bites and thats how we learn) all my Chinese friends and colleagues struggle to size their bites properly.
      especially with Western food. they mostly only use the fork and go for whatever the size of the bite is.
      in that case, we would still try to bite only half of it and then the second half instead of shoving it all in.
      cheers!!

    omg my swiss heart stopped when Mike put the bacon and the beef in the cheese. That's a crime for sue. It's meant to be eaten with pickeled vegetables and bread and is not traditionally served with Fondue =)

      I'm in the USA, so I may not be correct, but I was taught that you shouldn't eat off of the spiked fork. Instead, I was told to remove it onto the plate, then use a regular fork to eat it.

    • @Arlasius
      @Arlasius ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sandramort37 yup you are absolutely correct, but that only apply to te meat fondue (bourguignone or chinese) because the fork can become super hot, for the cheese fondue there is no problem eating directly from the spiked fork he used way too big pieces of bread though ;)
