How EXACTLY did Michael know it was Fredo who betrayed him?

- In the godfather fredo corleon is probably the dumbest character in the films. He is seen as doing menial tasks for the family and has no real power. in the second film he betray's michael and he ends up catching him in a lie. But, right after michael is nearly assassinated, he suspects fredo and only him the whole time. Why?
I’ll actually explain it in like 3 seconds depending on how good you read. They meet Johnny Ola in Cuba and Michael says “hey Fredo have you met Johnny” and Fredo says no. Then later someone asks Fredo where he found this club they went to and Fredo says “Johnny Ola showed it to me Johnny knows all these places” so he obviously knew Ola well
Exactly
He told on himself.
Right you are!
Yup! Like it wasnt hard to decipher
Jonny Ola knew those places like the back of his hand
Fredo was off mentally after his bout with the fever when he was an infant.
Exactly. Came in to write this.
He almost drowned in the penguin exhibit
We can say that about all these videos of Karen's on planes or shoplifting etc.
He was on borrowed time for a long time@@caryr.7089
Johnny Ola knows these places like the back of his hand
Exactly
😂
Self snitching 😂
Fredo is the middle son....skills and attention were given to Sonny, who was the heir. Michael was the hope for a different life for the family. There was no role or visibility for Fredo. It's why he was so ineffective and needed to look for another way to be more visible, more powerful. Every family has a Fredo.
His role was limited due to his limited intelligence, not because he was the middle son. In the criminal underworld, power isn't inherented.
Michael had every natural gift to be an executive, a mastermind, and a leader. He studied people and assessed the strengths and weaknesses of every person. He verified before he could trust, Fredo was always too trusting and vulnerable to being used by others.
Fredo was incompetent, aloof, compulsive, and emotional. He was the exact opposite of Sunny and Michael. Sunny was highly intelligent. A tactical and strategic thinker. Loyal to the family. He was undone by his hot temper. Michael was almost everything that was his father, Vito. But Mike was emotionally closed and distant to his family and friends.
Fredo's downfall was a long time in the making. His dismissal in any leadership role might have to do with his failure to protect his father from his would-be assassins. Fredo never got a shot off with his own pistol.
Fredo played his role very well in the film. Very authentic.
All five of the movies John Cazale was in was nominated for Best Picture - and three of them won the award.
Fredo did not have the makings of a Varsity Athlete
Neither did that Johnny Ola
Most people miss Fredo’s disappointment the night of the assassination attempt on Michael. Was he truly upset because he felt that he was lied to when he thought it was going to be a kidnapping and not an assassination attempt or was he upset when he saw that Michael had survived the attempt? There is no doubt that Fredo was responsible for letting the assassins into the compound and the pulling back of the drapes in Michael’s bedroom.
So who killed the assassins...Fredo?
Let's go fishin' Fredo.
Fredo was ticked off that he was passed over. Because deep down Vito had plans for Tom & Michael in the family business & that he himself was not involved for a very good reason.
Fredo had his own agenda, although in the end everything would crumble if fredo was in charge.
fredo was adopted
@@fredysanmiguel4488no he wasn't. He was just the sickly middle child.
What is the point of the "IT WAS TOM" text on the main video thumbnail ?
Tom had knowledge that fredo was a weak link Michael knew that too.
Fredo was not made head of the Corleone family. Quite likely he was angry about this and wanted to get rid of his brother somehow. So he makes deals to benefit himself thinking he could be rid of his brother and then be head of the family. But Michael is extremely smart. He controls his emotions with an iron fist. He watches everything and everybody like a hawk. He listens every carefully too. He picks up littles clues like breadcrumbs and finally figures out that Fredo betrayed him.
Michael is always calm and careful. He is like a chess master and plans all his moves. He is an incredible mastermind of a gangster.
But in part 3 his control is dismantled by his own daughter and nephew with Connie's help.
I blame the Don since he NEVER should allowed Fredo in the family business. Fredo was not smart enough to navigate in that world where a mistake could get you killed. He also failed his father during the assignation attempt on his dad by dropping the gun. The gunman also didn’t see him as a threat and let him live. Also, when his brother stood up for him against Moe Green…Fredo realized his brother knew Moe beat him and still sided with Moe. Fredo failed to understand that allowing Moe beat him as a grown man made the family look weak to the other families. Moe hitting Fredo should had been a death sentence that even Roth known crossed a line. Fredo then sided with Roth which almost killed Kay and Michael. Almost losing Kay that way had to be a reminder how he failed his first wife since he didn’t discover his bodyguard turned on him and planted a bomb in car. Michael repeated the same mistake which allowed someone in his family to open the blinds. I also think Connie opened the blinds since I can’t imagine Fredo entering Michael’s bedroom with Kay in the room. But Connie asked for money and Michael embarrassed her by saying no to her request. Fredo hated Michael for being passed over as the Don and Connie hated Michael for killing her husband. The Don should had also taken care of Carlo since he beat up Connie which also made the family look weak. That was another issue Michael had to clean up for his father’s inaction.
I think the gun men figured out a way to open the windows from the outside and pulled back the drapes before closing the windows again and lying in wait?
Interesting take related to Connie but nothing of the sort was shown in the movie. Maybe this angle of suspicion towards Connie should have been written in the movie to make it more wholesome and multi faceted.
I always thought there would have been another Mickey Mouse club with unlimited cocktail waitresses waiting for Fredo if the 'hit' had been successful?
Fredo: I never met Johnny Ola,
Next day
Fredo: Johnny Ola told me about….
And Michael “The Taperecorder” noticed it as it came out of Fredo’s mouth..
As a person who watched The Godfather when it first was released and a person who watched it multiple times on VHS and DVD. Michale never thought it was Fredo that betrayed him. It was Fredo slip-upped when Micahel released it was Fredo. You saw the look in his eyes when he put the pieces together.
I think Michael knew it was Fredo because Fredo told Michael it was Fredo…🎯
This movie is copied from a Hindi movie Sarkar 😅
I think Michael knew / suspected Fredo was the traitor from when Vito got shot. When it was revealed that Paulie was sick and Fredo told Clemenza that he did not need to replace Paulie and chose to drive Vito. In addition, his fumbling of the gun when Vito was shot was also a tell
When Vito was shot, Fredo was just being Fredo, stupid and incompetent. He didn't betray Michael and the family until much later.
Being simple minded he was not a deep thinker but after Roth tricked him getting enough info to attempt a hit at the family compound, Fredo needed to come clean with Michael. He would have paid penance but could have redeemed himself.
He knew because the author of the God Father wrote it that way.
We know that it's a movie but still get in tune😊
Fredo, you knew better.
He knew it's was fredo when they were in Cuba and fredo said he didn't know Johnny but then fredo said Johnny told him about this club they went to
In the books Fredo is gay and that’s why his wife says he’s not a real man
In the book Fredo is bisexual. The book also implies that he was molested as a child by his parish priest, Father Stefano. Also in the book Louie Russo, a rival mobster spreads rumors of Fredo's sexuality to make Michael look weak. He tries to have Fredo killed while he is with a male lover.
@@kmarsh089 Wow...I need to read the book.
You missed the entire scene where Michael truly discovered that Fredo was the traitor. During the scene 7:07, the Nevada senator who visited Mike in the beginning of the film asked Fredo how he found out about these exotic dancing theaters. Fredo asnwered that "Johnny Ola told me about this place. He brought me here". This is contradictory to what he told Mike at 6:28. In the movie, Mike didn't see Fredo as a traitor, or at least he convinced himself that Fredo was not. But after that, Mike discovered it.
How did you get Forrest Gump to narrate?
LOL easy Ola told him in cuba he hungout with freddo.... & freddo was an idiot who wanted to please & be some body. Freddo was weak again he wanted to be someone that's why when he went to vegas he suddenly got all protective of that jackass Moe Green.
Is this AI generated narration? Mispronunciation of names is kind of a giveaway.
It was in the script
Enzo The Baker told him
Never heard him called Hogg-in what Movie is that?
How did he know? You'd have to be Sicilian.
Michael didn't know until the superman scene where Fredo blurts it out. Had he known before when having a drink, Michael would never share that Hyman Roth is a dead man if he suspected Fredo of being a traitor
You're right. Michael's expression was very hurt and devastated, he knew it was someone around but I don't think he imagined it was Fredo until that moment.
Fredo was little on on the special ed side facts❤
He was a sickly child too
u missed the dead giveaway bro....
He knew it cause the script said so.
He told his brother to never takes sides against the familly again. this happens in family's with over 4 - 7 brothers often.
Can happen sadly
He was weak… and stupid
If they had DNA testing back, then maybe Fredo was the milkmans son. It would explain a lot.
“-but he’s weak, and he’s stupid.” His motives were selfish, but understandable. They say to start planning your next vacation while you’re still on vacation, because of the mindset it puts you in. In the Corleone Family, Fredo was the Fool. The idea of being important and getting a piece of the future action was intoxicating. He’d rather have status in Hell than play the Fool any longer in Heaven.
Not really difficult to notice when Michael finds out Fredo betrayed him. He knew from the beginning that someone from the inside helped the assassins.
That was Michaels Bedroom curtains open. Only limited people would be allowed in that area. Michael ss it was Capos, Consigliere or family.
Jealousy was the reason he went behind his back and it proved to be deadly! Friends and family are all capable of this unwise decision! Michael knows that everyone is his enemy!!!🖤❤🖤❤🖤❤
No. The Fredo issue was not easy at all. Yes, easy to spot..but then? Michael loved Fredo. He desperately hoped it was not him in the end.
At the 5:55 mark the narrator talks about what makes Michael "unanimously know" Fredo was a traitor. Whoever wrote this script apparently doesn't know what "unanimously" means.
if you go by the books Michael was an avid reader and a studious person , his 4' years of college got him his officers rank in the usmc and as a survivor of the Pacific island hopping campaign and being a leader of a marine rifle company he's a shrewd judge of men indirectly he was groomed for the role of family leadership a decorated marine combat veteran they couldn't have done any better , the only thing is that most soldiers don't make good criminals because of their moral compass and mostly combat junkies who lose their moral compass go towards Criminal ventures
Jonny Ola was allowed to retire, to Jersey, and run a glorified crew
Tom was longer part of the Family Organization
Is there anyone concerning who opened the curtain?
🤦♂️
Fredo gave himself up
" I'M SMART"
1:05 - I always thought for a brief second there that Michael looked like Moe Howard.
B u t his father would not killed him!! That was sad!!
You're really, really, really bad at this. You seem to not have even watched any of 'The Godfather'
Kind of poor writing in my view. Kay gives it away when she asks Michael why the drapes are open. It's the day of his son's communion party. A lot of commotion. Fredo has freedom of movement within the compound. He either opened them himself or directed the housekeeper to open them. It's not clear if there even was a housekeeper. But, once it got dark, whoever was in that room would have been backlit and much easier to see from the outside than any assailant would have been from inside. Pacino plays that part with precision!
Ngl 5:40 I thought Vito was out the picture when Fredo and Mo and Johnny Orla where at the club. Shout out to Junior Soprano.😅
Fredo was a pawn to be played with, his drinking and over socializing made him a weak link to be had. truth be told, had he embarrassed his weakness, he could've turn that weak character into power. how? by playing the fool and became the double agent he was told to be when they sent him to work with Moe Green. It's like exiling fredo yet keeping close enough so he feels loved.
He could've turn that into power
