- in the godfather part 2 we get introduced to a new character, frankie five toes pentangeli. He worked with vito before michael took over as the acting don and was loyal to the corleones. but this all changes when he thought michael backstabbed him almost having him killed. this leads to pentangeli testifying against michael. But there are hidden details till this day that reveal his true reason he changed his mind. #thegodfather #crime #movie #mafia #vitocorleone #godfather #michaelcorleone
Frank probably realized he was duped from the beginning. To protect his family from retaliation and to ensure their prosperity. Also, so no bad blood remained between the families. Frank took his own life.
Frank's Rotherham was high on the food chain in Sicily, they would not have harmed him. It would bring the wrath of Sicily on the family. Mike was far from stupid.
Michael wasn't going to harm Frankie's brother by any means. Vincenzo was high-ranking in Sicily & more importantly was tasked with protecting their family members back in the old country -- So if Frankie would've broken Omerta, then the implication was that his brother would've allowed harm to come to Frankie's kids. But apparently, Frankie was going to be whacked regardless of whether he testified or not...
I didn't mess up
Michael is a criminal put him in jail
On the Army base Frank Pentangeli tells Tom Hagen "addio" rather than "ciao" implying "farewell" rather than just "good-bye".
Fun fact. During the testimony scene michael gazzo was a little drunk. Francis Coppola in the DVD commentary said they broke for a long lunch before that scene and he could tell michael was tipsy. I think it played well with his confused retraction.
“ in the commission
You ask for permission to hit’em
Nino like me hit’em
While wifey was with’em “ ~B.S.
Five toes?
The answer is Omertà. Frankie saw his brother and immediately realized the Mafia life and the oath he had taken. Excellent video. Well thought out. Really interesting.
thank you! appreciate it
Excellent podcast I agree 100% with you
5 angels, not toes.Kind of reminds me of ysl Woody, lol.
You got to go back to the part where Frankie and Tom was talking at that Army place, They shook hands but they hands stayed held for awhile, Tom gave him the needle and the stuff for Frank to kill himself, a punishment for what Frankie done in the first place
The reason that the guy says "Michael Corleone says hello " was to makPentangelli would think Michael wanted him dead and betray him if he survived the assassination attempt 😅
Why was it necessary to mention the name of Michael Corleone when Frankie Pentangeli was suffocated?
Well, wasn't suffocation meant to kill? Wasn't Pentangeli supposed to die a few seconds later? Does it mean that knowing the issuer of the order would help him in the grave?
Had Pentagali testified, all Pentangeli's going back to the old country would meet a bad end
I always thought the Frankie's brother would voluntarily give up his own life to remove the dishonour.
The line was ad-libbed
I've heard that too. It helps the audience understand what's happening, but it doesn't seem like the hitman would have said that. Unless he thought it possible that Frankie would survive the hit. I guess he might have wanted Frankie to believe a lie as he died. That's a pretty cold thought.
Keep up the good work on your videos!
thanks man!
Simple. Omertà.
Once omerta wasnt honored the mafia went downhill. Even so called bosses are informants now. Without rules and consequences its not so organized crime
When Frankie changed his mind during the trial, Tom spoke with Frankie's brother and let him know about the family's honor.
He didnt want to disappoint his older brother.
Such an iconic Godfather scene
Its called "honor" real men!
Sorry but I never wondered I knew exactly why the moment the scene happened. Clearly there are possible reasons but the biggest is just the fact that he realized Michael could get to the brother which was his family & that even if he wasn't in the life (some reports say the brother wasn't in the mafia while I do find that unlikely )either way he might be killed what brother could life thinking or feeling like the cause let alone being the cause of your brother's death.
His brother is a high ranking mafioso. Untouchable. The move is psychological.
I didn't mess up.
Why does he say champagne cocktail
It's an actual drink.
9cl Champagne
1cl Cognac
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 Sugar cube
I thought Michael mishandled the whole situation.
How would you have handled it?
@spacecat3198 just being a bit more honest with Frank.
It wasn't clear why he went to long island to shout at Frank after the assassination attempt. All it did was make Frank think Michael suspected him of being involved.
Frank had good reasons for thinking Michael was setting him up.
@@DanBeech-ht7sw Those are some good points actually. Though is anyone's actions perfect? Roth sent people to do a hit on him, which could have got his family including children killed, even a man like Michael can make mistakes. But yeah even the smallest mistake can have a huge cost in time he wasn't being too careful. A bit of a gamble really. In that case I hope the books shed further light (I just started the book).
In short, there is no question that Frank’s brother Vincenzo’s presence in the hearing was a message to Frank that his family members under Vincenzo’s protection were in great danger and perhaps might be killed if he testified against Michael. By initially agreeing to testify against Michael and getting witness protection, he had already forsaken his oath of omertà. I see no reason why Frank would change his mind again about his testimony if not for a good reason. I don’t think even Vincenzo’s “disapproval” would have swayed him either. Nor do I think that Vincenzo was in danger. Certainly Michael would have had to get approval of the Sicialian Mafia to kill him and I don’t think he would have gotten that. Therefore, I believe that the most likely reason that Frank changed his testimony was to safeguard his family in Sicily.
I think Frankie cut himself shaving in the tub and bled to death looking for a Kleenex.
omertà. stress on the last syllable.v
