  • I found this great old machine in the barn of an antique car restorer who's estate was being sold. She came to me in really rough shape, having been sitting idle for many years in a non-climate controlled building. Seized bearings, frozen sliding surfaces, oxidized wheels and bare metal, and layers of flaking paint, not to mention inches of oil soaked sawdust and metal chips characterised the early days of this project! Dreading the huge undertaking, this saw sat in the corner of my shop for some time! I stared at her daily, I knew what great potential she had. I had to remind myself that a journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step! At last, I moved her to the top of my list and after over 100 hours of love, this machine is back to what I would consider factory condition! Enjoy the labor of love that was the rebuilding of this classic piece of American iron!

    I finished my restoration of a Delta Wood/Metal myself last year. I found metal shavings where there should have never been metal shavings. Awesome to see yet another beautiful bandsaw and base brought back to life!

    This video is very well done... both the subject matter and the presentation. I really like the injection of humor as well. Keep up the good work man. This video reminded me of another great channel called "this old tony".

    That slow speed gear box will make this saw very versatile. They had styling back then.

    Great restoration. I have 2 questions.
    1. How did you finish the knobs and thumbwheels? Just polish them, plate, or paint?
    2. Did you paint directly over the etching primer, or did you spay a layer of normal primer first?

    • @partsandresto
      @partsandresto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just polished the thumb screws and keep them oiled. You can paint right over the self etch primer

    Im looking to buy a model 28 200 In pretty good shape for 200.00. It needs a few parts that arent to expensive except for the rear belt cover. They dont have the actual cover and looking for one at a reasonable price has been fruitless. Is it worth buying it at that price to restore it ?

    • @partsandresto
      @partsandresto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah 200 is a good deal, that’s what I paid for mine and I was ecstatic. I’d call some used machinery dealers for a part like that. You might get lucky. Go for it brother, they’re great machines.

    I have a saw like yours from 1941, and it is in great shape, but the die cast shifter fork in the speed control gearbox has disintegrated. Any suggestions on how to obtain a replacement shifter fork?

  • @justinharris7771

    Do you have any information on the bearings you used?

  • @matthewpeterson3329

    Great content, great editing, I loves me some resto-porn! But... why the hammering of the tape and gasket material? For the tape, just firmly rub a piece of scrap round stock (or even a smooth hammer face) against it to accomplish the same scoring effect, without hammering against a casting. For gaskets, rub the edge of a pencil lead around it the same way as the round stock, then cut with snips/scissors, x-acto... whatever. I am just not comfy with beating on castings that are potentially irreplaceable.
    Otherwise, terrific work amigo!
